The experiences of nurses in handling disaster at various stages need to be explored. The aim of the study is to get description of nurses’ experiences in HDP at PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul Hospital. This study was a qualitative study with a phenomenological approach. Five nurses who have been working for minimum five years and are involved in a disaster team were recruited. A semi-structured interview between 30 and 45 minutes was conducted. There were three emergent themes; those are the roles of nurses in preparedness and mitigation phase, the roles of nurses in disaster/emergency response phase and the roles of nurses in the development of collaborative networks in disaster management. The roles of nurses in running HDP programs were found to be good in terms of preparedness, mitigation, disaster response phases and collaborative network development. Strengthening the capacity of nurses must be continuously encouraged in running HDP programs. Besides that, psychological aspects are very important that must be prepared by nurses in dealing with earthquake disasters, so as to prevent the psychological impact on both themselves and victims. To explore the experience of nurse preparedness in the management of psychological aspects after the earthquake disaster and explore the factors that influence nurse preparedness in the management of psychological aspects after the earthquake. This type of research is a qualitative research with a descriptive explorative approach. Data is collected by in-depth interview methods and observation techniques then analyzed based on emerging themes. The number of samples was 5 participants. The results of this study indicate that the preparedness of 5 nurses at the Sukma Pearl Mental Hospital in the province of West Nusa Tenggara was very satisfying. In this study, most of the roles of nurses have carried out their duties and obligations properly, due to the preparation of the institution in preparation for the earthquake disaster. All participants have been provided with training in handling emergencies. Mental hospitals as health care centers at the top level in efforts to reduce earthquake risk must be prepared with planning supported by the role of nurses in disaster management. Keywords-Preparedness, Psychological Aspects, Earthquake INTRODUCTION Indonesia is a country that is classified as vulnerable to earthquake disasters, this is related to Indonesia's geographical location which lies between two large oceans and is located in the area of tectonic plates that are prone to earthquakes [1]. West Nusa Tenggara and its surroundings are located on tectonic and volcanic lines, on the north side there is a very active Merapi volcanic, and on the south side (Indian Ocean) including the Java Trench which is the IndoAustralian-Eurasian plate subduction pathway [2]. The meeting of the Indo-Australian Eurasian plate is the main cause of tectonic earthquakes in this region [3]. A total of 10 districts / cities in West Nusa Tenggara are included in the region at high risk of earthquakes [4]. Nurses are at the forefront of a hospital that has a large responsibility and role in the care of everyday emergency patients and during disasters [9]. The exact number of nurses involved in disaster management in the community is unknown [6]. Until now, the need for nurses to solve disasters in the community is the biggest need, which is 33% of all health workers involved [7].This phenomenon makes researchers interested in learning more about the experience of nurse preparedness in the management of psychological aspects in dealing with earthquake disaste","PeriodicalId":227928,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Third International Conference on Sustainable Innovation 2019 – Health Science and Nursing (IcoSIHSN 2019)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128813328","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To prevent the complications of the patients with type 2 DM caused by hypercholesterolemia, diet by fasting is important. Fasting on every Monday and Thursday following the Prophet Muhammad’s tradition has potential to reduce the cholesterol levels of the patients. This research used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test control for a group. It was conducted in January to May 2016 in Kasihan, Bantul, Yogyakarta. Its Respondents consisted of 15 people in an experimental group who were given interventions to fast every Monday and Thursday for one month with a total sampling technique and 15 people in a control group with standard treatments. Next, the gained data were analyzed by using the Wilcoxon test and Independent T-Test with a significance of p> 0.05. The results shown that the average cholesterol levels after the intervention was 189.87 mg/dl in the experimental group and 223.33 mg/dl in the control group. There were significant differences of the cholesterol levels between the experimental group and the control group before and after fasting. Fasting on Mondays and Thursdays effectively can reduce the cholesterol levels of patients with type 2 DM. Therefore, nurses can advise patients with type 2 DM to fast on Monday and Thursday by certain guidance.","PeriodicalId":227928,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Third International Conference on Sustainable Innovation 2019 – Health Science and Nursing (IcoSIHSN 2019)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125016957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
