Wind energy has significantly been recognized and utilized as the most preferred renewable energy source in the present time across Australia and worldwide. The southern coastline and elevated areas of Australia have good wind resources. However, the traditional boost converter and impedance source networks fail to carter the high voltage demand of the wind power generation system. In this regard, a new topology of impedance source networks, called Improved Sigma-Z-source, is proposed which facilitates a high output voltage gain. The network replaces the conventional inductor arrangement in traditional Z-source and consists of two capacitors connected in series with secondary windings of the transformer. The proposed system has a high dc voltage gain at a low turn ratio. The relevant modeling of design parameters and simulation results are presented in the paper.","PeriodicalId":223615,"journal":{"name":"The 9th Renewable Power Generation Conference (RPG Dublin Online 2021)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127117714","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the hardware used in the electric grid is becoming increasingly vulnerable to cyber-attack which leads not only to financial loss but also affect the operation of microgrids. In this article, a virtual sensor placement approach is proposed to continuously monitor and detect the malicious activities that may occur at a hardware level of the dc microgrid system. Hence, a state observer-based method is developed across the selected dc-converters which not only detects the malicious activity but also consumes less computational burden. This proposed method is simple in implementation, efficient in operation and can be maintained by a single supervisory control system. The proposed method is implemented in real-time hardware using the LabView test bench by considering the three dc systems connected in a ring manner communicated via the E-LAN network.","PeriodicalId":223615,"journal":{"name":"The 9th Renewable Power Generation Conference (RPG Dublin Online 2021)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116639490","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the future CI-DRES may have the responsibility to cope simultaneously with several issues. One function that has already been presented in the literature, but has not yet been included in Standards, is the operation of the DRES converters as active harmonic filters. This paper firstly develops an active filtering control for the CI-DRES, taking into account its thermal limit. This parameter is important, since DRES are already prescribed by Standards to participate in the voltage regulation process by providing reactive power. If the CI-DRES operates also as active filter, it may exceed its thermal capacity. Secondly, the decentralized operation of CI-DRES is evaluated in the CIGRE Benchmark LV distribution system by considering several scenarios of DRES/Non-linear loads penetration and mixture. Time-domain (TD) simulations are carried out in PowerSim Software to demonstrate the contribution of each CI-DRES in the active filtering process. The derived conclusions will serve as a basis for the development of a new coordinated algorithm, so as the CI-DRES can mitigate properly voltage harmonic distortion (HD) in the most efficient techno-economic way. In this way, the active filtering can be treated as a new ancillary service to be introduced in respective markets.","PeriodicalId":223615,"journal":{"name":"The 9th Renewable Power Generation Conference (RPG Dublin Online 2021)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115607902","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of these hybrid power plants include some kind of storage such as battery storage. This enhances the possibility of energy arbitrage with the use of storage in the hybrid power plant. This paper performs a preliminary analysis of potential of storage for energy arbitrage in Australian electricity market which can be more characterized as real-time market. Feasibility analysis of storage is performed through calculation of net present value using a model predictive control based battery optimization methodology. Through different case studies, preliminary assessment suggests that battery storage can be a feasible option for energy arbitrage in Queensland electricity market.","PeriodicalId":223615,"journal":{"name":"The 9th Renewable Power Generation Conference (RPG Dublin Online 2021)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126478728","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There has been a lack of technical requirements for DG to provide grid support and for network operators to monitor, control and gather detailed information of DG installations. The work reported in this paper has explored available data sources to provide better visibility of the amount, size and type of DG installed at various locations in the distribution networks and evaluated it alongside whole electricity system trends. Several of the issues associated with a high volume of generation being unobservable and uncontrollable are surveyed and discussed, such as active network management and coordination of transmission and distribution (T & D) networks. Finally, the paper discusses system resilience, emphasising that DG loss-of-mains protection continues to present a threat to system security and DG adds uncertainty to the effectiveness of automatic defence mechanisms. The latter issues were brought into focus following a system disturbance in GB on August 9th, 2019 and are reflected on in this study.","PeriodicalId":223615,"journal":{"name":"The 9th Renewable Power Generation Conference (RPG Dublin Online 2021)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114944097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To make another successful achievement of this target, wind power will be occupying the highest proportion compared to other renewable generations. Due to the seasonal and intermittent characters associated with most renewable generation, interconnectors and energy storage are playing a vital role to assure the grid security and flexibility. This paper focused on the Integrated Single Electricity Market (I-SEM) interconnection and the benefits for the future grid. The prediction of interconnection capacities, ranging from 580MW to 2030MW, for 2030 I-SEM's best system performance and social benefits had been made. The benefits of interconnection in the 2030 I-SEM with high renewable generation was also revealed. The simulation results including annual wholesale system marginal prices (SMPs), total system generation costs, total system generation revenues, I-SEM emissions and the best level of interconnection capacities had been achieved and analysed. The results showed that the I-SEM SMPs would be reduced by 26.0% comparing with the highest and lowest interconnection capacities. Furthermore, carbon emissions would be reduced by 30.2% in 2030 for Ireland comparing with the case study.","PeriodicalId":223615,"journal":{"name":"The 9th Renewable Power Generation Conference (RPG Dublin Online 2021)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124366069","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The generic discussion is accompanied by a case study comparing the value of wave, wind and solar power using time series data for production and prices generated by grid and market simulations. The study has shown that simplified common-practise approaches (which do not consider correlation) fail to correctly reveal the market value of electricity production. It has also been shown that wave power can achieve a market value that is significantly higher than wind and slightly higher than solar. These differences in market value have been explained through correlation between electricity production and price, which is different for different energy sources. The study has identified competitive advantages of wave power towards the dominant sustainable energy sources, that need to be taken into account when competitiveness and profitability are to be assessed.","PeriodicalId":223615,"journal":{"name":"The 9th Renewable Power Generation Conference (RPG Dublin Online 2021)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116222300","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This information can be generated through a distribution system state estimation (DSSE). The accuracy of DSSE usually suffers from the lack of available measurements. In this paper a three-phase DSSE is performed for a real low-voltage system in Germany. The accuracy of the DSSE is evaluated based on the differences between the measurements and estimation results. Different measurement configurations are analysed, in order to determine a minimal measurement effort required for a given accuracy. Additionally, the optimal placement of new measurement devices is investigated. The results show that the performed DSSE is accurate enough to judge whether the operation of an unmeshed low-voltage system is within its thresholds or not.","PeriodicalId":223615,"journal":{"name":"The 9th Renewable Power Generation Conference (RPG Dublin Online 2021)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126049821","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Modern methods of construction (MMC) could potentially offer a solution to some of the barriers, achieving cost-savings through efficient manufacturing processes, realising greater value to clients, and paving the way for active building components in net-zero energy buildings. This paper discusses the potential of embedding BIPV products into a number of defined approaches to MMC, comparing the relative advantages and disadvantages to the current delivery of BIPV in traditional construction projects. It can be seen that MMC category 1 (volumetric structural systems) has the potential to deliver the greatest benefit from an integrated technology.","PeriodicalId":223615,"journal":{"name":"The 9th Renewable Power Generation Conference (RPG Dublin Online 2021)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125230307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
