Containerized cargo is responsible for more than half of the inter-island trade volume, making it one critical freight transport mode in the Indonesia archipelago. We summarize the network topological structure by measures such as degree distribution, average path length, and average clustering coefficient. Based on the initial result, we find that the degree distribution of the container shipping network in archipelago fits a hybrid distribution. The distribution proves the studied network is not scale-free. With regards to the network structure, the archipelago’s s hipping network exhibits a short path length and a low value of the clustering coefficient, potentially rejecting the small-world structure hypothesis. These initial findings provide evidence that the maritime shipping network in a large-scale archipelago shows a distinctive pattern compared to other maritime shipping networks in the existing literature.","PeriodicalId":225994,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 22nd International Conference on Harbor, Maritime and Multimodal Logistic Modeling & Simulation(HMS 2020)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126361164","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The latter, however, the great benefits that can bring, they are experiencing some difficulties in mass diffusion. The aim of this work is to develop and propose a tool that identifies the charging possibilities present along the route by simulating a trip with an electric vehicle in order to evaluate the planning of the charging stations in an area and identify any critical issues. For this reason, this work has on the one hand it is to support the user in planning a trip starting from an origin and destination and on the other it can also be used by public and private subjects (decision makers) to identify the best location of the Charging Stations (CSs) in an area. The proposed analytical model has been automated in a software prototype based on spreadsheet and GIS tools. The case studies have been applied in the Lombardy Region (Italy) in order to verify its validity and","PeriodicalId":225994,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 22nd International Conference on Harbor, Maritime and Multimodal Logistic Modeling & Simulation(HMS 2020)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131262818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This fine record began historically with improvements to manufacturing processes, and in due course expanded to many other fields, including warehousing, transportation systems, health-care systems such as clinics and hospitals, and general customer-service systems such as banks, hotels, retail stores, and other venues where customer service is highly important. In this work, the application of simulation to improvement of customer service at an amusement park in Southeast Asia is documented, along with the contributions it made and indications for further work. The management of the park was justifiably concerned with operating costs, long customer waiting lines, and loss of potential customers via balking. Simulation pointed the way to significant process improvements and hence customer-service improvements with negligible increases in operating costs.","PeriodicalId":225994,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 22nd International Conference on Harbor, Maritime and Multimodal Logistic Modeling & Simulation(HMS 2020)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127402629","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the main functions affected by these challenges is the logistics activity, including warehouse management and transports. Indeed, they now have to face higher orders at the same time, to manage picks demand in specified periods, to increase journeys for reaching various customers geographically dispersed. Optimization and synchronization are essential. To this end and according to the steps of the Deming Cycle, this paper presents the case of a warehouse located in northern Italy whose storage activity was firstly simulated and then successfully implemented so as to optimize the picking activity and consequently the subsequent processes of the outbound flow. Improvements were assessed through determined key performance indicators, monitored before and after the implementation of the new strategy.","PeriodicalId":225994,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 22nd International Conference on Harbor, Maritime and Multimodal Logistic Modeling & Simulation(HMS 2020)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132388598","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With increasing vessel sizes, cargo volumes and higher demand for supply-chain optimization, seaports are required to be more efficient and competitive. In the present study, a proposed solution incorporating IoT and Blockchain is considered into automating many of the activities in the load planning process, which is then evaluated via simulation. Real data is collected concerning different types of cargo for RoPax vessels with the intended goal of reducing planning time in a seaport. The results contribute as one piece of the mosaic on the avenue towards becoming a “Smart Port”, which deploys various digitalization technologies in order to become a fully automated port. The suggested approach to be integrated, builds upon IoT sensors in combination with the lightweight version of a Blockchain to improve balance indicators on a trim of a vessel. A developed simulation tool was used for evaluating a number of scenarios, with each scenario run set to 2500 times. The simulation results indicate an improvement of 50-160% from the current load planning operations for RoPax vessels.","PeriodicalId":225994,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 22nd International Conference on Harbor, Maritime and Multimodal Logistic Modeling & Simulation(HMS 2020)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127489600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Ecological Footprint (EF) methodology is a tool of growing popularity that assesses the CO 2 emissions-related environmental impact. Within a broader Environmental Management System, the EF can provide a simple index to inform policy decisions. However, only a few studies have applied the EF methodology at ports. In this study the EF methodology was employed in order to assess the CO 2 emissions-related EF of the port of Thessaloniki (THPA), a mid-sized cargo and passenger port in Northern Greece, for two consecutive years, 2008 and 2009. The activities of the port were divided into six components: built-up land, population (port staff), electricity consumption, fuel consumption, solid waste producti on and wastewater production. THPA’s total EF was higher compared to the ports of other studies, mainly due to the higher electricity and fuel consumption and the fact that the Greek electricity sector has a higher CO 2 emission factor. The limitations of the EF when applied at ports are discussed and alternative tools, methodologies and frameworks are suggested for environmental management at ports.","PeriodicalId":225994,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 22nd International Conference on Harbor, Maritime and Multimodal Logistic Modeling & Simulation(HMS 2020)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123651319","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
