An efficient method for detecting elliptical patterns is proposed. The method involves the center detection algorithm (CDA), director circle detection algorithm (DDA), and the form detecting algorithm (FDA). The CDA detects the center coordinates using the feature that there are two pixels in central symmetry with opposite edge orientation. The DDA detects the director circle instead of the semi-minor and semi-major diameters of the ellipse to reduce the parameters. The FDA determines the slope and diameters using the director circle.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":223769,"journal":{"name":"[Proceedings] Singapore ICCS/ISITA `92","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130753747","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But, established LMSSs can also offer competitive support to users in urban environments by extending services to portable terminals with emphasis in 'hand-held' sizes in the future. A LMSS communicating directly to mobile terminal requires the basic link analysis of small fixed terminal, but will have additional channel characteristics, due to the motion of the terminal. This motion introduces spectral changes in the transmitted waveforms that can provoke further degradations relative to those of fixed-point systems. Hence, attenuations are primarily originated by the time-varying multipaths that appear in trying to transmit an electromagnetic field from a satellite to a moving terminal or vehicle, and by rain effects. Therefore in all LMSSs, the communication link between the satellite and the mobile terminal is the most essential and critical part of the transmission path that will influence greatly the performance of the entire system. The author covers some design principles of the LMSS channel and describes its application using Ka-band (30/20 GHz) frequencies.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":223769,"journal":{"name":"[Proceedings] Singapore ICCS/ISITA `92","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128838945","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Probability densities of the level-crossing intervals, and correlation coefficients between successive level-crossing intervals of a process consisting of a sine wave plus Gaussian random noise are experimentally investigated by digital simulation. The Gaussian random noise is selected to be of 7-th order Butterworth power spectrum density. The obtained probability densities appear with a number of isolated peaks much larger than the number observed on the corresponding probability densities of the Gaussian noise alone. When the sine wave frequency is greater than or approximately equal to half of the cutoff frequency of the noise spectrum, experimental data suggest that each isolated peak has a Gaussian-like density. The assumption of 'quasi-independence' is not valid for the level-crossing intervals of the existing process.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":223769,"journal":{"name":"[Proceedings] Singapore ICCS/ISITA `92","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125446000","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Montgomery (see IEEE Trans. Comput., vol.40, p.1257, 1991) has proposed UEC code that correct any error pattern consisting of unidirectional errors confined to a single track. The UEC codes presented by Bose and Rao are a particular case of the codes by Montgomery. Although the latter is more efficient than the former, these two classes of code are constructed based on the same idea, and so the authors call these codes Bose Rao-Montgomery (BRM) codes. They consider the conditions under which such mis-corrections occur, and show that the row parity for each track is the suitable way of preventing from mis-corrections due to the single bit error in the other track.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":223769,"journal":{"name":"[Proceedings] Singapore ICCS/ISITA `92","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126372871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It enhances the description of local information and distinguishes similar contours. The characteristic of this algorithm is to represent the object by several sets of FDs which represent different portions of the object in contrast to only one set of FDs which represents the whole object. The authors use a model-based approach in the recognition stage in which these sets, say k sets, of FDs of the input numeral will be matched with each predefined model of the numeral class. It is shown that a higher accuracy rate can be achieved by using a multicategory classifier incorporated with an artificial neural network classifier. Finally, an experiment on numeral recognition by the proposed algorithm is reported.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":223769,"journal":{"name":"[Proceedings] Singapore ICCS/ISITA `92","volume":"10 9","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114111354","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
