The prerequisite for every innovation is an innovation idea (referred to as “idea” within this paper). However, not every idea can be further developed. The limitation of resources requires companies to restrict themselves to only the most promising ideas. These promising ideas are selected on the basis of a defined evaluation process, which focuses on the evaluation of the idea’s potential. Meanwhile the realization of this potential is neglected due to missing suitable evaluation approaches. The result is a severe deficit regarding the success of the evaluation process. Only one out of 3,000 initially selected ideas leads to a successful product innovation. Hence, the aim of this paper is the development of a methodology, which enables the assessment of the realizability of ideas. For this, the authors propose the introduction of a logic degree as assessment criteria for ideas.","PeriodicalId":224168,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Technology & Engineering Management Conference (TEMSCON)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115766895","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is no different for electric power system and its grid services. Therefore, the digitalization of the electrical Utilities is more and more assiduous. It contributes to a better supply of energy with more reliability, as well as the reduction of operational and maintenance cost. For what concerns the grid services, the workforce is a constantly target to improvement. Doing so, the Utilities Human Interface sector can be enhanced with digital technological trends. For instance, virtual and augmented realities is used to sharpening cognitive and on-field operational aspects. These technologies have applicability that involves learning process, training improvement, faster problem solution, facilitation of operations, etc. This paper aims to evaluated VR and AR looking at its trends toward an innovative technology applied to Electrical Utilities. A significant number of established manufacturing companies are facing this challenge by investing in new technologies apart from their core business to increase their innovativeness. Technologies as a sustainable differentiating feature become a relevant investment object and the early identification of high potential technologies a critical success factor. Currently, investment decisions for technologies are often based on the individual experience of the respective decision-makers. Person-dependent, implicit criteria are used for the evaluation within decision-making processes. This procedure is not feasible for the evaluation of new technologies outside a company’s own core business and bears a high risk of misjudgment, due to the lack of experience and knowledge of the decision-makers. Furthermore, it is impossible to make investment decisions based on financial indicators such as the return on investment (ROI) at an early stage, since developments are only in the concept phase and high uncertainties prevail. Rather, decisions should be based on the potential, company-specific utility of technologies. Thus, a systematic and transparent evaluation approach is required, which allows an early assessment of the company-specific potential of technologies. This paper presents a model for the assessment of the company-specific utility potential of technologies in the early phases of the innovation process.","PeriodicalId":224168,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Technology & Engineering Management Conference (TEMSCON)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114955632","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A quantitative survey based on a literature review has been conducted on fifty Saudi entrepreneurs and decision-makers. The concept of entrepreneurial ecosystems is an emerging concept and there is limited little research on this topic and very rare work on the Saudi case. This paper provides recommendations to support the Saudi entrepreneurial ecosystem. The study recommends improving university educational programs that encourage entrepreneurship, reducing the bureaucracy level with starting new businesses, and increasing the adoption level of new technologies. The study illustrates that government support, individual support, and education are the major factors influencing the entrepreneurship ecosystem. While the top challenges were found to be the lack of individual skills, government regulations, society culture, and economic deterioration.","PeriodicalId":224168,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Technology & Engineering Management Conference (TEMSCON)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133319578","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such self-organization is marked by innovation and this paper simulates a mathematical model of innovation positioned to be at the heart of any complex adaptive system, regardless of scale. Innovation in general involves moving from a basis of negative to positive sources of real-time action and reaction. Sources of innovation are modeled as four distinct sets that research indicates have categorized sustainable organization at the quantum-particle level to the level of civilizations. Further, these four sources of innovation are modeled to themselves exist at four levels of possibility based on the breaking of prevailing patterns.
