It affects 10 to 15% of women and may present with pelvic pain and worsening quality of life. Treatment can be surgical, such as video laparoscopic segmental colectomy (VSC).\u0000\u0000Objective: To evaluate the quality of life of patients after VSC for treatment of intestinal endometriosis.\u0000\u0000Method: This is an observational, longitudinal, and retrospective study carried out through a review of medical records and a telephone interview with patients who underwent laparoscopic segmental colectomy in a private hospital between 2016 and 2020.\u0000\u0000Results: 43 patients were studied, of whom 30 (70%) complained of having impaired daily activities. Before surgery, dysmenorrhea intensity was classified as mild, moderate, severe, and very severe pain, with one patient (2.33%) classified as mild, three patients (6.98%) as moderate, 16 patients (37.2%) as severe, and 23 (53.49%) as very severe. As for pain during sexual intercourse, 13 patients (30%) reported dyspareunia. After surgery, 100% of the patients reported improvement in the complaint, referring to maintaining a normal routine after the VSC; of the 13 patients who did not feel that they had any impairment in their daily activities before the surgery, 2 still reported feeling more lively in their routine after having undergone surgery (P<.05). As for the intensity of dysmenorrhea after surgery, one (2.33%) patient classified it as moderate and 42 (97.67%) as mild (P<.05), indicating that there is a difference in pain intensity before and after surgery. Of the patients who previously reported dyspareunia, it was observed that 100% of them reported improvement after VSC with P=.0002.\u0000\u0000Conclusion: CSV can improve the quality of life of patients with intestinal endometriosis.

Enoxaparin is a low-molecular weight heparin (LMWH) that is indicated for the prevention and treatment of VTE and is the preferred agent for patients with cancer because of its lower risk of bleeding events and less drug interactions. Bleeding events such as muscular hematomas have been reported with the use of enoxaparin. The risk of hematoma is increased in those with certain risk factors that are frequently present in patients with active malignancy. Coagulation parameters are typically normal in patients with hematoma and there are no accepted criteria to predict which hematomas may become life-threatening. As hematomas present similarly to deep venous thrombosis (DVT), imaging is needed to distinguish them from one another as the treatment for one can worsen the other. Here we present a case of a woman with ovarian cancer and increasing clot burden of chronic diffuse VTE who developed a right calf hematoma while on chronic therapeutic enoxaparin.

Many patients underwent mechanical ventilation and endotracheal intubation for a prolonged period of time followed by a subsequent tracheostomy. The most common complications related to these maneuvers are stenosis, malacia, laryngotracheal granulomas, webs. The least common complications are tracheal necrosis due to tracheo-arterial or trachea-esophageal fistulas, caused by compression between the nasogastric tube and the orotracheal tube cuff.\u0000\u0000A case of 58-year-old female COVID-19 patient with severe pneumonia who underwent prolonged mechanical ventilation and intubation and for two months with unexplained episodes of food inhalation. During the swallowing test, it was observed inhalation, without natural passage of food from the glottic plane. Therefore, ENT specialist in swallowing, suspecting the feared tracheo-esophageal fistula, requested a double contrast esophageal x-ray that confirmed the diagnostic hypothesis. Thoracic surgery team performed surgical correction by resection and tracheal anastomosis with esophagoraffia.\u0000\u0000TEF is a very rare, but potentially fatal, complication of invasive VM. Nd:Yag 1064nm is the most versatile LASER for the treatment of facial vessels, and can be used in telangiectasias and reticular veins. It’s different spot size and pulse duration settings allow the most suitable parameterization for different types of veins. Due to its ease, practicality of use and for delivering good results, sclerotherapy is still the gold standard technique for sclerosis of varicose veins and telangiectasias. The 1064 nm Nd:YAG LASER is also efficient. Its limit is more restricted in veins of larger caliber (>3mm) and faster flow and, for physical reasons, the distance from the varicose vein to the skin should not exceed 3.5mm to 4mm. The pain at high fluences, the higher cost and the occurrence of relapses when used alone, make us opt for combined therapies in some situations.\u0000\u0000Case: Patient P.B.C, female, 43 years old, dancer, without previous comorbidities. She looked for an outpatient doctor with vascular care in February/2022 with a complaint of discomfort due to the forehead, with significant vessel dilation after physical exercise. Physical examination showed a dilated right and left supratrochlear veins. The treatment of sclerotherapy with polidocanol foam associated with the QS Nd:YAG 1064nm laser was indicated.\u0000\u0000Conclusion: Sclerotherapy associated with selective and immediate photo thermolysis, using the long-pulse Nd:YAG 1064 LASER increases the efficiency of the treatment of varicose veins, reducing possible complications when any of the techniques are used in isolation.

Research and technological innovations are the drivers of great progress in the fight against cancer. Unfortunately, all these advances, during the years 2020 and 2021 were in "pause" mode because the world is experiencing a pandemic, but the fight and research in oncology continue. However, if we add this infection to the most common infectious diseases, the sum of all of them -I insist- does not reach the almost 10 million deaths from cancer that occur per year, in the world. The increase in life expectancy, the best and most accurate diagnostic methods, environmental carcinogens, lifestyle, low physical activity, viruses with oncogenic capacity and a whole series of factors that seem to play a key role in the development of these oncological diseases, called “cancer”, explain this enormous number of annual deaths, to which I previously referred.
