The failure to heal in PIs is multifactorial such as nutritional status of patients, bacterial load, site of ulcer, risk of contamination and presence of comorbidities. Multidrug-resistant (MDR) Gram-negative bacterial (GNB) infections are frequent occurrence in hospitalised patients with PI. The limited chemotherapeutic options available for treating MDR strains of GNB have forced the reintroduction of the cationic cyclic peptide, polymyxin E (colistin). We report a case series of seven patients of traumatic spinal cord injury with PIs and poor healing due to MDR GNB sensitive only to colistin. In view of the worsening condition of the PIs and financial constraints, it was decided to start colistin therapy locally by colistimethate sodium. All patients responded well to the treatment and got clinically better. In our study, we used the Pressure Ulcer Scale for Healing score, Functional Independence Measure and World Health Organization Quality of Life Brief Version score to measure the outcome. We found this novel dressing a very promising and cost-effective treatment option in achieving infection-free healing, especially against MDR strains of bacteria.","PeriodicalId":220492,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation","volume":"99 1","pages":"128 - 132"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139345189","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the majority of instances, they result from a concomitant glenoid labrum tear and entrap the suprascapular nerve. Here, we describe the case of a 35-year-old male who experienced persistent pain in his right shoulder during overhead abduction and lateral rotation. Although the majority of the literature on the subject recommends surgical removal, our patient's condition significantly improved following an ultrasound-guided suprascapular nerve block and following the aspiration of cystic fluid.","PeriodicalId":220492,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation","volume":"92 1","pages":"152 - 154"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139344547","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Lifesaving assistance such as endotracheal intubation is commonly used. Although vocal cord paralysis during orotracheal intubation is uncommon, it can have catastrophic implications. Very little evidence is available on rehabilitation interventions that combine music therapy, technology devices and audio-visual (AV) aids. In patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and cervical spinal cord injury who have vocal cord paralysis, the use of music therapy technology devices and AV aids for rehabilitation needs to be thoroughly tested with goal-oriented, targeted strategies intended to achieve a particular function or skill set. Using technology devices and AV aids help with cognition and communication. Music therapy might be regarded as just as beneficial as speech therapy in enhancing cognitive function. We report a case of a 4-year-old female child with TBI with cervical cord contusion with bilateral vocal cord paralysis successfully rehabilitation along with the incorporation of music therapy, technology devices and AV aids in the rehabilitation programme.","PeriodicalId":220492,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation","volume":"19 1","pages":"146 - 151"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139346816","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

India responded with a complete lockdown. Simultaneously, the release of the Indian National Telemedicine Practice Guidelines led to a surge in telemedicine. The authors share their experience of launching an indigenous telerehabilitation service, a largely unexplored area in India. Aims: This study aimed to determine the socioclinical characteristics of the population availing telerehabilitation. Settings and Design: A retrospective chart review was done in a physiatrist-led neurorehabilitation department of a unispeciality tertiary care hospital. Subjects and Methods: Before the launch, a strategic promotional campaign was designed. Consent forms were structured following the national guidelines with institutional modifications. A combination of the 'real-time' and 'store-and-transfer' models was used. Teleconsultation by a physiatrist was followed by telerehabilitation by therapists. Satisfaction scales were used for feedback. Statistical Analysis Used: Data are described as frequency and percentages for qualitative data. Results: Between 8 April 2020 and 30 September 2020, there were 561 teleconsultations, of which 224 patients consulted the physiatrist. Stroke (46 patients, 20.53%), low back pain (40 patients, 17.85%) and spinal cord injury (27 patients, 12.05%) were the most common diagnosis. A majority of 93 patients belonged to the age group of 40–60 years. A comparable number of patients within and outside the city availed of the service. Conclusions: Telerehabilitation with simply available resources is feasible and useful. The digital divide, security concerns and restrictions in the execution of treatment are its imitations. Technology and creativity can be combined to develop further viable telerehabilitation models.","PeriodicalId":220492,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation","volume":"61 1","pages":"117 - 122"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139345795","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Soft-tissue structures and joints of the human body are often assessed by ultrasonography. It offers higher-resolution images and ease of access in resource-limited settings compared to magnetic resonance imaging. In this technical review, we have tried to simplify the approach to the ultrasonographical evaluation of the elbow anatomy. The elbow joint needs to be visualised in four compartments – anterior, posterior, medial and lateral. The structures to be seen, respectively, and the manner in which they are to be examined have been described here in detail.","PeriodicalId":220492,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation","volume":"4 1","pages":"109 - 114"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139343658","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here we describe four cases of chronic ulcers progressing to malignant transformation with four completely different scenario and injury pattern. First case was a 41 years old male who presented with 24 years old complete traumatic paraplegia with ulcer as fungating mass at outer inferior quadrant of left gluteal region. The second case was a 15 year old traumatic knee injury with open wound which resulted in insensate foot and chronic osteomyelitis with recurrent ulcer with transformation to malignant ulcer. Third case is again 12 years old recurrent wound due to crush injury and osteomyelitis in the involved lower limb and last 57 years old case is different from the others, developed chronic wound from a minor cut without any specific precipitating factor which finally resulted in to marjolin's ulcer. All the cases highlight the progression of chronic ulcer in to marjolin's ulcer which is a very rare but deadly complication of recurrent or non-healing type of ulcers.","PeriodicalId":220492,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation","volume":"4 1","pages":"141 - 145"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139345661","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
