The relevant historical materials kept in the archives of Omelan and Tetiana Antonovych are submitted for scientific circulation for the first time. The papers relate to the activities of the Association of Ukrainians in Washington, headed by O. Antonovych, and of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, headed by L. Dobriansky, as well as to their cooperation with the US Congress in support of the Ukrainian cause. The Ruthenians (Ukrainians) were already mentioned in the Senate document of the 61st US Congress in 1911. After the Second World War, the Ukrainian question came up on the agenda in connection with the formation of the United Nations. The center of Ukrainian political emigration has moved to the US. At that time L. Dobriansky kept continuous contacts with members of the Congress. In 1959 both Houses of the Congress passed the Captive Nations Week Resolution submitted by L. Dobryansky. On June 7, 1960 the House of Representatives decided to issue the brochure known as “Europe’s Freedom Fighter. Taras Shevchenko. 1814–1861 as an official House document”. On June 27, 1964 President D. Eisenhower inaugurated the monument to Taras Shevchenko in Washington, DC. The US Congress celebrated the anniversary of the proclamation of Ukraine’s independence on January 22, 1918 on annual ceremonial meetings with prayers for free Ukraine delivered by the Ukrainian priests. The US Senators and Representatives regularly included statements and letters from the Ukrainian organizations in the Congress Records.","PeriodicalId":229424,"journal":{"name":"Naukovì zapiski Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu \"Ostrozʹka akademìâ\". The process of resumption of the UFU operation is described. The initiator of this case was the last rector of the University of Prague and historian Vadym Shcherbakіvsky. Well-known scientists Dmytro Doroshenko, Petro Kurinny, Ivan Mirchuk, Panteleimon Kovaliv and others supported his initiative. It is noted that the Bavarian authorities and the American occupation were positive about the resumption of the university. The educational process in the higher education institution began in the summer semester of 1946. The structure of the Ukrainian Free University in Germany had two faculties: philosophy from the departments of philosophy and pedagogy, philology (Ukrainian, classical, and Slavic), history, geography, archeology, ethnology and art sciences, as well as law and socio-economic sciences from various departments. It is stated that the most active in the functioning of the university was the 1947–1948 academic year. As 492 students were educated and 95 teachers worked, a significant amount of educational literature was published. The university charter of 1948, which was the basic document regulating the functioning of the institution and giving it the right to broad autonomy and free publication, is also analyzed. The article also proves that in addition to educational work in the UFU, a publishing business was developed. Among the publications of the university was mainly educational literature, in particular textbooks for students (scripts), which were printed in cyclostyle. In order to inform students about the content of academic disciplines, the number of lectures, seminars, practical classes, lecture programs were published. To facilitate the study of educational material, university teachers issued lecture notes. Among such publications are lectures by M. Andrusiak “History of the Cossacks”, I. Mirchuk “Introduction to Philosophy”, V. Kubiyovych “Geography of Ukraine” and others. The UFU played an important role in preserving the national and cultural identity of the Ukrainian people and consolidating the Ukrainian scientific forces in exile.","PeriodicalId":229424,"journal":{"name":"Naukovì zapiski Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu \"Ostrozʹka akademìâ\". In a broad sense, the proposed study is concerned with the design and implementation of a wide range of educational tools in the educational process. In a narrow sense, it identifies the opportunities and prospects of using encyclopedic online resources as a didactic toolkit. These issues are covered on the example of the e-version of The Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine. The idea of using electronic encyclopedias in the educational process is not new. Researchers suggest that thematic encyclopedias are very important in the teaching of certain subjects. The introduction of encyclopedias into teaching is a contemporary trend initiated by the publishers of the world’s largest encyclopedias. For example, the popular Encyclopedia Britannica has recently become available in three online versions: for primary school students (Britannica Kids), middle school students (Britannica Students), and high school students (Britannica Scholars). This study demonstrates that the Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine a) can be a platform for providing encyclopedic knowledge in a subject; b) can be a didactic tool that increases the effectiveness of learning; c) can be used as a source of information for in-depth study of topics in various subjects. Thus, electronic encyclopedias (in particular the online-version of the Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine) provide significant opportunities for successful study of educational material, focusing on the most important aspects of educational topics and creating conditions for systematization and generalization of information, as well as actively involving students in self-study, arousing their interest in learning and generally increasing their motivation.","PeriodicalId":229424,"journal":{"name":"Naukovì zapiski Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu \"Ostrozʹka akademìâ\". In 1997 the Museum of history of the Ostroh Academy was founded. A great contribution to its development process was made by Ukrainians from abroad. They supported the museum, sent interesting exhibits, and joined in museum projects. Nowadays the museum has valuable art collections, among which sculptures of the well-known Ukrainian artist Mirtala Pylypenko. Mirtala Pylypenko was born in Ukraine. During World War II she emigrated, and since 1947 she has been living and working in the USA. She graduated from the Boston Museum’s Art School and Tufts University in Boston. Mirtala’s sculptures are not just artworks, but a profound philosophical and original vision of the world. She showed her talent not only in sculpture and art photography, but also in poetry – her poetic collections “Verses”, “Rainbow Bridge”, “Road to Oneself” have been published in various languages. Mirtala received acclaim in the US and Europe in the 1970s – 1980s. Since the early 1990s her works have been known in Ukraine, where the artist held a series of solo exhibits and presentations. Mirtala presented one collection of her works to the National University of Ostroh Academy. Now it is one of the most valuable collections in the university museum. As a sculptor with a long exhibiting career, Mirtala has combined images of her sculptures with her poems, creating a single whole, which is greater than its parts. Mirtala’s collection