Reduced productivity under saline stressed agro-ecosystem holds crucial importance for future rice basket. In this study, we conduct 2 years successive field experiment to examine inoculation effect of salt tolerant plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR)-Curtobacterium albidum strain SRV4 with different dose of farmyard manure (FYM) on soils restoration capacity, crop productivity and the plant antioxidant activity under saline soils. Total four treatments were successfully applied in completely randomised block design (CRBD) in every crop cycles. The treatments were (1) Control (2) SRV4 (3) FYM (50 t ha−1) and (4) FYM (50 t ha−1) + SRV4. The results showed that the amendment of plots with SRV4 inocula and FYM significantly affect soil physicochemical properties and indicates mineral restoration potential of the treatments. Paddy yield components—plant height, tillers, panicles and rice yield-were significantly improved in the both crop cycle. A significant variation was observed in plant antioxidant enzyme-catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POX) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) in 2015 crop cycle and similar trends was noticed in 2016. However, treatment × year interaction was observed insignificant for the plant growth parameters and antioxidant activities in both the years. Regression analysis exhibited significant negative relationship between the paddy plant growth parameters and antioxidant enzyme activities. In conclusion, the application of the FYM amendment with PGPRs may improve the paddy productivity and soil fertility in nutrient poor saline paddy agro-ecosystem of dry tropical regions.","PeriodicalId":222251,"journal":{"name":"Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130593142","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The concern over impacts of climate change is evident in the fact that Goal 13 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) focuses entirely on it. The present communication therefore attempts to highlight the status of Climate Action-related policies in India and their coherence with the SDGs. The National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog has successfully established an initial framework through formulation of schemes and allocation of responsibilities. However, constraints in the form of crosssector policy coherence, absence of definitive national indicators against SDG targets, limited budgetary dispensation and deficiencies in data acquisition hinder the advent of climate smart governance in India. Attainment of a nexus in terms of policy mechanisms among the major drivers of climate change in the Indian context along with stimulation of research activities fostering development of clean technologies would help in effective tackling of climate change-mediated concerns.","PeriodicalId":222251,"journal":{"name":"Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability","volume":"2006 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125836899","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Combining information on the extent to which a human activity takes place, that is, fuel consumption, along with the mass of the carbon dioxide emitted per unit of fuel consumed, the emissions of CO2 from the road transport sector is estimated for a central district in Kerala. The results show that about 9, 60, 830 tonnes CO2 released to the atmosphere from January to December 2016. The emissions from diesel contribute 64% (6, 28, 871 tonnes of CO2), whereas the remaining from Petrol. Seasonal-wise variation in fuel consumption was also observed. Average monthly emission in the summer months was highest whereas the emissions in the monsoon months were lowest. The study clearly shows that the amount of carbon dioxide produced each year is massive and stringent policies and technologies should be adopted to limit the GHG emissions.","PeriodicalId":222251,"journal":{"name":"Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability","volume":"78 6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116986655","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
