This shift intends to rationalize distribution and operation of HEIs in the country. Data were taken from the last five years including 2014 enrolment, undergraduate and graduate degree program offering, thesis requirement, involvement in research and annual research cost expenditure. This is a descriptive study whereby the criteria set by the Commission on Higher Education’s Policy Standard to Enhance Quality Assurance in Philippine Higher Education through an Outcomes-based and Typology-based Quality Assurance (CHED Memorandum Order of 2012) on horizontal typology whether professional institution, college or university found that the horizontal typology of Bukidnon State University is university but with weaknesses in research funding, physical facilities such as laboratories, research linkages abroad, and invented technologies. In the three types of higher education institutions (HEIs) according th vertical classification of the autonomous HEI, deregulated HEI and regulated HEI, Bukidnon State University has yet to pass most of the criteria for the vertical typology and hence, it is still regulated by CHED.Keywords: rationalization, typology, graduate and undergraduate programs, professional programs, non-professional programs ","PeriodicalId":233251,"journal":{"name":"Asia Pacific Journal of Social and Behavioral Sciences","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130987477","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, it focused on the practices and beliefs of the IPs from birth to death, namely, on religion, ritual, marriage, giving birth and health and death. A comparison of the practices and beliefs across the seven tribes was done to generate themes. Interview and focus group discussion (FGD) were conducted to gather the data from among the key informants of the tribes and its members. Findings show that majority of the IPs of the seven tribes are Catholic in religion. All of them practice the conduct of a ritual which they call “pamuhat” in many activities of their life. The IPs choose their own partners for marriage; there are a few tribes who still practice the “duay” or having more than one wife. Majority of the mothers give birth at home with the assistance of a “mangunguyamo.” In curing certain illnesses, the IPs make use of herbal plants and trees. A “baylan” or a ritualist makes a prayer to heal sick members of the tribe. As to taking care of the dead, majority of the tribes do not practice embalming. The dreams and aspirations of the IPs are to be educated and to have a stable income; and to preserve their tribe.Keywords: indigenous peoples, ways of life, culture areas","PeriodicalId":233251,"journal":{"name":"Asia Pacific Journal of Social and Behavioral Sciences","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128584808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, eight dimensions were considered: demography, economic activities, environmental sanitation, literacy and education, social welfare, food shortage and food threshold of 14,528 households of Malaybalay City, Bukidnon. Given these dimensions, discriminant analysis was used to establish the characteristics of poor and non-poor households on the basis of multiple responses on all households. The classification results reveal 87.9% of households were classified correctly into poor and non-poor groups. Initial results further revealed that literacy and education and environmental sanitation were the strongest predictors of the group classification. Furthermore, on the basis of the classification rule developed in the study, of the identified poor households only 32.14% were recipients of the poverty reduction program of the city while 67.86% of the recipients were actually non-poor. The classification rule developed by this study did not match the classification rule of the city. The analysis of this paper is certainly not of sufficient complexity to allow a comprehensive poverty reduction strategy for Malaybalay City to be devised entirely from this result. Nevertheless, it does provide policy planners with objective measures on the distribution of goods and services for poverty alleviation that might be realized from sectoral poverty reduction strategy. Policy planners should view this result as a guide to allocate resources for poverty reduction in a more informed evidence-based manner.Keywords: differential characteristics, poverty, discriminant analysis","PeriodicalId":233251,"journal":{"name":"Asia Pacific Journal of Social and Behavioral Sciences","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130253396","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This necessitates the development of mechanisms that would examine the state of endangered languages across ethnolinguistic groups. This study aimed at (1) developing a multidimensional index of indigenous language loss in five domains: home, social interaction, workplace, academe, cultural and language loss; 2) determining the appropriate weight for each domain; and 3) validating the index through a pilot sample. Findings revealed that Binukid, the indigenous language of Malaybalay is partially lost, i.e., it is no longer used in two domains, in school, and social interaction. This decline is critically engendered by various factors such as speech community reduction, language competencies, the presence of other languages, frequency and motivation of Ll use. However, the indigenous language is supported and maintained in the home, cultural/religious and even in the workplace domains. Further, educational attainment, language used and age (especially among the school-going participants) are the variables that significantly correlate with language loss. With the development of the index, it is hoped that language planners and educators will be guided in assessing the state of heritage languages and subsequently in formulating sociolinguistic policies and programs.Keywords: indigenous language, language loss, multidimensional index of indigenous language loss","PeriodicalId":233251,"journal":{"name":"Asia Pacific Journal of Social and Behavioral Sciences","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122012076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study utilized focus group discussion involving one tribal community of each tribe mostly located proximate to the poblacion. Interview of key informants, usually the village chief (datu or bae and members of the council) was employed to generate data on the ethno-political life of the tribes. A survey questionnaire was also used to gather quantifiable data. The findings of the study showed that the main functions of the datu are to maintain the customary laws and social order in the community and promote good relationships with other tribal communities; and to arbitrate internal conflicts. As datu, he should possess wisdom, knowledge of traditional lore and mythology, eloquence, skill in euphemistic language, fairness in judging or arbitrating disputes, and possession of some wealth and property which he willingly shares with the whole community. The indigenous tribes have centralized form of political structure and headed by either a datu or a bae except for the Manobos whose village chief is a timuay or sultan. Internally-caused conflicts are readily resolved by the datu who is highly revered by his villagers while externally-caused conflicts are harder to resolve. Murder and wife-stealing used to be the principal cause of conflict among tribal members. This study aimed to determine the learning experiences of the thirty-nine (39) student interns of Bukidnon State University in programs of Business Administration, Accountancy and Hospitality during their international on-the-job training (OJT) in the United States of America. The study employed narrative analysis from the narrative reports of the student trainees of their personal learning experiences and the qualitative remarks of their immediate supervisors. Also, quantitative analysis through the weighted mean (µ) of the trainees’ performance was also employed to validate the qualitative data. As a result of the experiences, the student trainees have expressed positive regard for the internship experience since they have learned about other cultures and essential global corporate practices of their field. The American host companies likewise expressed through the performance appraisal and descriptive evaluation their appreciation of Filipino work ethics and their quality of work. The professional competencies of the student interns garnered a weighted mean of 3.74 which means exemplary and a weighted mean of 3.26 in their professional behavior which also means exemplary.
