This paper reviews the popularity of the two leading smartphone brands, Apple and Samsung. By considering their Twitter profile, the comparisons have been made on the location, number of followers and language and a continental assessment has been presented. The data retrieval was made possible by developing an API that crawled data of the required Twitter accounts. The paper presents the results of this experimental review.","PeriodicalId":235292,"journal":{"name":"2013 Third World Congress on Information and Communication Technologies (WICT 2013)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130163554","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we introduce a new hybrid method for time series prediction. This hybrid method is a combination of k-nearest neighbors method and neural network model. The new method can take full advantage of the individual strengths of the two models to create a more effective approach for time series prediction. Experimental results show that our proposed method outperforms neural network model and k-nearest neighbors method used separately in time series prediction.","PeriodicalId":235292,"journal":{"name":"2013 Third World Congress on Information and Communication Technologies (WICT 2013)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129818676","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, in order to overcome these challenges, we propose to employ multi-hop transmission with single-input multiple-output (SIMO) links (i.e., receiver diversity) in FSO systems. In addition, M-ary pulse-position modulation (PPM) and symbol detect-and-forward relaying scheme will be used to further improve the system performance. We formulate the closed-form expressions for bit error rate (BER) of multi-hop M-ary PPM FSO systems with equal gain combining (EGC) and maximum ratio combining (MRC) diversity techniques taking into account the effects of background noise and thermal noise. Numerical results indicate that the combination of multi-hop transmission and receiver diversity is a great solution for reducing effects of strong atmospheric turbulence and pointing errors.","PeriodicalId":235292,"journal":{"name":"2013 Third World Congress on Information and Communication Technologies (WICT 2013)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127875051","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the other hand 80% of the female students join medical colleges and out of which only 10% to 15% join medical field as profession. Our proposal is to connect these rural areas with these non practicing lady doctors through any communication media whether it is internet, GSM, WiMAX, Satellite etc. For this sake virtual clinics will be established in the remote sites, patients will visit these clinics a nursing staff would be available to take all necessary information that will be sent by a smart phone to a registered doctor through a central system. Doctor in return would prescribe and prescription will be sent back by smart phone to virtual clinic via same central system. A prototype of the proposal is established and survey results are presented for viability of the proposal.","PeriodicalId":235292,"journal":{"name":"2013 Third World Congress on Information and Communication Technologies (WICT 2013)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116842484","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