of sculptures is monumental, philosophic and gracious. However, at the same time, it is sunny and brings back the life-asserting symbols of eternal space and time. The artist has spent most of her life across the ocean (in the USA), but her soul remains tied to Ukraine. Mirtala Pylypenko is an extraordinary figure in the Ukrainian art. And now, many generations of university students have an opportunity to get acquainted with her unique talent. It is important that sooner or later, Ukraine reveals its artists. Therefore, the museum tries to return and represent the Ukrainian diaspora art and history in museum collections in order to create a single Ukrainian cultural space.","PeriodicalId":229424,"journal":{"name":"Naukovì zapiski Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu \"Ostrozʹka akademìâ\". It gives an opportunity to explore the history and evolution of creative interpretations of Vasyl Stefanyk’s cultural heritage. The article examines the “Stefanykiana” of the Ukrainians abroad, which puts the writer’s legacy in the global context. The works of I. Kostetsky, O. Chernenko, and M. Stekh present V. Stefanyk’s work for the first time against the background of processes that took place in European cultural and art life at the turn of the century, during the prime era of modernism. Stefanyk’s work was discovered by the Poles W. Moraczewski and S. Przybyszewski, who introduced him to their artistic environment and began to translate, print and promote his works. The chief theorist of modernism S. Przybyszewski considered him as a genius and put V. Stefanyk’s name next to the most prominent writers of Europe. The Polish critic H. Hescheles considered his work as more interesting than the work of the Nobel Laureate W. Reymont. However, the reception of Stefanyk’s works by the Ukrainian Galician community was adverse. There were objective and subjective processes of Stefanyk’s rejection from his native Ukrainian environment with its “folk” and “enlightenment” canon (i.e. the writer was to serve the people, write for the people, as well as awaken and develop the people). Stefanyk was an expressionist and a world-class writer who managed to get to the heart of things and phenomena, and portray life and people in a style inherent in European and world writers. The conflict with Ukrainian environment forced him to stop writing. He did not write for 15 years. As a result, the opportunity to bring his own people and literature to the international cultural space and to establish them in world culture was lost. I. Kostetsky believes that the fact that Stefanyk was unable to actualize himself under the pressure of his native Galician environment is one of the most burdensome points of the Ukrainian collective guilt.","PeriodicalId":229424,"journal":{"name":"Naukovì zapiski Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu \"Ostrozʹka akademìâ\". The purpose of this article is to study the development of Ukrainian literature in Argentina. One of the tasks aimed at achieving this goal is the introduction of the names of emigrant writers into scientific circulation. The arrival of a large number of active and educated people in Argentina in the interwar period (including writers O. Drahomanova, P. Buk, O. Devlad, etc.) led to the emergence of new forms of public life. A large number of literary and art schools, libraries, and reading rooms appeared. An important factor in the preservation of ethnic identity and the development of cultural life was the formation of the Ukrainian Cultural Society “Prosvita” in 1924. The biggest wave of emigration took place during the postwar period. Writers such as L. Holotsvan, Y. Prylutska-Farni, K. Buldyn, etc. arrived here. At this time Argentina became a real cultural center of Ukrainians. The Society of Artists, Writers and Scholars was formed, uniting almost all cultural figures. In the biography and works of many writers of this period Argentina appears as an “intermediate” point (for example, I. Kachurovsky, O. Kerch, V. Kulish, Yu. Krokhmalyuk-Tys, etc.). Writers from all over the world have long been united by the magazine “Porogy”. Unfortunately, with the death of writers in Argentina (as in the rest of the world), literary life almost subsided. Among the writers of the fourth wave of emigration can be identified I. Voloshchuk. Translation activity played a significant role. From the beginning of the resettlement, Ukrainian emigrants distributed works of T. Shevchenko, I. Franko, M. Shashkevych, and L. Ukrainka. Many of the writers translated Ukrainian works into Spanish and vice versa. Thus, literary life in Argentina developed very actively in the 20th century. It was most striking in the postwar period, when a large number of cultural figures emigrated here. The research started in this article is promising for the future, as further detailed study of the features of works of art of Ukrainian-speaking writers in Argentina is required.","PeriodicalId":229424,"journal":{"name":"Naukovì zapiski Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu \"Ostrozʹka akademìâ\". Additionally, it clarifies the main aspects of the relationship between Adventist communities and the Soviet authorities. It shows that there were 10 registered communities and 8 unregistered groups in the study period in Transcarpathia. This research includes a wide range of sources from the state and church archives. Moreover, it contains a survey of believers of this denomination. Critical analysis of these sources in combination with modern research on the topic made it possible to reveal new aspects of the past of the Adventist community in Transcarpathia, to clarify statistics, to personalize the composition of church ministers as well as some of its members. With Khrushchev’s coming to power, the Adventist community in the region, like all denominations in the USSR, felt a significant deterioration in the religious situation. The negative attitude of some part of society and the authorities to such a policy influenced the suspension of its active phase and contributed to a certain facilitation and normalization of religious life, which was observed in the mid-1950s. Later Adventist communities experienced crises related to the liquidation of the All-Union Seventh-day Adventist Spiritual Center and the internal division of the community due to government interference in its activity. In the development of the Adventist community in Transcarpathia, it was possible to highlight some of its features, which allowed to save the community from significant power influences and destruction. These include the deep historical religiosity of the local population, their cultural and historical tradition as well as mentality. The combination of the above-mentioned factors forced the authorities to act quite cautiously in the area of religious restrictions. During that period the Transcarpathian Adventist community managed to overcome the negative occurrences and slowly develop, maintaining internal and doctrinal unity in balancing relations with the state.","PeriodicalId":229424,"journal":{"name":"Naukovì zapiski Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu \"Ostrozʹka akademìâ\".
