The method is superior in a case that the boundary conditions have many frequency components, while requires a computation of unsteady friction terms. The unsteady friction terms include convolution integral of which calculation is time-consuming. Reduction of the computation load with maintenance of its accuracy, which is essential for a practical computation, requires a weighting function-based (WFB) approximation which approximates the weighting functions by sums of exponential terms, and of convolution integrals. However, even the WFB model contains approximation errors which sometimes cause computation error. The approximation errors in liquid pipeline have been evaluated in Fourier domain. However, the errors in gas pipeline have not been evaluated. In this paper, we present a discussion and quantification of the numerical errors that occur when using the method for the simulation of small amplitude wave in gas pipeline. By controlling the hand-rims of the wheelchair, the operator can re-create traveling and turning motion in a virtual reality environment. The position and attitude of the wheelchair are presented to the operator with the motion of a six-axis motion base. Through a head-mounted display, a computer graphics system provides the operator with scenery that changes in accordance with the operation. To study barrier-free transportation by ship, the ship’s motion was re-created in a virtual reality environment, and the operational ability of the wheelchair was compared between the cases with and without the motion. The valve uses a piezoelectric oscillator which is driven in the resonance and the valve’s features are simple structure, lightweight and high flow rate / weight. The valve can control flow rate by controlling the voltage amplitude. In this report, we used the valve to control the speed of pneumatic cylinder. We measured response time of the vale that is important parameter for servo system. And we evaluated characteristics of the meter-out circuit using the valve and we compared with using a general speed controller. Additionally, we performed experiments to switch cylinder speed when the cylinder piston comes near the stopping end. In this method, because the weight of the stage is supported by the pneumatic pressure of the balancing cylinder, the linear motor can drive the stage motion without so much affected by the weight of the stage. Therefore, lower electric energy consumption, less heat generation, higher power and speed, can be expected with the linear motor. However, hybrid electric-pneumatic ultra-precision vertical positioning device has a drawback. When the tool change occurs, the total weight of the stage changes. Then the pressure in the balancing cylinder should be adjusted accordingly. But the pressure adjustment takes a bit of time with the conventional method that uses a diaphragm type pressure regulator. In this paper, in order to enhance the performance of the hybrid electric-pneumatic ultra-precision vertical positioning device, a new pressure adjustment method in the balancing cylinder when the tool change occurred is proposed. The proposed method utilizes a feed-forward control and a high precision quick response pneumatic regulator (HPQR) that was developed in our previous research. This paper examines a direct flow control system of PS for a commercial vehicle by using an AC-servo motor drive hydraulic-pump without a conventional 4-way valve. It assists the sector-gear hydraulic piston-force according to the difference of handle and steering angles through a torque sensor. This system can easily replace a conventional IPS or integrated hydraulic PS, and can also vary the handle operating torque continuously by such as vehicle speed signals. Its steady state characteristics, step response are measured and their stability is analyzed. In this study, method of estimating fl uid transients by combining a steady-state Kalman fi lter and an optimized fi nite element model of pipeline dynamics is proposed. In this method, fl uid transients can be estimated without accurate setting of initial conditions. Moreover, not only the fl ow rate but also the pressure in a pipe can be estimated by the Kalman fi lter. In this paper, fl uid transients in a pipe were estimated off -line by using experimental values in order to show basic performance of the Kalman fi lter. In this off -line estimation, estimation results show good agreement with experimental results. Moreover, it was confi rmed that the error between the estimation value and the measured value was decreased by the Kalman fi lter when the initial value was not set accurately. In addition, covariances of sensor noise and system noise, which are parameters of the Kalman fi lter, were investigated. For comparison, an off -line remote measurement method for unsteady fl ow and the method of characteristics were applied to the same data. The system consists of an excavator as the construction robot, and two joysticks for operating the robot from a remote place . A fork glove is equipped with the front end of the excavator as a hand for grasping task objects . The master and the slave in this system correspond to, respectively, the fork glove and the joysticks controlled by an operator . In such a remote control system, the operator needs to feel a realistic sense of task force which is brought about from a feedback force of the fork glove . In order to attain an effective feedback of the task force , in the previous report of this study, a control method called a variable-gain symmetric-position was proposed. After that , however, a weak point was found in this method. Namely, the operator was not able to feel a realistic sense of the task force when he was grasping a soft object in comparatively a slow velocity. Usually, we have to measure the contract ratio of PARM using a displacement sensor installed near the actuator, which is not preferable from the aspect of preventing dust and water. In this paper, we propose a method of estimating contraction force from the volume change of the PARM, which makes it possible to have a sensor-less actuator. The air charged to and discharged from the PARM is measured by a quick response laminar fl ow meter. The volume of the PARM is estimated from the fl ow rate and the pressure measured by a pressure sensor. In order to estimate the contraction force accurately, thin copper wires are stuff ed in to the PARM to realize an almost isothermal condition during charge and discharge. We developed a differential pressure type leak tester, modified the circuit and investigated its characteristics. In the previous differential type air leak tester, the temperature recovery time was set to be constant for various test pressures and volumes. We found that different test pressure and volume required a different temperature recovery time to obtain the expected repeatability and accuracy. Detailed investigation showed that the higher the test pressure and the bigger the volume, the longer temperature recovery time was required to obtain the expected repeatability and accuracy. We also demonstrated the effect of temperature recovery time on repeatability by comparing the normal chamber and copper wire stuffed isothermal chamber. As a cushion mechanism, a cushion-plunger type is studied. Annular clearance around the cushion plunger is modeled by a series connection of annular-flow sub-models. By use of the cushion model, diameter distribution of the plunger can be designed so that piston velocity follows a pre-specified velocity profile as close as possible. Applying the optimum design technique, a cushion plunger was manufactured and was installed in a cylinder. As results of experiments on a test bench, the simulated results of piston velocity showed a good agreement with a pre-specified velocity profile.
