The mandatory regulations in the International Maritime Organization (IMO) requirements require recording voyage data to assist in accident investigations. However, most intra-communication devices in a ship are built based on wired communication, such as Ethernet, which causes problems with initial installation cost and scalability. Internet of Things (IoT) technology interconnects many sensor nodes to collect data and allows them to be used intelligently. Considering wireless sensor networks for IoT in a ship, techniques to reduce the energy consumption of distributed devices and extend communication coverage are significant issues to collect various data in a ship and ensure the accuracy of the collected data. The long-range wide area network (LoRaWAN) protocol for IoT was introduced as a promising solution for IoT because it is a data link layer with a long range, low power, and suitable bit rate for IoT applications. This paper discusses the suitability of the LoRaWAN protocol as a potential networking strategy for ships and proposes its use cases for data-driven vessel management.","PeriodicalId":217894,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Marine Engineering and Technology","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115147324","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, recently, the UK navy has decided to increase the number of diesel engine generators from two to three. Based on this, the ROK navy is also considering the number of diesel engine generators for the next destroyer. In this research, when the propulsion system of destroyers currently operated by the ROK navy was configured based on IFEP, the changes in the fuel consumption owing to the number of diesel engine generators and operation strategies were calculated, and the effect on economic efficiency was obtained. We also examined whether the created economic efficiency could offset the space and weight required for an additional diesel engine generator. In this process, instead of the simple operation profile of the vessel presented in the initial required process of the vessel, the actual operation profiles for a year of three target destroyers were investigated and applied to the research to complement reality. As a result of the calculation, it was confirmed that, under the specified conditions examined, installing three diesel engine generators would produce an excellent economic effect. The effect remains even if the space and weight requirements owing to the increased number of diesel engine generators are offset. From the viewpoint of the operation strategies of the diesel engine generators, it is necessary for the diesel engine generators to take charge of the low load power range of the vessel and to have a rest period in the medium - high load power range.","PeriodicalId":217894,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Marine Engineering and Technology","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128534972","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Lightweight design that influences the fuel efficiency of vehicles has become an essential consideration due to the use of exhaust gas reduction systems. The early lightweight design started as a concept of replacing steel materials with aluminum or ultrahigh tensile steel. However, bi-metals with high strength and light weight are now being designed and developed instead of single materials. For bonding of bi-metal sheets, the self-piercing riveting method is being generally applied to double sheets with an upper high-tensile steel plate and a lower aluminum alloy plate. However, there is insufficient research to solve the problem of the costs of power consumption and consumable parts and low bonding strength of the joint due to the potential corrosion of parts that occur in the rivet joint. This study proposed a new self-piercing riveting method after punching (SPRP) method that can prevent the reduction of bonding force of the rivet joint and minimize the stress and forming load required for bonding. Furthermore, the possibility of rivet bonding with corrosion resistance and bonding force was proved through experiment and analysis.","PeriodicalId":217894,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Marine Engineering and Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129173527","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A newly designed annular centrifugal contactor (ACC) with a funnel–type weir zone was investigated numerically to analyze the flow fields and separation performance of two liquids with slight density differences, such as palm oil and water. Ansys CFX was used to simulate unsteady, turbulent, multiphase flows in the ACC. The simulation was performed using the Eulerian–Eulerian method, in which a homogeneous k–ɛ turbulence model with a scalable wall function is used. The sliding mesh method was adopted to solve the rotational effect of the stator rotor. A detailed parametric analysis of mixing and separation based on the liquid density difference, angular velocity, and inlet velocity of the mixture variations was performed. The oil quality and separation efficiency were calculated at the oil outlet to analyze the performance of the ACC rotor. The results show that oil quality increases with increasing angular and inlet velocities but decreases with an increasing liquid density difference. Moreover, the oil separation efficiency decreases with increasing angular and inlet velocities but increases with an increasing liquid density difference. Maximum oil quality and separation efficiencies of approximately 99% and 79%, respectively, were obtained at the oil outlet. Finally, it can be concluded that the two liquids with a slight density difference can be adequately separated using the newly designed ACC.","PeriodicalId":217894,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Marine Engineering and Technology","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133493298","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
