The scientist also characterized historiography of narrative’s research, including the issues of authorship, chronicler’s biography features, Chronicle’s source base and its impact on Ukrainian chronicle writing, handwritten translations of different editions to Russian and Ukrainian made in the late XVI th – XVIII th centuries. M. P. Kovalkyi’s publications were used by his students as a basis for more detailed studies on A. Guagnini’s Chronicle (O. O. Dyachok) and its 1611 edition’s commented translation to Ukrainian (Yu. A. Mycyk). A. Guagnini’s Chronicle was not attracting interest of Polish humanitarian scientists for a long time. Researchers were only addressing the issue of 1578 edition’s authorship from time to time. This issue has been ardently argued about since «Sarmatiae Europeae decriptio» was first introduced. However, the situation has remarkably changed over the last decade. Michał Kuran considers the Polish «Kronika Sarmacyey Europskiey» (1611) a collection of historical and geographical data, aimed at popularizing Sarmatian myth. The researcher argues, that it was Marcin Paszkowski who translated the text from Latin to Polish and supplemented it with new fragments. In Wanda Decyk-Zięba’s opinion, it was M. Paszkowski who introduced words from East European languages to the Polish text. Zbysław Wojtkowiak concluded that «Sarmatiae Europeae decriptio» was finished between May, 28 and June, 21 1574, and was dedicated to electing Henri de Valois as a Polish monarch. He considers the chronicle is a common work of Maciej Stryjkowski and Alessandro Guagnini, and perhaps somebody else. Wojciech Paszyński was studying Guagnini’s Chronicle in the context of Sarmatian theory.","PeriodicalId":229424,"journal":{"name":"Naukovì zapiski Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu \"Ostrozʹka akademìâ\". RUS` IN THE INTERNATIONAL LIFE OF EUROPE IN VIII-X CENTURIES 罗斯在八至十世纪欧洲国际生活中的地位

Vikings have long been known East Europe, and the first contacts began far away before the famous «Іnvitation of the Varangians» in the «Povist mynulykh lit». Old Ladoga became the center of a conglomerate of the surrounding Ugro-Finnish-Varyag-Slavic tribes, and is known in Arabic sources as «Slavia». Versions of Askold’s origin are also considered and the hypothesis that he probably belonged to the Scylding dynasty is supported. Askold pursued a very active foreign policy, in particular, he signed an agreement with the Byzantine Empire and was baptized. It is likely that he commissioned his own chronicle, the corrected version of which was included in the oldest Chronicle reports. As for Dyrr, the most likely assumption today is that Dyrr lived before Askold, and he was the first to try to get rid of dependence on the Khazars Khaganate, and information from the «Povist mynulykh lit» is an insert of chroniclers. The article analyzes information from the «Annales Bertiniani», which report on the famous embassy to the Frankish Emperor Louis the Pious from the Kagan of the Rus`. This message caused a heated discussion about the localization of the Rus` Khaganate. The assumption of Omelyan Pritsak, who claimed that the Rus` Khaganate was located not far from the Khazar Khaganate, and Kyiv was founded by the Khazars, does not have sufficient scientific arguments in its favor today. The localization of the Rus` Khaganate in the North-East Rus` is also unconvincing, because in the IX century the rulers of Aldeigyuborg did not make campaigns to the Byzantine Empire, and did not use the title of Khagan, but called themselves konungs. Based on a various sources, in particular using the Geographus Bavarus and archaeological research, the version of localization of the Rus` Khaganate in the Dnipro region with the center in Kyiv was supported.","PeriodicalId":229424,"journal":{"name":"Naukovì zapiski Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu \"Ostrozʹka akademìâ\". It is shown that during the process of destalinization the Soviet government decided to release from exile a number of groups of the special settlers. They paved the way for the return to Western Ukraine of former OUN members and UPA fighters. By May 1, 1957, almost 66,000 people had arrived there and began to influence the socio-political situation in the region. The party leadership of the republic requested the CPSU Central Committee to ban the transfer of “former leaders and active members of the Ukrainian nationalist underground” to the region. Using archival materials, which have been introduced into science for the first time, the author found out that the newcomers found themselves in extremely difficult conditions. Their homes and property had been confiscated. Due to the purposeful policy of the Party and Soviet authorities and the efforts of local activists, they were surrounded by an atmosphere of harassment, hatred, hostility and rejection. There were also dramatic, contradictory, taunting pages of previous activities of some of them towards their fellow countrymen. This led many to move to eastern provinces on their own, with resettlement, organised recruitment or to return to the places of prior exile.","PeriodicalId":229424,"journal":{"name":"Naukovì zapiski Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu \"Ostrozʹka akademìâ\". It is shown that the party confrontation, which continued within the Ukrainian political emigration and in the postwar period, complicated the coverage of the significant efforts of the State Center of the UPR led by S. Petliura to preserve the interned Army of the UPR, its comprehensive preparation for further struggle for state independence. However, historians of the postwar period have prepared a number of works in which these activities, including and its aspects, such as military-professional and cultural-educational work, were covered much more deeply and comprehensively than in the interwar period. It is noted that not all works covered the research problem to the same extent. In some of them, mostly in the memoirs of former participants of those events, as a rule, only certain aspects of it were briefly considered, and