{"title":"Charm cross section and fragmentation fractions in pp collisions with ALICE (12'+3')","authors":"L. Dello Stritto","doi":"10.22323/1.398.0380","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.22323/1.398.0380","url":null,"abstract":"In this contribution, the latest Λ + c , Ξ 0c and the first Ξ + c , Σ 0 , ++ c and Ω 0c baryon measurements performed with the ALICE detector at midrapidity in proton–proton collisions at √ 𝑠 = 5 . 02 TeV and 13 TeV at the LHC are presented. Recent measurements of baryon-to-meson cross-section ratios at midrapidity show significantly higher results than in e + e − and ep collisions, suggesting that the fragmentation of charm is not universal across different collision systems. Thus, measurements of charm-baryon production are crucial to study the charm-quark hadronisation in pp collisions and the possible difference with respect to e + e − and ep collisions. In addition, the baryon-production measurements were essential for the measurement of the c¯c production cross section performed by ALICE at midrapidity in pp collisions and also presented in this contribution. Furthermore, the new preliminary measurement of the Λ + c /D 0 ratio in 0 ≤ 𝑝 T < 1 GeV / 𝑐 in p–Pb collisions will be discussed. The measurement of charm baryons in proton–nucleus collisions provides important information about Cold Nuclear Matter (CNM) effects. It also helps to understand how the possible presence of collective effects could modify the production of heavy-flavour hadrons and to interpret the similarities observed among pp, proton–nucleus and nucleus–nucleus systems.","PeriodicalId":218352,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The European Physical Society Conference on High Energy Physics — PoS(EPS-HEP2021)","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127646465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Measurements of net-charge fluctuations across various colliding systems with ALICE 用ALICE测量不同碰撞系统的净电荷波动

{"title":"Measurements of net-charge fluctuations across various colliding systems with ALICE","authors":"Shaista Khan","doi":"10.22323/1.398.0319","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.22323/1.398.0319","url":null,"abstract":"Event-by-event fluctuations of conserved quantities such as electric charge, baryon number, and strangeness in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions provide insight into the properties of the quark– gluon plasma and the QCD phase diagram. The net-charge fluctuations in finite phase space are usually studied using the νdyn[+,−] observable, which is robust against the detection efficiency losses. This observable becomes equivalent to the strongly intensive quantity Σ with the proper scaling. In this analysis, the values of νdyn[+,−] are obtained with ALICE detector in various colliding systems, namely, pp at √ s=5.02 TeV, p–Pb at sNN=5.02 TeV, and Pb–Pb at √ sNN=2.76 and 5.02 TeV, and Xe–Xe at sNN=5.44 TeV. The observed dependence of νdyn[+,−] on chargedparticle density shows a regular smooth evolution of net-charge fluctuation from smaller to larger collision systems. Furthermore, the observed negative values of νdyn[+,−] indicate the dominance of correlation between the oppositely charged particle pairs as compared to that arising from the like-sign charge pairs. These findings are compared to predictions from HIJING, EPOS-LHC, and PYTHIA8 models. The effect of the kinematical acceptance has also been investigated by examining the νdyn[+,−] dependence on transverse momentum range as well as the width of the pseudorapidity window. The effect of the hadronic resonance decays is also looked into by comparing the experimental findings with the predictions of HIJING model.","PeriodicalId":218352,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The European Physical Society Conference on High Energy Physics — PoS(EPS-HEP2021)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129720187","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The resulting, unprecedented requirements for background monitoring and luminosity measurement create the need for new high-precision instrumentation at the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment, using radiation-hard detectors. This contribution presents the strategy for bunch-by-bunch online luminosity measurement based on various detector technologies. The potential of the exploitation of the tracker endcap pixel detector, the outer tracker, the barrel muon detectors and the 40 MHz muon scouting system is discussed together with the concept of a standalone luminosity and beam-induced background monitor using Si-pad sensors.","PeriodicalId":218352,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The European Physical Society Conference on High Energy Physics — PoS(EPS-HEP2021)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128161006","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Time-of-Propagation (TOP) detector was integrated into the Belle II detector for charged particle identification in the barrel region. The TOP detector mainly consists of quartz radiators, Micro-Channel-Plate (MCP) PMTs, and front-end electronics. It reconstructs a ring image of Cherenkov photons generated by an incident particle. It measures the timing of each detected photon with an accuracy of less than 100 ps for good /c separation. In the operation of the TOP detector, harsh beam-induced background in the high luminosity environment is one of the critical issues to keep the particle identification performance. We developed various tools to monitor MCP-PMT performance and to identify and fix errors arising from front-end electronics during data taking. The TOP detector provides 85% identification efficiency at a 10% c misidentification rate in the data at the early stage of the experiment. In these proceedings, we present the operation status and the performance by the summer of 2021.","PeriodicalId":218352,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The European Physical Society Conference on High Energy Physics — PoS(EPS-HEP2021)","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122898535","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
