The hypothesis which guided this study was the following: there is a significant relationship between teaching/learning activities related to moral education and pupils’ behaviour. Through a survey design where 50 teachers randomly selected from 11 schools in Santa sub-division, the findings revealed that the correlation between teaching/learning activities and pupils’ behaviour was significant. The study revealed also that if most pupils showed a disruptive behaviour, it was because most teachers they lacked skills in organizing content material and did not involve children in activities that permitted them to develop life skills.","PeriodicalId":228883,"journal":{"name":"EPH - International Journal of Educational Research","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130456279","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Over the years, most of the engineering programmes such as Automobile, Building and Construction, Carpentry and Joinery, Mechanical, Electrical, Welding and others are termed as male dominated programmes, which should not also be the case. Hardly does one see girls enrolling in these programmes. Most of the time one can find one or two girls in such a class, and in most cases, these girls perform excellently, which shows that when encouraged, more girls would like to offer engineering programmes. The purpose of this paper was to find out what is preventing girls from enrolling in the engineering programmes and what can be done to encourage them to enroll in such programmes. 100 questionnaires were distributed to girls not enrolled in engineering programmes. Also, ten girls in the engineering programmes were interviewed as well as visits to the classrooms to get first-hand information on girls’ performance. The study revealed that, cultural and public perception about the programme for girls is preventing most girls in enrolling in the engineering programmes. It is recommended that there should be continuous sensitization for girls, about TVET programmes. There should also be a quota system in place to cater for girls’ intake into engineering programme as affirmative action.","PeriodicalId":228883,"journal":{"name":"EPH - International Journal of Educational Research","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131335084","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many of the secondary schools have had threats to safety from within originating from fires, insect bites, loose and sharp objects, poorly constructed buildings inadequate and poorly ventilated rooms all these among others makes the learner, the teacher and the workers insecure while in school. The study investigated influence of the principal’s attitude on safety management in the public schools in Nzaui sub-County, Makueni County Kenya. Mixed methods were used consequently applying the concurrent triangulation strategy. Purposive sampling was used to pick principals from the selected schools considering schools which had reported cases of insecurity. Descriptive statistics were used to nalyse quantitative data and inferentially using ANOVA Test Analysis. (SPSS 23) and expressed in tabulation form. It was evident from the findings that insecurity was on the rise in many secondary schools in Nzaui Sub-county. It further revealed that principals’ attitude has not been positive in security management in public secondary schools. The study recommends that the principals ought to develop positive attitude towards security management since it is first step towards mitigating the security challenges. In a multicultural society, as that of the European Union, as well as in global(open) educational systems, students have different backgrounds, levels of motivation, attitudes about learning, as wellas preferences and approaches to studying. Therefore, there is a need for educators to identify the factors that supportthe shift from lecture-based teaching to active learning strategies with such variable class audiences. Oneof the mostcritical factors is the identification of the students’ learning styles.This paper focuses on research models of learning styles and comments on the necessity, importance, and some positiveand negative elements of various related approaches.In particular we assess the profile of a class of ChemicalEngineering students who formed our research case study, through a pilot application of one of the approaches. This paper sought to examine the effects of teacher’s perception of school environment on academic performance of pupils with special needs in the inclusive classes. The paper adopted a descriptive survey design. The study used simple random to select to select the study respondents. Interview schedule and questionnaires were used for data collection. Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient of 0.716 and 0.784 was obtained for the teachers and pupils questionnaires respectively. Data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics with aid of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences. Pearson’s correlation coefficient was used to establish the relationship between teacher’s perception of school environment and academic performance of pupils with special needs in inclusive classes. The findings showed that school environment had very significant effect on the academic performance of pupils with special needs in inclusive classes. The study concluded that teachers’ perception of school environment significantly influenced academic performance of learners with special needs in inclusive primary schools.
