Recently, the advent of next-generation GPGPU replaced the traditional way of exploiting the graphics hardware. We have migrated real-time depth image-based rendering - for use in contemporary 3DTV technology - and noticed however that using both GPGPU paradigms leads to a higher performance than non-hybrid implementations. Stereo video enables 3D television, but as mobile services are subject to various limitations, including bandwidth, memory, and processing power, efficient compression is required. Three of the currently available MPEG coding standards are applicable for stereo video coding, namely H.264/AVC with and without stereo SEI message and H.264/MVC. These methods are evaluated with respect to the limitations of mobile services. The results clearly indicate that for a certain bitrate inter-view prediction as well as temporal prediction with hierarchical B pictures lead to a significantly increased subjective and objective quality. The multiview plus depth representation provides a lower bit rate when it is encoded than multi-view and higher resolution than a 2D-plus-depth sequence. Scalable video coding provides adaption to the conditions at the receiver. In this paper we propose a scheme that combines scalability in both the view and depth domain. The center view data is preserved, whereas the data of the side views are extracted in layers depending on distance to the camera. This allows a decrease in bit rate of 16–39 % for the colour part of a 3-view MV depending number of pixels in the first enhancement layer if one layer is extracted. The light rays pass through the lens array and form an optical image, part of which enters the observer's pupil and forms an image on the retina. It was assumed that the pupil has a certain diameter. The depth range of the 3D image (whose projected image on the retina is sampled by the lens array) was derived. That is, the depth range is restricted to the surrounding area of the lens array and depends on the pitch of the elemental lenses constituting the lens array. When the reconstructed 3D image is located within the depth range, its visual resolution is limited by the Nyquist frequency. The viewing position is quite restricted spatially in the case of 3D displays and also the (visual information for the left eye is taken by the right eye and vice versa) causes some severe problems in 3D image perception. This paper addresses several issues concerning 3D perception based on stereo-images. A new general multiview LCD stereo image composition method is proposed in this paper based on the optical plate LCD stereo display device. The proposed method mainly consists of three steps: sub-pixel judgment, sub-sampling of sub-pixel of each view, arrangement and composition of sub-pixels. The proposed method covers all possible cases of the optical plate LCD stereo display device. It has good universality and applicability. One of the key elements in 3DTV is the multi-view video coding, obtained from a set of synchronized cameras, capture the same scene from different view points. The video streams are synchronized and subsequently used to exploit the redundancy contained among video sources. A multi-view video consists of components for data acquisition, compression, transmission and display. This paper outlines the design and implementation of a multi-view video system for transmission over a wireless channel. Synchronized video sequences acquired from four separate cameras and coded with H.264/AVC. Video plus depth enables 3D television, but as mobile services are subject to various limitations, including bandwidth, memory, and processing power, efficient compression as well as low complexity view synthesis is required. Two MPEG coding standards are applicable for video plus depth coding, namely MPEG-C Part 3 and H.264 Auxiliary Picture Syntax. These methods are evaluated with respect to the limitations of mobile services and the achievable quality for rendering the second stereo view from compressed video plus depth. In conclusion video plus depth is an interesting alternative to conventional stereo video for mobile 3D services. Besides the basic purpose of the multi-luminance images, they can also be adopted to enhance the performance of multi-view stereo. By fusing the point-clouds from images under different luminance setups, a good model of the object can be achieved, with high robustness to image noise, shadows and high-lights. This is the basic idea of our novel multi-view stereo method. However if the stereoscopic image captured by the toed-in camera system with fish-eye lens is displayed on mobile device, it is uncomfortable to view because the horizontal parallax contain horizontal parallax distortion occurred by the wide field of view of the lenses. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a novel correction method of the horizontal parallax distortion, which is one of the keystone distortions. We have experimented to attest the proposed method. The captured stereoscopic image was corrected for the barrel distortion and the horizontal parallax distortion.
