The electrode was constructed by mixing iron (III) oxide, oxidized graphite and wax that was put over silver disc onto a polypropylene rod. The response of the electrode was investigated by measuring electrode potential as a function of pH.The effect of composition of the electrode material (Fe2O3 and oxidized graphite ration) on the electrode response was investigated. The electrode with 40% Fe2O3, 30% graphite and 30% wax by mass was found to give the best potentiometric response. This electrode behaves in Nernstian manner with a potentiometric gradient of 56.6±0.4 mV per unit change in pH at 25?C within the working range of pH 2-9.The electrode was also used for the end-point detection in potentiometric acid-base titrations and found to be an excellent electrode for pH-metric titration. The effect of oxidation of electrode on pH response was investigated by dipping electrode in 0.1N KMnO4, 1:1HNO3 and 0.1N Ce4+ solutions for different interval of time. This treatment of the electrode with oxidizing agents increased the standard electrode potential of the electrode however potential gradient per unit change in pH remains unaltered. Low cost, quick response and easy to prepare are the advantages of the iron oxide - graphite composite electrode as a pH sensor. However some metal ions and oxidising agents interfered in the determination of pH using this electrode which is the limitation of using these electrodes. The results showed sharp increase in conductance with increase in concentration of sodium dodecylsulfate. Also, the conductance increases with addition of salts. The conductance of sodium dodecylsulfate is found more in the presence of Na2SO4 than ZnSO4 in aqueous media. In the presence of salts, the critical micelle concentration (cmc) value decreases which are explained on the basis of the nature and ion size of the added ion. The graph of conductance versus concentration is used in determining the critical micelle concentration (cmc). Bismuth nitrate (Bi(NO3)3.5H2O) and sodium tungstate (Na2WO4.2H2O) are used as a starting material for the preparation of nano materials and solution pH was maintained to 3. The prepared material was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) to study the phase state, whereas surface morphology was observed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The surface area was determined by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method. The results revealed that materials are crystalline in nature having crystallite size of ~ 24 nm with surface area of 6.5 m2/g. SEM image of prepared materials showed a unique discrete hierarchical morphology. The prepared material showed visible light active photocatalytic nature for the decomposition of Rhodamine B. The concentration dependent thermodynamic functions (free energy of mixing, enthalpy of mixing, entropy of mixing and activity coefficient of the component), structural functions (concentration fluctuation in the long wavelength limit and chemical short range order parameter), transport properties (diffusivity and viscosity) and surface properties (surface segregation and surface tension) have got special attention to show a tendency of homo-coordination of atom in the mixture. The theoretical analysis reveals that input parameter, order energy is temperature dependent and Al-Ga alloys is of weakly interacting system. Nickel sulfamate bath was used along with grain modifier saccharine and cationic surfactant cetyltrimetylammonium bromide (CTAB). The effect of stirring rate was systematically studied and optimized to get well dispersed SiC particles in appropriate amount. Mixed crystalline phase with reinforced [2 1 1] crystal orientation was obtained by XRD analysis. The result revealed that, 250 revolutions per minute (rpm) is optimum stirring rate for the electrochemical codeposition of Ni–SiC. Coating prepared at 250 rpm showed highest microhardness and lowest coefficient of friction with better surface morphology and well distributed nano SiC particles. Pokhrel","doi":"10.3126/SW.V11I11.9139","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.3126/SW.V11I11.9139","url":null,"abstract":"A simple and sensitive spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of phosphate in mg per liter (parts per million) concentration range in sugarcane juice, water, fertilizer and detergent samples. The amount of phosphate is determined by molybdenum blue phosphorus method in conjugation with UV-visible spectrophotometer. This method is based on the formation of phosphomolybdate complex with the added molybdate followed by the reduction of the complex with hydrazine hydrate in aqueous sulphuric acid medium. The system obeys Lambert-Beer’s law at 840 nm in the concentration range 0.1-11 ppm. The colour intensity of the reduced phosphomolybdate solution is found to be proportional to the amount of phosphate present in sugarcane juice, water, fertilizer and detergent samples. The reaction conditions as well as the various experimental parameters affecting the development and stability of the coloured complex were carefully investigated and optimized for the quantitative determination of phosphate present in various samples. The optimized concentrations of various reagents used are 0.20N sulphuric acid, 0.02M hydrazine hydrate and 0.20% ammonium molybdate. The effect of time on the formation of phosphomolybdenum blue complex and addition of the order of the reagents was also studied.