generalized conclusions were drawn. These are the publications of V. Sikevych, M. Staroviit, M. Levitsky, Y. Artyushenko, L. Kozar, and others. authors. This also applies to some works of a monographic nature devoted to the events of the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917 – 1921 (I. Nagaevsky, L. Shankovsky, O. Udovychenko). The materials published in them on the problem are fragmentary, in fact, only outlining the directions of its further study. At the same time, the authors of some monographs (P. Fedenko), memoirs (P. Bilon, O. Semmo) departed from a simple and concise statement of well-known facts on the researched problem, presented a wide range of military-professional and cultural-educational work in camps for interned Ukrainian soldiers. It is emphasized that the lack of access to materials stored in Soviet archives, the use of former Taborites as sources of memories led to the appearance in the works of Ukrainian foreign historians of the postwar period of certain factual errors, inaccuracies, subjective assessments, which to some extent reduced their level.","PeriodicalId":229424,"journal":{"name":"Naukovì zapiski Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu \"Ostrozʹka akademìâ\". They interested in various vectors of Lipin studies. It should be noted that V. Lypynskyi became sufficiently studied in recent years as the head of the Ukrainian Embassy in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Scientists, on the work of which drawn attention in the relevant topic: Igor Ducks, Igor Girich, Tatyana Ostashko, Irina Interim and others. This article is aimed at summing a certain result in the long run of scientists. The article is trying to collect, analyze, explore and outline certain results in the historiographic study of the place of V. Lypynskyi in the international politics of the Ukrainian state. The main submers are considered, which researchers studied in the context of the activities of V. Lypynskyi as ambassador during their work from 1918 to 1919. The topics of scientific research were especially studied: Embassy staff (appointment, the appointment of those who are responsible for certain sectors and criticism of personnel by opponents, both from among the government and the social democratic forces); The struggle for territorial encroachments and at the same time ratification of Beresia Agreement (peace treaty between the Ukrainian People’s Republic on the one hand and German, Austria-Hungarian, Ottoman Empires and the Bulgarian kingdom of the other side). The strong Polish diaspora prevented the joining of the Kholm region and part of the smashes in the Ukrainian state. Also, the activity that puts themselves the goal of helping the prisoners of war in concentration camps and citizens of Ukraine, which were in Austria – Hungary); Lypynskyi’s care from the post of Representative of Ukraine in Vienna (comes to power in Kiev in November 1918, the directory of UNR and the inability to find a common language with new government structures). Since the Lublin Union, there are very few such sources. Besides, they did not cover a significant number of estates and settlements. A higher level of regularity of taxation and greater control resulted in better preservation of the so-called taxation registers. For Volyn, this can only be said about the two-decade period after the Lublin Union. The chronological representativeness of this group of sources cannot be considered satisfactory. This applies to the least used and practically not represented by researchers and archaeographers in circulation in the entirety of the primary registers. Much taxes registers touches latifundia of Volyn. The complex of such sources requires the implementation of their source characteristics as a separate variety (including specific historical issues) and in comparison with the already used tax documentation, mostly generalized by administrative-territorial units. State fiscal documentation consisted of several levels of sources. The first consideration of state revenue cases for the incorporated territories was already included in the resolution of the Lublin Sejm in 1569, where it occupied almost the largest volume compared to other issues and was also issued as a separate Taxation Universal. Thus, for the first time, the Ukrainian lands included into Poland received a well-developed basis for taxation. When collecting a tax, the owners or their administration created special lists – primary tax registers. All surviving primary tax registers date back to the first decade after the Lublin Union. Primary tax registers for 1576 – 1577 survived only for a few Volyn estates. Much of them touches possessions of prince V.-K. Ostroz’ryy. These are Dubno, Ostroh, Starokostyantyniv and others. One of them is register of Stepan volost 1576. The primary tax documentation contains a personal record of the population with an indication of the tax grounds for each person. In some cases (for households) they contain evidence of the gender structure and professional classes of the population. Thus, for demographic research, such sources have a number of advantages. The text of the Stepan primary reister is presented in the appendix.","PeriodicalId":229424,"journal":{"name":"Naukovì zapiski Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu \"Ostrozʹka akademìâ\". Maсkiw, which concerned the figure of I. Mazepa. The personal contribution of the historian to the study of political circumstances and public sentiments in which the documents described by scientists were created, the genesis and texts of research sources, as well as their influence on memoirists of that era are determined. Attention is drawn to the refutation by scientists of falsified data and erroneous assumptions of other researchers about the figure of the hetman. The types and kinds of sources used by T. Maсkiw in his research are described. The differences in the factual content of texts of sources of different European countries, the dependence of these texts on the place of creation of the source and its author are studied, the structure, genesis and