To handle energy fluctuations during different time slots, a node may reduce its transmission power. Using a probabilistic graph model, we formalize a problem denoted EH-BPDREL (for breach path detection reliability). The problem calls for estimating the likelihood that any such intrusion can be detected and reported to a sink node. Due to the hardness of the problem, bounding algorithms are needed. We devise an efficient algorithm to solve a core problem that facilitates the design of various lower bounding algorithms. We obtain numerical results on the use of Monte Carlo simulation to estimate the probabilistic graph parameters, and illustrate the use of our devised algorithm to bound the solutions.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"828 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133682938","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the slow convergence experienced by traditional DRL agents puts many doubts on their practical adoption in cellular networks. In this paper, we first discuss the need to have accelerated DRL algorithms. We then analyze the exploration behavior of various state-of-the-art DRL algorithms for slice resource allocation, and compare it with the traditional 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) slicing baselines. Finally, we propose a transfer learning-accelerated DRL-based solution for slice resource allocation. In particular, we tackle the challenge of slow convergence by transferring the policy learned by a DRL agent at an expert base station (BS) to newly deployed agents at target learner BSs. Our approach shows a remarkable reduction in convergence time and a significant performance improvement compared with its non-accelerated counterparts when tested against multiple traffic load variations.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128375769","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Offshore Communication Network(OCN) resolves this problem by providing Internet over the ocean through a fishing vessel network. OCN is a multi-layered architecture with heterogeneous connectivity ranges, directionality, resources, and mobility patterns. Connectivity maintenance is challenging due to the lack of infrastructure, expanded mobility, network sparsity, and sea-wave-induced movements. This paper discusses a framework to improve OCN connectivity with a multi-level optimization strategy. We propose a predictive model to generate real-time forecasts of link status. At the physical level, node position re-orientations to higher connectivity locations are suggested. The transmission queue management and prioritized scheduling in the link-layer minimize the queuing delay. A reinforcement routing strategy in the network layer determines the best next-hop for message dissemination. The proposed three-level optimization approach facilitates communication capability enhancement in OCN.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114543102","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, a TinyIPFIX-based system was designed, such that this application layer protocol is now usable to exchange data in WSNs efficiently. The system implementation in MicroPython is simple and efficient in comparison to a lower level programming language, while displaying valuable properties in terms of overhead and power efficiency. Furthermore, it demonstrates that MicroPython may pave the way towards Network Function Virtualization (NFV) on Internet- of-Things (IoT) devices by providing highly portable software functions implemented in a high-level programming language.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122013906","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Motivation for QoS differentiation comes from the emerging storage technologies which not only provide network comparable latency but also overwhelm the network bandwidth close to the storage servers. We consider both throughput and latency related QoS requirements and demonstrate how they can be enforced by Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN) enabled switches. The mechanism can be viewed as a way of adding QoS capability to the existing data center transport solutions. Our scheme can co-exist with existing congestion management schemes and ensures RTT fairness while providing service differentiation. We show that our scheme can provide differentiated treatment and besides achieving better throughput fairness during the congestion episode, our solution can reduce the target latency misses by up to 71% and 80% as compared to the existing TCP and RDMA transport.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125240567","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although connectivity information is maintained by individual nodes, such identifier-based information might be unreliable due to the possibility of bogus identifiers. This paper tackles the problem of peer connectivity estimation through data-driven analytics of blockchain traffic for reliable blockchain networking. We define a set of variables to represent traffic characteristics and estimate peer connectivity from the collected data using a machine learning methodology. We also investigate the feasibility of feature prioritization to minimize estimation complexities. Our experimental results show that the presented estimation mechanism makes accurate predictions, with less than 0.1 difference between the measurement and estimation for over 99.7% of predictions. The time complexity measured on a commodity machine shows a microsecond scale for completing a single prediction task, enabling real-time operations.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130485545","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We use a probabilistic graph model that associates a probability distribution with each node to model the random variability of a node’s transmission range. In its basic form, the graph uses a 3-state node model that associates a probability distribution representing the likelihood that a node is either in a full power, reduced power, or failed state. Using this model, we tackle a problem, called path exposure with transmission range uncertainty (EXPO-RU) to analyze the exposure of a given path that we want to monitor against unauthorized traversal. The problem calls for quantifying the ability of an EH-WSN to jointly detect and report a traversal along the given path. To assess the reliability of an EH-WSN, we develop an algorithm for computing upper bounds on exact solutions, and present numerical results to analyze its performance.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115887705","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The surging of deep learning brings new vigor and vitality to shape the prospect of intelligent Internet of Things (IoT), and edge intelligence arises to provision real-time deep neural network (DNN) inference services for users. To accelerate the processing of the DNN inference of a request in an MEC network, the DNN inference model usually can be partitioned into two connected parts: one part is processed on the local IoT device of the request; and another part is processed on a cloudlet (server) in the MEC network. Also, the DNN inference can be further accelerated by allocating multiple threads of the cloudlet in which the request is assigned.In this paper, we study a novel delay-aware DNN inference throughput maximization problem with the aim to maximize the number of delay-aware DNN service requests admitted, by accelerating each DNN inference through jointly exploring DNN model partitioning and multi-thread parallelism of DNN inference. To this end, we first show that the problem is NP-hard. We then devise a constant approximation algorithm for it. We finally evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm through experimental simulations. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is promising.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115307341","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To safely navigate the roadways, CAVs rely on sensor readings and data from the surrounding vehicles. Hence, a fault or anomaly arising from the hardware, software, or the network can lead into devastating consequences regarding safety. This study investigates potential performance degradation caused by anomalies, by analyzing real-life vehicles’ sensory and network-related data. The aim is to utilize unsupervised learning for anomaly detection, with a goal to describe the cause and effect of the detected anomalies from a performance perspective. The results show around 93% F1-score when detecting anomalies imposed by the cellular network and the vehicle’s sensors. Moreover, with approximately 90% F1-score we can detect anomalous predictions from a deployed network-related ML model predicting cellular throughput and describe the root-causes behind the detected anomalies.","PeriodicalId":222740,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 46th Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN)","volume":"51 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120999553","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
