The technique, which differs significantly from existing methods, makes use of a multi-feed threeport ring. The circuitry is simple and provides inherent stabilization in addition to frequency control. Measurements at X-band have been made to validate the technique, which has also been established through computer simulation.","PeriodicalId":219101,"journal":{"name":"1996 26th European Microwave Conference","volume":"159 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123417853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using a conventional small-signal equivalent circuit, we characterized the HEMT's S-parameters measured at various bias settings, and obtained the bias-dependent values of the equivalent circuit elements. Through experiments, we found that a 5-layered neural network (composed of 28 neurons) is adequate to represent 7 bias-dependent intrinsic elements simultaneously. It is shown that it is possible to obtain very wideband operation or two separate frequency bands of operation by using two helical antennas attached on the top edges of the conducting case of a handset. The presence of the second antenna has relatively small effect on the operation. If one of the single helical antennas is replaced with two helical antennas one within the other three separate frequency bands of operation can be obtained.","PeriodicalId":219101,"journal":{"name":"1996 26th European Microwave Conference","volume":"16 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120971440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The algorithm is extended to accomplish numerical, as well as analytical, models of lumped devices. Device behavior can thus by directly linked to technological parameter, without requiring the formulation and characterization of an equivalent circuit. Application of numerical and analytical lumped device models to the analysis of small-size electronic circuits are discussed. The practicality of LE-FDTD approach for TCAD circuit optimization is thus demonstrated.","PeriodicalId":219101,"journal":{"name":"1996 26th European Microwave Conference","volume":"120 3-4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132063982","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The evaluation of the results shows the superiority of the flip chip mounting technology. To demonstrate the gain on system performance, two 51 GHz transmitter/receiver modules were realized, one in flip chip and one in wire bond technology. In the flip chip version the low noise amplifier (LNA) and the transmitter chip are directly flip chip mounted on the back structure of a planar patch antenna. In the wire bond version the chips were mounted on one edge of the planar patch antenna to achieve shortest wire bond connections possible. RF-evaluations show the clear advantage of the flip chip version, where a system gain of more than 7 dB could be achieved in comparison to the wire bond version. Further advantages of flip chip mounting technology are a higher reproducibility and an enhanced flexibility for design and construction. In case of transceiver modules, this higher flexibility enables to reduce the length of the feedline drastically in the flip chip version by mounting the MMICs directly on the back structure of the planar patch antenna again leading to reduced losses. The technology used for flip chip assembling consists of a substrate bumping process by Au microplating and a Au/Au-thermocompression bonding process for mounting of the MMICs.","PeriodicalId":219101,"journal":{"name":"1996 26th European Microwave Conference","volume":"125 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116527297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this analysis, a Generalized Effective Dielectric Constant Method is applied with some modification. The disk resonator is considered to be decomposed into two-dimensional slab waveguides and a cylindrical dielectric rod resonator. A concept of an effective dielectric constant and a caustic radius are newly introduced to obtain the eigenvalues of Whispering Gallery Modes. As a result of comparison with numerical eigenvalues and experimental ones, it is found that this analytical method is useful even so the dielectric disk resonator has a high dielectric constant.","PeriodicalId":219101,"journal":{"name":"1996 26th European Microwave Conference","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133543805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