differences of the main works of the historian on this subject are analyzed. Emphasis is placed on new information on the history of Ukraine in the time of I. Mazepa, which T. Maсkiw found in European archives. The archeographic aspect of the historian’s activity is also reflected in the article. An important contribution of the author can be considered his reflections on the objectivity / subjectivity of the European press, which covered the events of Europe and Ukraine in the era of hetman I. Mazepa, its influence on European politicians, as well as the dependence of the press on the state. The main attention in the research is paid to the ukrainian-language monograph «Hetman Ivan Mazepa in the that time western European sources 1687-1709». An analysis of the change in assessments of political events in Ukraine by the foreign press after the transition of the hetman to the side of the Swedish king, a description of the reasons for this transition, the dependence of foreign assessments of the events of 1708 on the position of the Russian Empire, causes and consequences for I. The revolution of dignity and subsequent Russian armed aggression led to the intensification of the Ukrainian autocephalous movement. The President, the Parliament, the bishops of the UOC-KP, the UAOC, and about ten bishops of the UOC-MP appealed to the Ecumenical Patriarch to grant autocephaly to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. On October 9-11, 2018, the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate confirmed the resolution to start the procedure of granting autocephaly to the Orthodox Church in Ukraine, considered appeals and carried out canonical rehabilitation of UOC-KP and UAOC leaders Filaret Denysenko and Makariy Maletych, and restored the Patriarch’s stauropegia as the representation to the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Kyiv and repealed the act of 1686. On 15 December, before the unification council started, the UOC-KP and the UAOC held separate meetings during which they both dissolved themselves, which delayed the beginning of the unification council. Every bishop was to bring two people to vote. In the second round, laity and priests did not vote, only bishops. Metropolitan Mykhaiil Zinkevych was forced to withdraw his candidacy during the council before the final vote. In the first round, the score of the three candidates was: Mykhail Zinkevych: 38; Symeon Shostatskyi: 56; Epiphanius Dumenko: 81. In the secomd round, the votes of bishops were as follows: Symeon: 28; Epiphanius: 36. At the Unification Council on December 15, 2018, the establishment of the OCU was announced, its charter was approved and Metropolitan Epiphanius was elected as the Primate. On January 6, 2019, a Tomos on the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church was granted to him in Constantinople.","PeriodicalId":229424,"journal":{"name":"Naukovì zapiski Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu \"Ostrozʹka akademìâ\". In the available comparisons, their authors rather briefly dwell on the general features of the policy of states with different regimes of government on the organization of women’s service in 1939-1945. However, they do not study in more detail the common and different in experiences of representatives of different states in the service of one or another branch of the military. The article examines the peculiarities of the service and life of Soviet and British women who served in signal corps during World War II. The countries were chosen not by chance, because they represent democracy and totalitarianism, respectively, and studying the experiences of women serving in their armies can deepen our knowledge of these regimes. The author concludes that the women of the USSR and Great Britain in the signal corps during World War II held positions with the same or similar responsibilities, but the everyday life of Soviet women at the front was mostly much stricter, due to the high intensity fighting. At the same time, it should not be forgotten that, despite the fact that the enemy was never able to invade Great Britain by land, its territories were subjected to massive air attacks, which posed a constant danger to the country’s inhabitants, both civilian and military. Therefore, the service of British women in the signal corps in the homeland was also associated with significant risk. Among other things, British female signals officers took part in the top-secret and extremely important for Allied troops operation “Enigma”, which resulted in the decryption of the code of the famous cipher machine of Nazi Germany. According to various estimates, the success of the operation significantly precipitated the end of World War II.","PeriodicalId":229424,"journal":{"name":"Naukovì zapiski Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu \"Ostrozʹka akademìâ\". The main measures and methods taken by the Soviet authorities to restore the educational material base of pedagogical colleges are identified. The purpose of the study is to characterize the material base and trace the process of resumption of pedagogical colleges on the basis of the analysis of archival documents and verification of the works of Ukrainian researchers. Identify the positive and negative aspects of the introduction of Soviet methodology in the educational process. In the post war period, the problem of training teachers, especially primary school, remained acute. Among the Ukrainian population there was a large percentage of illiterate and illiterate people. There was a need to train primary school teachers. The Soviet government, along with measures to improve the functioning of pedagogical institutions, gave priority to controlling the level of ideological consciousness of future primary school teachers. Consequently, the educational policy of the state has acquired a pronounced ideological character. Thus, in the difficult conditions of the post war period, the Soviet government created an extensive network of secondary pedagogical institutions designed to provide the western Ukrainian region with teaching staff.
