The flat lens is used to transform a cylindrical wavefront generated by the horn to a planar wavefront which provides a uniform phase distribution in the output aperture. Unlike the conventional convex lens whose design is based on Geometrical Optics (GO), the flat lens is designed based on the Field Transformation (FT) method. By optimizing the permittivity of the center layer and two matching layers, the phase compensation for wavefront transformation is achieved, together with good impedance match over a wide band. A Continuous Transverse Stub (CTS) antenna with a low profile is designed by using the proposed LSG.","PeriodicalId":228233,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126981135","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The frequency tunability is achieved by loading the slot-ring antenna with varactors. By properly designing the feeding network and biasing circuits, the slot-ring antenna is able to cover 2-4 GHz. A prototype antenna was fabricated and measured. The measured return loss is better than 9 dB from 2.66 to 4.09 GHz. The antenna gain and radiation pattern are very close to simulation results. This tunable slot-ring antenna can be extended for a reconfigurable antenna array to cover both L band and S band by strategically placing switches and varactors inside the slots of the antenna. This novel antenna array is able to change its frequency, polarization and radiation pattern.","PeriodicalId":228233,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122214842","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This antenna exhibits small dimensions of 11.2×5.1×1.575 mm3 (0.09×0.04×0.01 λ03) which is considered to be one of the smallest ever reported footprints at this operating frequency. It has a simulated realized gain of 1.17 dBi along with an estimated efficiency of 87.4%. Due to the fact that ESAs are not self-resonant by nature, an impedance matching network has to be utilized to tune the antenna to resonate at the desired operating frequency. Three different matching approaches are studied in this paper. Finally, the antenna is modelled using the infinitesimal dipole model.","PeriodicalId":228233,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"135 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121145811","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the commercialization causes a serious shortage of frequency resources in the RF spectrum. This paper suggests a stepped frequency UWB sensor which can coexist with other narrowband radio systems. The signal-processing algorithm is also presented to improve the signal degradation due to the spectrum hole. We fabricated the sensor system in order to investigate the usefulness and conducted the measurement for several scenarios.","PeriodicalId":228233,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"169 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124708127","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The cylinder is modeled as muscle, skin, fat, and perfect electric conductor respectively. The cylinder is illuminated by a plane wave incident from different angles and with both transverse electric and transverse magnetic polarization. The results show that the material assumption when modeling the human body as a homogeneous material is very important. Furthermore, it is shown that one assumption might lead to higher fields for a specific polarization, angle of incidence and frequency, but that does not translate to similar relative performance at another polarization, angle of incidence, and frequency.","PeriodicalId":228233,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128013683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Indeed, it has been noticed that in the single parallel line feeding system with a single pick-up, the received power is subject to severe fluctuations due to the standing wave in the magnetic field all along the feeding line. Therefore, by employing multiple shifted parallel line feeders with multiple pick-ups, the proposed method benefits from a pattern diversity to overcome the standing wave issue and also gains from a multiplexing effect resulting in more stable and significantly improved output power. Supported by theoretical analysis, experiments on a system with three feeders and three pick-ups operating at the frequency of 13.56MHz demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":228233,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116744970","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
