High morbidity and mortality rates are associated with this pathology due to poor economic management of complications. Case summary: A 68-year-old female patient underwent a routine Doppler ultrasound which revealed the obstruction of both the common and superficial right femoral arteries, as well as the right deep femoral artery. In this case, an iliofemoral bypass was performed using the right deep femoral artery as the outflow artery. The patient appeared to show worsening cyanosis despite increment of supplemental oxygenation. A drawn sample of the patient’s blood appeared chocolate brown in color, and disparity was noted between the patient’s oxygen saturation (SaO2) in his blood against the pulse oximetry (SpO2) reading. A diagnosis of toxic methemoglobinemia was established following elevated levels of methemoglobin discovered in his blood. The patient was started on methylene blue and instantaneously recovered without any complications. C-reactive protein (CRP) is an acute phase reactant with a pentameric structure. Under acidic or alkaline conditions, or when urea levels are high and/or calcium levels are low, the pentamer (pCRP) dissociates irreversibly into monomeric CRP (mCRP) and exposes new epitopes (neo-CRP). Importantly, anti-mCRP (but not anti-pCRP) antibodies have been described in patients with SLE, their prevalence varying from 4% to 78% in different cohorts. Numerous studies have investigated the relationship between autoantibodies directed against CRP (anti-CRP) and disease activity as well as their association with lupus nephritis (LN), frequently reporting discrepant findings. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate knowledge of malaria transmission and utilization of LLINs among OVC in Ondo metropolis, Nigeria. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Ondo City, Ondo State, Nigeria, between January and March 2018. The study was carried out among 66 OVC (age 5–19 years) using questionnaires. Information on socio-demography, LLIN utilization, knowledge and risks of malaria transmission among OVC was sought. Results: The use of LLINs (80.9%) among OVC was significantly higher than the use of insecticide spray (6.1%) and mosquito coils (12.1%) (p <0.0001). Knowledge about malaria transmission was relatively high, and the majority of children (60.6%) believed malaria is mostly transmitted during the dry season. Fewer children (21.2%) had a history of malaria in the last 3 months. Conclusions: The risk of malaria transmission was low among OVC. Aim of the study: The aim of the present paper was to evaluate the effect of bioresonance therapy in patients with recurrent major depressive disorder and with mild or moderate depressive episodes, respectively, without any other pharmacological, psychological, or other type of treatment. Methods: We selected 40 patients diagnosed with recurrent depressive disorder and bioresonance therapy as the only treatment. Assessment of the level of depression was achieved by measuring the biorhythm with the bioresonance device and by applying the Hamilton Depression Inventory questionnaire, with 17 items, at the beginning and the end of five weeks of treatment. Results: We identified a statistically significant decrease in depression levels as quantified by the HAM-D 17 scale, between the initial and final phase of therapy (p = 0.0001). This review aims to assess the significance of plaque vulnerability markers, more precisely the role of spotty calcifications in the development of major cardiac events, given that coronary calcification is a hallmark of atherosclerosis. Plaque vulnerability results from compound pathophysiological mechanisms that lead to structural and morphological changes in lesions. The aim of this review is to present the most recent techniques for the assessment of vulnerable coronary plaques such as cardiac computed tomography angiography (CCTA), optical coherence tomography, or virtual histology intravascular ultra-sound, based on literature data from the last 3 years. CCTA permits direct visualization of the intravascular lumen, together with characterization of the arterial wall. Recent studies maintain that low-attenuation plaques, spotty calcifications, positive vessel remodeling, and the napkin-ring sign are considered main markers of plaque vulnerability and instability. Emerging analytical techniques, such as machine learning or radiomics, will probably demonstrate useful as an auxiliary diagnostic tool for vulnerable plaque detection. The data from the two imaging techniques together provide useful information, especially in patients undergoing a PCI procedure for an acute coronary syndrome. Invasive and noninvasive imaging techniques are able to deliver a large amount of scientific data to assess vulnerable coronary atheromatous plaques. Positive remodeling is the compensatory dilatation of the plaque-containing section of the vessel wall. Plaques are most commonly characterized as vulnerable when possessing some of the following features: fibrous cap thickness <65 µm, large necrotic lipid core, high degrees of inflammatory infiltrates, positive remodeling, intraplaque hemorrhage, or neoangio-genesis. The presence of these plaque features is associated with high cardiovascular risk. In the initial stage of vasculopathy, due to positive remodeling, lumen reduction is not typical; it only develops in the advanced phase of the disease, due to which, based on a lumenogram, the vascular system may appear intact. Therefore, coronary angiography can easily miss the diagnosis or underestimate its extent, since it does not inform us of the composition of the arterial wall, because the contrast agent is just filling the vessel lumen. Coronary CT angiography may fill this diagnostic gap, since changes of the vessel wall can directly be visualized. The latest guidelines indicate revascularization of the non-culprit artery with a recommendation of class IIB. However, the management of non-culprit lesions in patients with acute coronary syndrome is still a matter of debate.
