Infrastructure growth, expansion of cities and consumption pattern of urban inhabitants are significant having enormous impact on ecosystems and natural resources (especially land, water and biodiversity) within cities as well as far beyond the city boundaries. Growing challenges with respect to sustainability of growing urban sprawls of India and how nutritional security are going to be affected in coming decade has been highlighted in the paper. Urban agriculture (UA) is an important Nature-based Solution that can help the urban locals of growing urban sprawls of the country to reduce pressure on rural and periurban areas for sustainable growth of urban areas. UA is decentralised, local food production system for enhancing urban food production to achieve urban food selfsufficiency. UA framework in Indian context depends on physicaland socio-economic factors responsible for current and future potential of UA. UA has to play a pivotal role in future in urban food security. However, the key challenge is to quantify the current and future potential of UA in sustainable growth of mega-cities. Study highlights knowledge gap and need of proactive policy planning for promoting UA to localise and realise Sustainable development goals, especially SDG 2 and 11.","PeriodicalId":222251,"journal":{"name":"Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128224027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Generation of crop residues from India is around 500 million tons per year out of which around 33.18 million tons per year from Madhya Pradesh itself. In Madhya Pradesh mainly wheat crop residue burnt during month of April and May. Burning of these agricultural crop residues emits a large number of pollutants as well greenhouse gases. However, this study mainly focused on impact of agricultural crop residue burning on climate of a rural area, Indore, India. To study the topic mainly two parameters is considered, CO2 and Temperature. Data were collected for the three period namely before crop residue burning (February March), during crop residue burning (April-May) and after crop residue burning (June-July). Last 10year data (2006–2015) was accessed for the above mentioned three periods for CO2 and temperature with the help of Giovanni web, Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS).Study results show that burning of agricultural crop residues plays an important role in climate change, although its effect is minor. Study also reveals that every year from 2006 to 2015 both CO2 and temperature were high during crop residue burning period than before burning period.","PeriodicalId":222251,"journal":{"name":"Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114573117","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
