In this paper, some necessary local optimality conditions and some necessary global optimality conditions for quartic polynomial optimization problems with mixed variables are established. Then some local optimization methods, including weakly local optimization methods for general problems with mixed variables and strongly local optimization methods for quartic polynomial optimization problems with mixed variables, are proposed by exploiting these necessary local optimality conditions and necessary global optimality conditions. A global optimization method is proposed for quartic polynomial optimization problems by combining these local optimization methods together with some auxiliary functions. Some numerical examples are also given to illustrate that these approaches are very efficient.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130319692","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a unified high throughput SVD/QRD precoder chip design for MIMO OFDM systems. A hardware-implementation-friendly Givens Rotation (GR) based SVD computing scheme is developed first. It starts with a bi-diagonalization phase followed by an iterative diagonalization phase consisting of successive nullification sweeps. A convergence detection mechanism is employed to terminate the computations if the required precision is achieved. The design successfully integrates the SVD module (for precoding) with the QR decomposition (QRD) module (for MIMO signal detection) under a unified hardware framework. The design features a two-level pipelined, fully parallel architecture and CORDIC processors are employed to implement the GR modules efficiently. Various design optimization techniques are applied to reduce the circuit complexity and the power consumption. The implementation using TSMC 90nm process technology indicates a 35.75M SVDs per second throughput rate when operating at 143MHz. Both the throughput rate and the gate count efficiency of the proposed one outperform previous designs significantly.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115719048","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, most well-known signal parameter estimation algorithms assume that the receiver has access to the observations data with infinite precision. In this paper, we investigate a method to improve the performance of covariance based algorithms that operate on quantized signals. To this end, we use a particular transformation between the input and output second order statistics when affected by non-linear processing. By applying this transformation, we could then utilize standard algorithms with almost no additional complexity. The introduced method is also of particular interest in the context of adaptive signal processing, since many adaptive processing algorithms are based on estimating the received signal covariance matrices. Through simulations, we show that the method is capable of improving the estimation performance especially in the extreme case of one-bit quantization.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130124975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Wireless body area network (WBAN) is a dynamic network with sensor nodes in, on or around the body to monitor the physical parameters. The data of these parameters is so large which we called WBAN big data that traditional methods can not process them efficiently. In this paper, we propose the overall WBAN big data processing framework, and apply MapReduce and HBase to process, store and update the WBAN big data. Two problems of WBAN big data: Interfence and storage are investigated. Taking the specific feathers of WBAN big data into consideration, the framework will satisfy the goal of processing big data in WBAN and achieve the reasonable results that we hope.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134355388","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It gives a significantly improved estimation of the speech power spectrum that outperforms many traditional approaches. In this paper, we further extend the EM framework by including an efficient iterative noise estimation algorithm, which improves the estimation of the noise power spectrum from the noisy observation. Besides, we notice that some speech frames, particularly those with high signal to noise ratio (SNR), need to be monitored closely during the iterative enhancement process, or spectral distortion may result. A stopping criterion is thus developed to stop the iteration when a good result has been achieved. Experimental results show that the new approach gives a significant improvement over the original EM framework and also traditional speech enhancement methods.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134376361","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed method features significantly reduced communication between areas when compared to the existing gossip-based Gauss-Newton approach. We achieve this by confining gossip iterations associated with a specific state variable to only those areas which actually observe that state variable. This increases the speed of convergence of the gossip iterations, while reducing the amount of communication required for the gossip iterations to converge. We demonstrate the efficacy of our solution with simulations on the IEEE 118-bus system with different communication models.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"18 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114398852","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The novelty of the proposed system lies in this automatic inference of ten social indicators in real time. The system comprises of a Microsoft kinect device that captures RGB and depth data to compute visual cues and microphones to capture speech cues from an on-going conversation. With these non-verbal cues as features, machine learning algorithms are implemented in the system to extract multiple indicators of social behavior including empathy, confusion and politeness. The system is trained and tested on two carefully annotated corpora that consist of two person dialogs. Based on leave-one-out cross-validation test, the accuracy range of developed algorithms to infer social behaviors is 50% - 86% for audio corpus, and 62% - 92% for audio-visual corpus.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"109 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117198388","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a more realistic situation is considered where an additional user/listener generated Exemplar source is introduced to aid the separation process instead of using the original target source. The Exemplar source consists of patterns that need to be transformed, extracted, regulated and calibrated to generate an utterance dependent (UD) model that could statistically represent the target source. The proposed method uses general speaker independent (SI) features along with the generated UD features are modelled and combined in a joint probability model to achieve reliable separation. Unlike most model-based approaches, the proposed method does not require Speaker Dependent training on individual sources of the mixture, and is therefore much more efficient and less restrictive.","PeriodicalId":216293,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116715666","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
