This chapter covers the SWPBIS model with particular attention to the potential of peers to be utilized in reducing the disproportionate discipline practices seen with various populations. This chapter includes practical recommendations for implementing SWPBIS and considerations of diversity and equity.","PeriodicalId":217466,"journal":{"name":"Peers as Change Agents","volume":"272 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122471872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The chapter also positions peer-mediated interventions as relevant to the development of children and highlights the value and usefulness of identifying the behaviors the intervention is targeting and then emphasizing the importance of the peer’s role. This chapter also discusses the research supporting the effectiveness of peers as interventionists, indicating that they can be reliably trained to carry out interventions in schools.","PeriodicalId":217466,"journal":{"name":"Peers as Change Agents","volume":"62 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123683961","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Common peer-mediated strategies in classroom management include establishing rules and classroom procedures, setting routines, and maintaining a positive classroom climate. Interventions such as the Color Wheel System can be helpful in establishing classroom expectations. This chapter discusses the use of classroom management strategies in schools, with a focus on strategies that can leverage peer influence to promote positive outcomes. This chapter also includes considerations of diversity and equity in classroom management interventions.","PeriodicalId":217466,"journal":{"name":"Peers as Change Agents","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134136960","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
