Yet the sheer amount of such visual\u0000 data, combined with the untranslatability and poor quality of the footage,\u0000 delivers an often opaque and ambiguous material. Peter Snowdon’s film\u0000 The Uprising (2013) appropriates and reassembles this amateur footage.\u0000 Compared to the 1992 film Videograms of a Revolution by Harun Farocki\u0000 and Andrei Ujică, The Uprising raises the question of a possible knowledge\u0000 shift produced and performed by the amateur video maker. Analysing different web maps,\u0000 I will show their rootedness in the dominant political world views and\u0000 contrast them with the perspectives of the parties of conflict (Sahrawi\u0000 Arab Democratic Republic and Morocco). The results show significant\u0000 differences between proprietary and crowdsourced web maps as well as\u0000 the cartographic representations authored by the factions.
