Performance evaluation is one of the main concerns in smart grid communication system. In any smart grid communication implementation, to determine the performance factor of the network, a testing of an end-to-end process flow is required. Therefore, an effective testing tool plays a crucial role in evaluating the performance of smart grid communications. Ping is currently one of the most widely used tools. In this paper, a customized ping utility, called Smart Grid Ping, is introduced. This utility provides random ping intervals with user selectable distribution, allowing network administrators to test the reachability and availability of various applications in smart grid communication system.","PeriodicalId":224257,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Advanced Computer Science Applications and Technologies (ACSAT)","volume":"282 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132905867","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The increasing capabilities and the decreasing costs of sensors make MASNETs applications possible to be deployed in real world. However, before such application can be deployed, their performance need to be measured first. But, the use of real-world measurement is costly and time consuming. Therefore, it is more economical and practical to use simulation tools to simulate MASNETs applications. Although, there are many existing simulation tools for MANETs, most of them are not suitable for MASNETs due to resource-constraint of such networks. Therefore, it is essential to have a survey of the existing simulation tools for MASNETs. In this paper, the comparative study on different simulation tools is conducted to identify the most appropriate tool for MASNETs.","PeriodicalId":224257,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Advanced Computer Science Applications and Technologies (ACSAT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129630521","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The presence of noise not only degrades the visual quality but also immensely affects the accuracies of segmentation which is essential for medical diagnosis process. In this paper, we present an improved approach for denoising and segmentation of 2-D magnetic resonance brain images for detecting the tumor. We use fourth order partial differential equation based technique for removing MRI noises and thereby applied segmentation using automatic seeded region growing algorithm for detecting brain tumor automatically. The contribution of this work is the use of compass operator to preserve the anatomically significant information at the edges and a new morphological technique for skull removal from the brain MRI image which leads to the process of detecting tumor accurately. The method is tested on several real brain MRI images and it shows 100% success in detecting tumor automatically.","PeriodicalId":224257,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Advanced Computer Science Applications and Technologies (ACSAT)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122786471","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

IPS is evolving recently in a way that is expected eventually to replace other security solutions such as firewalls and anti-viruses. To over come the static signature detecting mechanism to identify intruders that exists in all host based IPSs which in turn needs to be updated from time to time to insure the most accurate detection. In this paper we introduce a four tier host based IPS that uses data mining technique, namely decision tree, as a detecting mechanism. The input parameters for the prior decision tree algorithm are the most infected or targeted computer resources by intruders, instead of a static signature database. Three test scenarios were performed to investigate the ability of the proposed IPS to classify intruders correctly.","PeriodicalId":224257,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Advanced Computer Science Applications and Technologies (ACSAT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128972883","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a step in the bug triaging process, assigning a new bug to the most appropriate developer to fix it, is not only a time-consuming and tedious task. The triager, the person who considers a bug and assigns it to a developer, also needs to be aware of developer activities at different parts of the project. It is clear that only a few developers have this ability to carry out this step of bug triaging. The main goal of this paper is to suggest a new approach to the process of performing automatic bug assignment. The information needed to select the best developers to fix a new bug report is extracted from the version control repository of the project. Unlike all the previous suggested approaches which used Machine Learning and Information Retrieval methods, this research employs the Information Extraction (IE) methods to extract the information from the software repositories. The proposed approach does not use the information of the bug repository to make decisions about bugs in order to obtain better results on projects which do not have many fixed bugs. The aim of this research is to recommend the actual fixers of the bugs. Using this approach, we achieved 62%, 43% and 41% accuracies on Eclipse, Mozilla and Gnome projects, respectively.","PeriodicalId":224257,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Advanced Computer Science Applications and Technologies (ACSAT)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117328593","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study, focus on the effects of social network on serving, and publishing Islam. In this study, the main purposes included studies in which field students benefit from social network, making the Islamic information accessible over the world for Muslims, and non-Muslims, also to clarify the Islamic issues, wrong thoughts, and misunderstanding of non-Muslims about Islam. This was measured using survey spread over 500 students focusing on social network usage, purposes, Islamic effects. Participations were chosen from different student education types: schools, undergraduate, and graduate students. The results indicate that, students use more than one social network such as: Facebook, Twitter, Linkedln, Hi5, etc. The students almost use Facebook 97%. Students discuss different type of questions while using social network Islamic topics discussed by 40%, different Islamic topics discussed, and different Islamic sites introduced for members. The response of being a religious man as a member is very low, members thing it is very important for them to be one of the member a religious man. According to the results, Islamic information increased by 78%. This means that the social network is highly used as a way to serve and publish Islam. On the other hand, religion, and Da'wah men must concentrate to be effective members on social networking to get better results in publishing, and serving Islam.","PeriodicalId":224257,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Advanced Computer Science Applications and Technologies (ACSAT)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121087730","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Generally, online text recognition field has been gaining more interest lately due to the increasing popularity of hand-held computers, digital notebooks and advanced cellular phones. However, different techniques have been used to build several online handwritten recognition systems for Arabic text, such as Neural Networks, Hidden Markov Model, Template Matching and others. Most of the researches on online text recognition have divided the recognition system into these three main phases which are preprocessing phase, feature extraction phase and recognition phase which considers as the most important phase and the heart of the whole system. This paper presents and compares techniques that have been used to recognize the Arabic handwriting scripts in online recognition systems. Those techniques attempt to recognize Arabic handwritten words, characters, digits or strokes. The structure and strategy of those reviewed techniques are explained in this article. The strengths and weaknesses of using these techniques will also be discussed.","PeriodicalId":224257,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Advanced Computer Science Applications and Technologies (ACSAT)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131014972","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
