Most of the offshore wind farms have MVAC (Medium voltage Alternating Current) distribution system. In this paper proposed MVDC (Medium Voltage Direct Current) distribution system is compared with its equivalent MVAC distribution system in terms of energy production cost. To determine energy production cost and total investment, loss and cost models for the components in the offshore wind farm distribution systems are required. In this paper detailed energy production cost analysis of 80 MW of offshore wind farm distribution system having MVAC and MVDC distribution system is investigated and comparison is done using MATLAB programming.","PeriodicalId":217916,"journal":{"name":"2017 Asian Conference on Energy, Power and Transportation Electrification (ACEPT)","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131299857","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In 1st stage of charging, the DAB controller is modified to allow variable duty cycle control of medium voltage side DAB converter. In this stage, a constant charging-up current is applied so that low voltage side DC link voltage is charged up linearly. In the 2nd stage of charging control, the normal dual voltage and current control loops are applied. At the end of 2nd charging up stage, the DAB controller is ready for normal power regulation. The proposed DAB charging control method is applicable for modular SST start-up application for both grid tied and standalone application. The important advantage of the proposed DAB charging control method is that the DC-DC converter performance is robust to DC-DC converter circuit parameter variation and operation condition variation among DAB modules. Another attractive advantage is that the proposed solution is purely DAB control algorithm change without requiring extra circuit component in start-up charging process.","PeriodicalId":217916,"journal":{"name":"2017 Asian Conference on Energy, Power and Transportation Electrification (ACEPT)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131559182","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By introducing hysteresis to sub-optimal algorit hm, the switching frequency of the converter is limited when the output voltage is stable. In the Simulink, the first-order sliding-mode and second-order sliding-mode controller are actualized by using the state machine, the simulation test and verify the start-up performance and steady-state behavior and the robust against the large load disturbance jump from 10A to 20A and the power disturbance jump from 5V to 10V. The basic APC is able to limit the range of voltage fluctuation at the point of connection with a negligible loss of energy production. In addition, the paper proposed an analysis using complex-power-flow theory in the situation of short-distance connection between PV system and grid feed-in point. It provided an effective view of observing and understanding the changing trends between active power and grid voltage at the point of connection. Understanding electricity consumption behaviors is one of the key elements for utilities to design more cost-effective DR programs. So studying on the AC electricity usage habits is of great significance to make full use of AC DR resources. In order to analyze the residential AC electricity consumption behaviors, a recognition model is proposed in this paper. First, the duty cycle curves (DCCs) are generated using non-intrusive load disaggregation (NILD) results drawn from the AC operating data. Second, those customers rarely using AC are identified and separated from the data set, meanwhile the remaining customers are classified into irregular and regular customers based on a density index. Third, k-means clustering is utilized to group regular customers into different clusters based on their typical duty cycle curves (TDCCs). Based on the clustering results, AC usage behaviors of customers in each cluster are analyzed. Finally, the effects of varies NILD accuracies on clustering results are taken into consideration, and the analysis results demonstrate that the recognition model is still feasible under the existing NILD algorithm precisions.","PeriodicalId":217916,"journal":{"name":"2017 Asian Conference on Energy, Power and Transportation Electrification (ACEPT)","volume":"36 6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134160738","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Accordingly, wind turbine blades are gradually undergoing changes in design and geometry to make them more efficient. Tropical wind turbines require a different design structure due to the fact that wind speeds are low and turbine rotors cannot increase in size infinitely which would cause inertial problems. Hence a lightweight and sustainable solution could be found in natural fibre reinforced composites. In this study, epoxy resin is reinforced with flax fibre plain weave and twill weave fabrics (textile structure) using vacuum infusion method. Tensile testing of the natural fabric reinforced epoxy composites is performed according to ASTM D3039 standards. It is found that these composites are considerably weaker than Glass fibre reinforced epoxy composites (GFRPs). Thus, they may be used to manufacture non-load-bearing members of a wind turbine blade, which do not require stiffness comparable to glass or carbon fibre reinforced composites. Poor fibre-resin adhesion and the presence of voids have been observed as possible reasons for the reduced stiffness of the tested specimens. Future work includes testing of flexural strength, fatigue behaviour, etc. Depending on the results, other plant fibres laminated with thermoplastic/thermoset resins will be studied for comparison and the most suitable materials will be chosen for our wind turbine blade design.","PeriodicalId":217916,"journal":{"name":"2017 Asian Conference on Energy, Power and Transportation Electrification (ACEPT)","volume":"192 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134338661","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
