The proposed antenna consists of a cylindrical conducting monopole antenna, saline-water, and a biocompatible shell. The antenna has a wide -10 dB reflection coefficient bandwidth from 1.89 GHz to 4.51 GHz (a fractional bandwidth of 106.9%) with a compact volume (approximately 1.53 cm3). To evaluate the effects on the antenna performance, electrical components (battery, camera, and transceiver) are modeled as a PEC cylinder inside the capsule. In addition, the specific absorption rate (SAR) performance of the proposed antenna is also analyzed by SEMCAD.","PeriodicalId":228233,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124676102","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The effects of reflection and diffraction on the neighboring objects can be dramatically reduced by averaging, over a set of distances, a normalized transfer function of the system consisting of the antenna under test and the measuring antenna. The method was successfully tested on dipole type, ultra-wide band antennas. This paper, presents further results on measuring narrow band, monopole antennas. It comes out that averaging does not remove the effect of the diffraction on scatterers close to the radiating element, such as the edges of the antenna ground plane; conversely, it reasonably reduces the effects of scatterers placed at several wavelengths away from the antenna under test.","PeriodicalId":228233,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129240016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Limited form factor and operation at multiple frequencies of these devices require novel solutions of efficient embedded antennas. It has increased the demand of microstrip patch antennas due to their inherent properties of being low profile, simple design, small size and ease of fabrication and integration. Miniaturisation requirements have seen rise of multiband patch antennas. This paper presents the design and analysis of a novel multiband microstrip patch antenna. The antenna consists of a rectangular slot with two E-shaped stubs on both of its sides. An inverted T-shaped stub is present on the upper side of the slot while an I-shaped stub is there on the bottom side. A T-shaped feeding line feeds the antenna. The slot, stubs and feed collectively produce five frequency bands centred at 1.5 GHz, 2.2 GHz, 3.1 GHz, 4.2 GHz and 5.3 GHz for LTE/4G/5G, WiBro/WiMax, Satcomm and WLAN applications. The antenna offers small size, good impedance bandwidth and high gain at all operating frequencies.","PeriodicalId":228233,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127064455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Paraffin is a low loss dielectric that undergoes reversible volumetric mechanical phase change. These unique properties of the paraffin can be employed to develop reconfigurable antenna systems and RF components at millimeter wave (mmW) and terahertz (THz) bands. In order to characterize the dielectric properties of the paraffin, terahertz time domain spectroscopy is used. Complex dielectric permittivity is modeled using Havriliak-Negami relaxation and measured data are fitted using three-layer propagation model. Measured loss tangent for various paraffin films is in the range of 0.3 × 10-3-7.7 × 10-3 and the relative permittivity is found to be 2.26.","PeriodicalId":228233,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129305372","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed technique is based on the use of Characteristic Basis Functions (CBFs) that are extracted from the solutions for the current distributions generated by placing the user-specified antenna elements, e.g., a monopole or a PIFA at \"allowable\" locations on the antenna platform. Some examples illustrating the application of the CBF approach to antenna pattern synthesis in a systematic manner are presented in the paper and a comparison of the present technique with that based on the use of the Characteristic mode approach is included.","PeriodicalId":228233,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123908083","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The antenna is a cavity-backed slot antenna (CBSA) made of conductive textiles. The substrate of the feed line is also a textile sheet rather than conventional material in order to make the antenna more flexible. Moreover, the feed line is fixed by sewing directly to the CBSA to prevent a gap between the feed line and the antenna. The antenna performances in 2.4-GHz band have been measured depending on the radius of curvature of the antenna and compared with those fixing the feed line by adhesive tape in the previous study. The results revealed that the -10 dB bandwidth in the sewing case is wider than that by the previous case. Thus, we suggest that the antenna characteristics can be improved by the reduction of unnecessary deformation of the feed line and the antenna.","PeriodicalId":228233,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121445524","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This can be used for extracting geometric information related to the surrounding environment. In particular, Time Domain P410 UWB radios are used in our experiments, for channel sounding in bi-static and monostatic modes. In this paper, UWB radio pulses are used to determine the channel impulse response (CIR) in indoor environment. Based on the measured CIR, a statistical model is developed that is used in detection and range estimation of moving objects in indoor line-of-sight environment. The CIR measurements at different distances are used to study and model various channel characteristics in time and frequency domain. Our results show that UWB radar is capable of accurately detecting trajectory and speed of moving objects in indoor environments with minimum post-processing.","PeriodicalId":228233,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129371387","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
