As a simulation tool we use COMSOL multi-physics 4.2 software. The finite element method (FEM) with perfectly matched layer (PML) circular boundary is used to investigate the guiding properties. The MES-PCF exhibits nearly zero flattened dispersion over 1.25-1.75 μm wavelength with low confinement and splice losses of order 2×10-7 dB/km and 6.558803 dB respectively at 1.55 μm. The fiber which can resist bending effects due to macro-bend as low as 1 mm with a bending loss of order 0.0015 dB/km at a wavelength of 1.55 μm makes it good enough for long distance transmission and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) applications. So, the proposed MES-PCF can be used to mitigate the demand for long distance transmission as well as FTTH applications.","PeriodicalId":224903,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International WIE Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (WIECON-ECE)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129270530","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to this the need to install large amount of power generation to meet the increasing load has become the basic utility, which is quite complex to distribute the power among large number of units economically in less time. This intricacy made to develop the faster convergent techniques to large systems. Economic load dispatch is a basic tool in balancing the power among units with minimum cost. Henceforth the paper evaluates and demonstrates the ELD with transmission losses in three best optimization techniques called Genetic Algorithm, Particle Swarm Optimization and Cuckoo Search Optimization Techniques abstracted from optimization world. A comparative analysis of three methods is done for 62-bus Indian utility system and other higher order systems. The paper ensures that the cuckoo search optimization technique is the best for faster convergence as well as for better economical and as the system size increases CSO provides the vast economic difference i.e. best economical than other methods.","PeriodicalId":224903,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International WIE Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (WIECON-ECE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129337231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unlike omni-directional sensors, it is required to activate the sensor nodes along with their sensing directions in DSNs. Appropriate selection of sensing sectors that can maximize the area coverage is a challenging problem here. In this work, we develop a greedy algorithm for area coverage in clustered DSNs using Voronoi diagram. To improve the overall area coverage ratio in the network, the cluster head activates the directional sensors by considering the area coverage contribution of sensors in the Voronoi cells. The use of clustering and Voronoi cells reduces the computational complexity and increases the overall coverage ratio. The simulation experiement results show the efficacy of the algorithm over the state-of-the-art works it is compared to.","PeriodicalId":224903,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International WIE Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (WIECON-ECE)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130698040","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Packet modification is a common attack in wireless sensor networks. In literature, many schemes have been proposed to mitigate such an attack but very few detect the malicious nodes effectively. In the proposed approach, each node chooses the parent node for forwarding the packet towards sink. Each node adds its identity and trust on parent as a routing path marker and encrypts only the bytes added by node in packet before forwarding to parent. Sink can determine the modifiers based on trust value and node identities marked in packet. Child node observes the parent and decides the trust on parent based on successful and unsuccessful transactions. Data transmission is divided into multiple rounds of equal time duration. Each node chooses the parent node at the beginning of a round based on its own observation on parent. Simulated the algorithm in NS-3 and performance analysis is discussed. With the combination of trust factor and fixed path routing to detect malicious activity, analytical results show that proposed method detect modifiers efficiently and early, and also with low percentage of false detection.","PeriodicalId":224903,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International WIE Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (WIECON-ECE)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133475561","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Usually, velocities of the particles are regulated to bring them back to solution space; Here the basic approach of regulating the position of particles is different than the conventional approaches, particles which go out of solution place are relocated inside by maintaining symmetry about the boundary. A twelve element linear antenna array is taken as the optimization target for the reduction of side lobes in the radiation pattern without increase in the mainlobe beamwidth. Results of the proposed boundary condition show better performance in terms of better global solution and quicker convergence compare to the other established boundary algorithms.","PeriodicalId":224903,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International WIE Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (WIECON-ECE)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114451452","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Details of a protein's atomic complexity and unknown energy function make the problem harder. To solve the problem, numerous attempts have been tried by the researchers in the recent years. One of the approaches is using lattice model for simplification. The advantage of lattice model is discretization of the space which enables faster heuristic search algorithms to be used. However, one of the principal concern is the selection of proper lattice to model the protein structures. A number of lattices have been used and proposed in the literature of protein chain lattice fit (PCLF) problem. In PCLF problem, a three dimensional fold of a protein chain considering the coordinates of C-α atoms is mapped to lattice as its vertices and target is to make a protein lattice model similar to its native structure. In this paper, we proposed a two stage algorithm for PCLF problem using KW (knights walk) lattice model. We first use chain growth algorithm to map the C-α carbon in lattice and found very close lattice fit with lower dRMSD. In the second stage, we apply a local search algorithm using a novel operator diagonal move. On a standard set of benchmark protein structures, our algorithm was able to find improvement over other lattices used by the state-of-the-art algorithms.","PeriodicalId":224903,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International WIE Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (WIECON-ECE)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129622659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we present the segmentation method for detecting the lumen border of a coronary artery using IVUS images. The automated segmentation used is Otsu threshold, binary-morphological operation and empirical threshold. Thirty samples of IVUS images inclusive of the ground truth (manual tracings) were obtained from Computer Vision Centre, Bellaterra, Dept. Matematica Aplicada i Anàlisi, Universitat de Barcelona, Barcelona was used in this study. The result of the proposed automated segmentation is then compared with the ground truth provided. The segmentation performance of the proposed method is measured using Jaccard Index (JI), Dice Similarity Index (DI), Hausdorff Distance (HD), Area Overlapped Error (AOE) and Percentage Area Difference (PAD). The Bland Altman Plot is used to show the variation between the proposed automatic segmentation and ground truth. The results obtained show that the segmentation performance based on JI, DI, AOE and PAD of the proposed method is reasonably good when compared to other existing segmentation methods. However, further improvement is needed to obtain better HD value.","PeriodicalId":224903,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International WIE Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (WIECON-ECE)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126766379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The approach of automatic pain assessment boosts the psychological comfort of patients. It could be a direct help to children, mentally challenged people, very elderly people, patients in postoperative care, or people with transient state of consciousness. Since pain is a subjective phenomenon, it is quite difficult to have an automatic pain measuring device. The research is relatively new in this field and is constantly evolving. In this paper we propose a completely automatic shoulder pain intensity recognition system. A very small dimensional directional displacement geometric feature vector is extracted automatically from prominent facial regions. To classify the features into sixteen levels of intensities Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) and Support Vector Machines (SVM) are used. The UNBC-McMaster Shoulder Pain Expression Archive Database is used for the experimentation. The database has various challenges associated with it including the problem of head orientation which is also addressed in this work. We achieve an average recognition accuracy of 82.1% using GMM and 87.43% using SVM classifier.","PeriodicalId":224903,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International WIE Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (WIECON-ECE)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131292858","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
