We reviewed 213 observation records from 2000 to 2020, of which 194 correspond to 12 native species and 19 records are of introduced species. Of the total of records, 69% correspond to observations in the wild and 170 have been identified at species level, but only 118 are recognized as of research-value by iNaturalist, being the species with the best quality of information: Podocnemis unifilis, Chelonoidis denticulatus and Chelonoidis carbonarius. These three species and Phrynops geoffroanus are the most frequently observed. The work showed that the Bolivian Turtle Project is the most important at the national level for this taxonomic group and contributes to our knowledge of this group. It also reveals that there is a need to improve resources to improve observations and participation through the sharing of experiences and feedback with other resources on social media.","PeriodicalId":231023,"journal":{"name":"Neotropical Hydrobiology and Aquatic Conservation","volume":"2009 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132679423","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each finding presented here arises from the observations of three years of implementation, the exchange of experiences with other Amazonian users and the active participation of users from both watersheds. The use of this app has proven to be a challenge for rural populations involved in this initiative, mainly due to connectivity issues and the technological gap between rural monitors and urban users. However, this app provides a tool with great potential to complement, reinforce and expand their traditional monitoring systems and for scaling out to rural and urban populations in other regions of the Amazon.","PeriodicalId":231023,"journal":{"name":"Neotropical Hydrobiology and Aquatic Conservation","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124911272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main diagnostic characters of the species are the absence of an adipose fin and the presence of long caudal filaments in juveniles. We suggest to include this record in the fish species list from the Ecuadorian Amazon.","PeriodicalId":231023,"journal":{"name":"Neotropical Hydrobiology and Aquatic Conservation","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131606567","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study provides information on the use and knowledge of information and communication technologies by citizen scientists, as well as the identification of existing gaps and challenges. The results come from the application of surveys addressed to the local partners of the Network, and interviews with citizen scientists, with whom they carry out field work directly. Significant access and connectivity problems were found around the Amazon basin, which are related to the level of use and knowledge of the digital tools studied. In this framework, the challenges faced by both local partners and scientists in the development of their activities were also identified.","PeriodicalId":231023,"journal":{"name":"Neotropical Hydrobiology and Aquatic Conservation","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126469463","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its complex life cycle is interrupted by hydroelectric dams that were built on the middle Madeira River. Despite this, the species seems to continue spawning in the Beni River, a tributary of the Madeira River. We conducted a spatial analysis that allowed us to identify aditional spawning sites in the Madeira basin. Hydrological and topographic information available at watershed level was used and a similarity analysis was performed to geographically locate potential spawning areas. Seventy sub-basins were identified that meet the same characteristics as the documented spawning area in Beni and might constitute 22 potential spawning areas for dorado. All identified zones correspond to >4th order tributaries with a direct origin in the Andes. The precise identification of these zones allows the planning of monitoring efforts using a citizen science approach to confirm the reproduction of dorado in the Madeira basin and will help generate information that may serve to prevent species extinction in this basin.","PeriodicalId":231023,"journal":{"name":"Neotropical Hydrobiology and Aquatic Conservation","volume":"83 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127848699","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
