The elevated levels of IL-6 and IL-8 in saliva are a result of their overproduction in the cancer microenvironment. The production of salivary cytokines, particularly IL-6 and IL-8, has a role in cancer development. These cytokines may also be used as biomarkers. The use of saliva as a biomarker is quite interesting because it is in direct contact with cancer cells, easy to access, non-invasive, and cost-effective. Aim: The aim of this literature review was to assess the potential of salivary IL-6 and IL-8 as biomarkers for OSCC early diagnosis. Review: The initiation of carcinogenesis in the oral cavity is actively repressed by inflammation and cell-mediated immunity. IL-6 and IL-8 are two important molecules involved in stromal-to-cancer cell communication. These cytokines play a major part in the growth, progression, metastasis, and recurrence of OSCC. Several studies have found that OSCC patients have higher levels of salivary IL-6 and IL-8 than healthy people and patients with an oral potentially malignant disorder (OPMD). Conclusion: Salivary IL-6 and IL-8 are very promising potential biomarkers for the early diagnosis of OSCC. Objective. This study aims to synthesize alumina silica (Al2O3-SiO2) fillers using sol gel method with the additives agent chitosan 5%, 10% and polyethylene glycol (PEG) 5% to produce micro particle size and evenly distributed particle as filler dental composite. Methods. The type of research is descriptive explorative. The sol-gel process was utilized to synthesize filler particles of Al2O3-SiO2. TEOS was dissolved in ethanol and mixed with acetic acid as catalyts. Al2(NO3)3 was added into the solution and mixed homogenously. Subsequently, the additive agents (Chitosan 5%, chitosan 10% and PEG) were mixed into the mixture for 30 minutes. Drying the samples for 48 hours at 60°C in the oven. The Dynamic light scattering (DLS) SZ-1 was used to evaluate the size, particle distribution and zeta potential. Result. The results showed that the addition of chitosan 10% produced a smaller size of Al2O3-SiO2 compared to other samples. A homogeneous particle distribution is shown in the sample with PEG 5%. Meanwhile, zeta potential values of the filler particles Al2O3-SiO2 with the addition of chitosan 10% shows the biggest value. OSCC-associated HPV is often detected at an advanced stage due to the low knowledge of dentists about early detection. A good level of knowledge among dentists will help reduce the incidence of OSCC- associated HPV cases. This study aims to determine the level of knowledge of general dentists in Medan City regarding the role of HPV in OSCC, clinical aspects, prognosis, preventive measures for OSCC- associated HPV, and the availability of HPV vaccines in Indonesia. Method: This research is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach; the number of respondents is 99 general dentists in Medan City. The data was collected using an online questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out descriptively and calculated in terms of frequency and percentage through SPSS. Result: The results showed that among the 99 respondents, the level of knowledge about the role of HPV in OSCC was good (98%). The level of knowledge regarding the clinical aspects of OSCC-associated HPV is good (64.6%). The level of knowledge regarding the prognosis of OSCC-associated HPV is adequate (70.7%). The level of knowledge regarding OSCC- associated HPV preventive action is good (79.8%). The level of knowledge regarding the availability of the HPV vaccine in Indonesia is good (67.7%).
