It has shown acceptable results for the identification of different actions, such as sleep disorders, epilepsy, and others, and in applications as brain-computer interfaces. However, the selection of short time Fourier transform parameters is not a trivial task, as the variability of these directly affects the resolution spectrogram, from which features are extracted to determine the constructed models in the classification stage. In this paper, experiments for determining STFT parameters such as window type and length, and overlapping are explored. As a case study, an EEG epilepsy database is used to identify healthy people versus patients suffering epileptic seizures, finding that the parameters modify the spectrogram visualization in terms of time/frequency and classification. Based on these experiments, it was concluded that the proposed strategy supports the correct selection of parameters that positively impact the accuracy of the results obtained.","PeriodicalId":220522,"journal":{"name":"Res. The representation of an author’s style is generally obtained by counting the frequency of use of style markers present in a text. For a reliable analysis, it is important to consider the amount of information in the texts in terms of words or sentences. In this research, novels by ten different authors were evaluated using a style marker known as n-grams of four different categories. The set of novels of each author was divided into two stages. Each novel was divided into fragments of different sizes in which the number of sentences gradually decreases. A supervised machine learning algorithm was trained to predict to which of the two stages","PeriodicalId":220522,"journal":{"name":"Res. Comput. Knowledge generation is an important asset of great economic powers, and knowledge societies are a fundamental part in the development of countries. Mexico is a country that is in the process of development and improvement of its education system, according to the Educational Reform promoted since 2012 by the Federal Gov-ernment. We identified an area of opportunity at the undergraduate level to help improve the writing of students, specifically in draft theses and research proposals. This work focuses its efforts on analyzing with natural language processing techniques the ”Methodology” section, an important element for the development of a thesis, that helps the reader to understand if the techniques and data used are appropriate in an investigation. This paper proposes a Model to identify a series of steps in such a section. In addition, preliminary results of a basic exploration of a collected corpus are presented, pre-processing the text to generate a representation according to Language Models. The corpus contains documents of graduate and undergraduate levels in the computer science and information technologies domain. The preliminary results showed that the information extracted from the corpus serves to adequately differentiate the methodologies of both levels.","PeriodicalId":220522,"journal":{"name":"Res. These buildings have as main requirement the navigation of interiors. However, GPS technology, which is used to carry out positioning, it cannot be used within a building because satellite signals do not travel well through solid materials. In this way, sensors, Bluetooth devices, or RFID that are used in smart buildings have been proposed. In this paper, we present an interior navigation proposal, which uses beacons technology and smartphones. Our software application obtains information from the context and generates the best route to reach the destination within an intelligent building. The Dijkstra algorithm was used to process all the information. Hence, our proposal aims to combine different technologies, and adapt developed algorithms to indoor navigation.","PeriodicalId":220522,"journal":{"name":"Res. Comput. Adaptive learning systems are usually not designed to take into account learning disabilities, even if the need for enhancing support of learners with disabilities is more and more important within nowadays society. We first identify the set of learning disabilities to consider in an accessible adaptive learning system; then a content model is proposed integrating the matching abilities and extending a standard to ensure interoperability with existing solutions. Finally, a case study is presented to apply the proposed model in order to identify a learning object designed to support math skills at elementary school.","PeriodicalId":220522,"journal":{"name":"Res. Particularly, CNNs (Convolutional Neural Networks) are one of the most used models for this task. A typical CNN incorporates hundreds of thousands of parameters that must be adjusted in what is known as the training of the network, through the use of large reference training sets. This training represents a high cost in computational time and resources even with the availability of GPUs to do the processing. In this work, an alternative scheme for management of the training data for CNNs is proposed which consists in the selective-adaptive sampling of the data. Through experiments performed on the CIFAR10 dataset for image classification, it is shown that the proposed scheme succeeds in decreasing the training time without significantly sacrificing the performance of the networks.","PeriodicalId":220522,"journal":{"name":"Res. For the study the techniques of Artificial Neural Networks (RNA), Random Forest (RF), Decision Trees and Support Vector Machines (SVM) were used. A binary classification was made with these algorithms. A software was developed for the optimization of hyperparameters. Computational intelligence techniques were used to optimize the number of attributes using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and a classifier based on Neural Networks (NN).
