Valente","doi":"10.22323/1.398.0878","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.22323/1.398.0878","url":null,"abstract":"The SHERPA project aim is to develop an efficient technique for extracting a positron beam from one of the accelerator rings composing the DA Φ NE accelerator complex at the Frascati National Laboratory of INFN, setting up a new beam line delivering positron spills of O(ms) length, excellent beam energy spread and emittance. The main idea is to use coherent processes in bent crystals to slowly kick out positrons from the ring, a cheaper and less complex alternative. This non-resonant technique, already successfully used and still developed mainly in hadron accelerators, will provide a continuous multi-turn extraction of a high quality beam. In this manuscript will be given an overview of the whole experiment, describing in particular the crystal extraction principle, the accelerator optics studies, the crystal prototype and its characterisation apparatus. Schmidt","doi":"10.22323/1.398.0397","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.22323/1.398.0397","url":null,"abstract":"Recently studies of the heavy J/ψ and D-mesons by ALICE and STAR collaborations revealed a pronounced dependence of the cross-section on multiplicity of co-produced charged particles, and one of the possible explanations of this phenomenon is the enhanced contribution of multipomeron configurations. In this talk we present our theoretical results for the production of P-wave quarkonia (χ_c and χ_b mesons) in protonproton collisions. We expect that, due to different quantum numbers, the χ_c and χ_b meson production cross-section does not get contributions from 3-pomeron fusion, and for this reason the multiplicity dependence of the cross-section should be significantly milder than that of J/ψ and D-mesons. We expect that the experimental confirmation of this result could constitute an important test of our understanding of multiplicity enhancement mechanisms in the production of different quarkonia states. We also present detailed production cross-sections in kinematics of ongoing experiments at LHC and RHIC. The detector readout electronics will be upgraded to allow a maximum L1 output rate of 750 kHz, and a latency of 12.5 μs. The upgraded system will be entirely running on commercial FPGA processors and should greatly extend the capabilities of the current system, being able to maintain trigger thresholds despite the harsh environment as well as trigger on more exotic signatures such as long-lived particles to extend the physics coverage. The function of the muon trigger is to identify muon tracks in the experiment and measure their momenta and other parameters for use in the global trigger menu. In addition to the muon detector upgrades that include improved electronics and new sub-detectors, the presence of a L1 track finder in CMS will bring some of the offline muon reconstruction capability to the L1 trigger, delivering unprecedented reconstruction and identification performance. This shift is of the right magnitude to be consistent with the Brookhaven measurement as well as the recent Fermilab measurement of the muon 6 − 2. Thus, it provides the most minimal and standalone framework to solve the decades-old neutrino mass-magnetic moment puzzle and which simultaneously addresses three shortcomings of the SM (a) neutrino mass generation, (b) large neutrinomagnetic moment (in order to address the Xenon1T anomaly) and (c) muon 6−2 anomaly. This is pointing out the direct correlation between the magnetic moment of SM charged lepton and neutral lepton (neutrino) by showing that the measurement of muon 6 − 2 by the Fermilab experiment can be an in-direct and novel test of the neutrino magnetic-moment hypothesis, which can be as sensitive as other ongoing-neutrino/dark matter experiments. Such a correlation between muon 6 − 2 and the neutrino magnetic moment is generic in models employing leptonic family symmetry to explain a naturally large neutrino magnetic moment. This talk is based on results obtained with K.S.
