Uso y conocimiento de TIC por cientistas ciudadanos de la Red Ciencia Ciudadana para la Amazonía

Abstract

The Citizen Science Network for the Amazon (is currently made up of 29 organizations and nine individuals, located in seven countries (Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, the United States and France), who collaborate at different levels, generating knowledge about fish and aquatic ecosystems of the Amazon basin. This study provides information on the use and knowledge of information and communication technologies by citizen scientists, as well as the identification of existing gaps and challenges. The results come from the application of surveys addressed to the local partners of the Network, and interviews with citizen scientists, with whom they carry out field work directly. Significant access and connectivity problems were found around the Amazon basin, which are related to the level of use and knowledge of the digital tools studied. In this framework, the challenges faced by both local partners and scientists in the development of their activities were also identified.
