To attain further performance enhancement beyond single GPU, there is a growing interest in exploiting systems with multiple GPUs. Attaining superior performance in a multi-GPU system involves three main design challenges, namely load balance, memory utilization, and data transfer. Imbalanced loading across a system could cause idling of GPUs while poor data reuse would trigger excessive memory accesses. The inefficient data transfer between a host and a device becomes a considerable performance overhead during high throughput computing. This paper aims at addressing the above design issues by proposing a Computation and Communication Aware task graph Scheduling (CCAS) for multi-GPU systems. The proposed scheduling approach (CCAS) adopts an effective heuristic algorithm that considers both data reuse and load balance in a multi-GPU system. The data transfer overhead is hidden by extensively overlapping computation and data communication. The experimental results of the proposed CCAS have demonstrated an average of 22.15% performance enhancement when compared with a previous work.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128618511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to preserve the sharp edges and avoid the ringing artifacts in the synthesized views, depth modelling modes (DMMs) are adopted into 3D-HEVC to achieve high coding efficiency. However, the computational complexity increases significantly with these modes. In this paper, an efficient algorithm of wedgelet pattern decision is proposed for one type of the DMMs: the explicit wedgelet signaling or equivalently DMM1. The proposed algorithm roughly estimates the position of sharp edges by pre-defined regions. Then the optimal wedgelet pattern is only searched in the most probable region. Simulation results show that our algorithm saves about 55% time of the wedgelet pattern selection with the BD-Rate increased by 0.49% in average.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"13 17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122757290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, traversing these modes dramatically results in unendurable high complexity. In this paper, we propose an efficient intra mode decision algorithm by taking advantage of the Low Complexity Rate-Distortion Cost information in the rough mode decision. Only one conventional intra mode and several most probable modes are then selected for most cases adaptively based on the threshold derived from the prior probability. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm provides about 34% saving in terms of the total depth coding time with little drop of the coding performance compared with the state-of-the-art algorithm.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121028274","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the main challenges is that prognostic models should be adaptive to changes in working conditions so that prediction of the remaining useful life of systems/components can be well adjusted with the dynamic of variation of both system and working conditions. Among various modeling and prediction techniques, natural computation and soft computing techniques, such as neural networks, offer interesting solutions to adjust prediction of the remaining useful life of systems/components while the complexity of modeling and real-time calculation is also reduced. This paper presents a radically-novel approach for building per-unit prognostic models applied on one of the most critical components of power modules, IGBT, that presents high failure rates in power electronic systems. An advantage is that the prognostic model can be generalized in a per-unit form; and then, its features are adjusted depending on the application, working condition, and dynamic of changes.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"6 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133007057","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A multi-core system is communication intensive with on-chip wire delays and on-chip interconnects accounting for half the dynamic power dissipation. A three-dimensional (3D) stacking of dies enables low intra-chip distances for signal transmission and helps to overcome the interconnect bottleneck of multi-core systems. The 3D integration by through silicon via (TSV) can significantly improve memory-logic communication bandwidth of multi-core systems. However, the 3D multi-core system has poor heat removal capability due to position of the heat-sink. In this paper, we made a study on the thermal profile of DRAM memory layers of 3-D multi-core system. In this study, workloads are distributed to memory layers based on its thermal efficiency such that work load of heavier applications is allocated to the memory layer having highest thermal efficiency and those of lighter applications is allocated to the memory layer with lower thermal efficiency. Experimental result shows that with selective work load distribution, the average peak temperature of the 3D multi-core system is reduced than randomly allocated work load to the memory layers. A memory controller could be designed for run-time distribution of work load to the memory layers which will be addressed in the future work.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"163 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130206936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Experiments have been carried out using a wireless network testbed made up of six nodes equipped with Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) radio interfaces. This setup allows the implementation of a 3-user MIMO interference channel. We have implemented different IA decoding schemes that operate either before or after the Fast Fourier Transform block. IA has been experimentally evaluated comparing both approaches to analyze its performance in synchronous and asynchronous transmissions. Our results indicate that spatial IA performs satisfactorily in practical broadband indoor scenarios in which wireless channels often exhibit relatively large coherence times.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"149 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122457337","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The signal is firstly passed through a gammatone filter which models the auditory filters in the human cochlea. The filtered signal is then divided into small windows and the energy in each window is added and normalized which gives the intensity values of the cochleagram image. We then divide the cochleagram image into blocks and extract central moments as features. Using two feature vector representation methods, the results show significant improvement in overall classification accuracy when compared to results from literature employing similar feature extraction and representation techniques but using spectrogram images. The most improved results were at low signal-to-noise ratios.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"127 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122564398","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We consider a pilot-assisted interference alignment scheme in which part of radio resources are allocated to channel training and the remaining resources are used for data transmission. A more accurate channel estimation can be obtained by increasing pilot transmission power. Since each transmitter has limited energy budget, this implies that less power is available for data transmission. Clearly, there is a trade off between the allocated power for channel training and the one for data communication. In order to investigate this trade off, first we compute an achievable sum-rate, and next we find the optimum power allocation to pilot transmission and data transmission. Finally, we verify these theoretical results with experimental measurements on USRP-based test-bed.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122898226","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposes an efficient and low-complexity method for seizure prediction. The univariate feature of line length can describe both amplitude and frequency variations of an EEG signal, and the bivariate feature of mean phase coherence (MPC) is able to quantify phase synchronization between EEG signals recorded from two different channels. The two features are combined to characterize the behavior of EEG signals. The Bayesian linear discriminant analysis (BLDA) algorithm is used as classifier to decide the feature samples. The smoothing and threshold process for the outputs of the BLDA classifier can reduce incorrect decisions further. This method has been evaluated on the publicly available EEG dataset and achieved the acceptable sensitivity of 86.36% with the false prediction rate of 0.04/h. The low computational burden of this method makes it suitable for the real-time processing in clinical practice.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"156 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122916356","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
