The K-Ar biotite age from C body (Eastern intrusive body) is 6.59±0.27 Ma. The fission track dating on zircon from the same sample gives the concordant age of less than 8.1 Ma. The K-Ar biotote and hornblende ages from A body (Western intrusive body) are 5.87±0, 37 and 10.5±1.5 Ma, respectively. All ages obtained here correspond to the Late Miocene. By the previous paleomagmetical work it has been determined that the C body or igneous activity of C body among many igneous phases in the mining area is responsible for ore deposition. Therefore, we conclude that the age of 6.6 Ma which is obtained from C body is the mineralization age in the mining area. It is noteworthy that the mineralization of the Chichibu mining area is Late Miocene in age, whereas most other pyrometasomatic deposits in Japan were formed in Cretaceous time.","PeriodicalId":22709,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of the Japanese Association of Mineralogists,Petrologists and Economic Geologists","volume":"1 1","pages":"77-82"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-02-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90127351","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Additionally, prehnite, together with minor amounts of other minerals , not infrequently forms veins and nodular aggregates. The electron probe microanalysis shows that the range of the Fe/Al ratio in both minerals are fairly wide, and their maximum iron contents represent the highest in pumpellyite and prehnite ever reported from Japan.","PeriodicalId":22709,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of the Japanese Association of Mineralogists,Petrologists and Economic Geologists","volume":"54 1","pages":"51-58"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-02-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74497823","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The conventional methods require to use correction diagrams for the inclination angle and to evaluate the corrected value of the optic axial angle graphically by means of stereographic projection. Such graphical procedures, however, are troublesome and time-consuming as well as lower in accuracy, and many workers wish to make the collection more conveniently. The present author recommends the correction of the optic axial angle by calculation when the points of emergence of both optic axes can be determined directly with the five-axes universal stage. The method proposed here is of a mathematical treatment of the Emmons' graphical method and remarkably facilitates the procedure for correction by using a computer. It is also applicable to the correction in the measurement of the optic axial angle with the four-axes universal stage. Programs in the BASIC language are exemplified for both the five- and fouraxes universal stages.","PeriodicalId":22709,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of the Japanese Association of Mineralogists,Petrologists and Economic Geologists","volume":"72 1","pages":"83-91"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-02-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74298962","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are divided into four types on the basis of their occurrence and lithology, i. e., 1) nodule, 2) A type: phosphate bearing calcareous shale, 3) B type: coarse grey coloured carbonaceous sandstone, 4) C type: massive greyish sparitic limestone. Petrological and chemical features of four types are transitional with each other. Phosphate is dominant in the nodules and A type rocks, while carbonate is dominant in B and C type rocks. The analytical results of these rocks show the following characteristics: P2O5 and F contents of analysed rocks have wide ranges from 17.73 to 0.09% and 14, 000 to 85 ppm, respectively. Strong correlations between P2O5-F, FeO* (total iron as FeO)-MgO, CaO-CO2, and MnO-CaO are worthy of note. Phosphate-rich rocks are composed mainly of cryptocrystalline fluorapatite. Carbonate in all types contain several% of MnCO3 as solid solution. Judging from an important role of upwelling, the existence of sedimentary phosphatic rocks and Mn-rich carbonate rocks indicates that the sedimentary environments of the Toyoman Series were not a closed inland sea, but a continental shelf or slope.","PeriodicalId":22709,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of the Japanese Association of Mineralogists,Petrologists and Economic Geologists","volume":"12 1","pages":"12-31"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-01-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81544856","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The contact aureole in the complex can be divided into four zones, from north to south, using critical mineral assemblages as follows: Zone 1 olivine+antigorite+clinopyroxene Zone 2 olivine+talc±tremolite Zone 3 olivine+anthophyllite±tremolite Zone 4 olivine+orthopyroxene±tremolite The mineral paragenesis indicates that the temperature reached at approximately 400°C in the north of the complex, and 750°C at the southern margin. Abundant carbonate minerals were formed in the northern marginal area of the zone 1. The mineral assemblages change (from the northern rim to the middle of the zone) from magnesite+talc, magnesite+talc+antigorite to magnesite+antigorite. The change should have been caused by decreasing in CO2 pressure. The original rock of the complex is probably a residual mantle material (harzburgite with dunite).","PeriodicalId":22709,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of the Japanese Association of Mineralogists,Petrologists and Economic Geologists","volume":"12 1","pages":"59-66"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-01-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85998339","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The rocks mainly consist of metamorphic olivine, clinopyroxene, orthopyroxene, serpentine, talc, tremolite, anthophyllite and magnetite. Relict minerals were distinguished from metamorphic minerals. In the northern area of the low metamorphic grade, relict olivine as well as clinopyroxene were found. Chromite is a probable relict mineral appearing throughout the complex. Metamorphic orthopyroxene is found in the area of the highest metamorphic grade, and is enstatite depleted in diopside component. The relict olivines are Fo89.5-93 and enriched in NiO, whereas the metamorphic olivines in the low grade (up to Fo96.5) are depleted in NiO. In the high grade area in the south of the complex, the metamorphic olivine (Fo90-93.5) are enriched in NiO as much as the relict olivine. The metamorphic diopside is extremely poor in Cr2O3 and Al2O3. The relict diopsides are more enriched in the both elements than the metamorphic ones, but they are less enriched in wollastonite component than the metamorphic ones.","PeriodicalId":22709,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of the Japanese Association of Mineralogists,Petrologists and Economic Geologists","volume":"3 1","pages":"1-11"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1986-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89779144","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The expandability decreases with depth from about 80 to 0% over intervals of 100 to 400m in the western part of the area, while intervals of more than 600m in the eastern part. The percentage of expandable layers in mica/smectite decrease from east to west. The expandable layer isopleth map at the top of the Yotsuzawa Formation shows a decrease in expandable layers from 80 to 10% at a distance of about 500m. The conversion of smectite to mica/smectite mixed layers begins at 0.6-0.8% vitrinite reflectivity, and the conversion to the 10% of expandable layers occurs in 1.2-2.8% vitrinite reflectivity. Stratiform ore bodies of Kuroko and copper-lead-zinc veins are restricted to the zone less than 20% of expandable layers at the top of the Yotsuzawa Formation. The expandability of mica/smectite mixed layer in sediments is useful as a guide to mineral exploration.","PeriodicalId":22709,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of the Japanese Association of Mineralogists,Petrologists and Economic Geologists","volume":"PP 1","pages":"526-536"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1985-12-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84351583","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
