These youths have many service needs. The Computer Assisted Adolescent Referral System (CAARS) is designed to assist youths in gaining access to services, support youth-serving professionals in making referrals, and identify high-risk youths in multiple settings. The system, which is self-evaluating, is a health, mental health, and social services database with over fifty service organizations listed and twenty-five types of services available. The Measurement Group (TMG), in collaboration with Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), developed CAARS in 1995 as a freestanding program. Funding was provided by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Special Projects of National Significance (SPNS) Program. The Web version (http://www.caars.net) was created in early 1998 in order to increase access to an earlier, stand-alone version of CAARS, and provide a way for those who serve youths thr...","PeriodicalId":224930,"journal":{"name":"Health Care on the Internet archive","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122078012","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Abuse of crystal methamphetamine is particularly on the rise. Alcohol misuse on college campuses continues to be a nationwide problem. National drug control policies, however, have not focused extensively on education- and prevention-based interventions. Included in this article are annotated references to youth-focused Web-based substance use resources, some designed and written specifically by youth for youth.","PeriodicalId":224930,"journal":{"name":"Health Care on the Internet archive","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115019719","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to demonstrate the Internet's usefulness in the field of pediatrics, the topic of childhood asthma was selected to demonstrate some methods of accessing information which might be of interest to pediatric health care providers, parents, or interested lay persons. Various methods of searching for relevant information are demonstrated and the Internet facilities of Gopher, listserv, FTP, and World-Wide Web (WWW) are explored. The URLs of many useful sites which contain information pertaining to childhood asthma are given.","PeriodicalId":224930,"journal":{"name":"Health Care on the Internet archive","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121741520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
