Leading edge research on the renewable sources of energy is on a rise in order to meet the increasing energy demand without straining the environment. The objective of this project is to harvest potential energy inherent in tall buildings because of the high altitudes using micro-pelton turbine at the ground from grey water and rain water. Purified Grey water is collected in a tank placed at the centre of the building and rain water collection tank is placed at the top of the building. A control system is designed for optimum power output from the turbine and to monitor the levels of water. Separation and storage of used rainwater in a tank is also controlled. The pelton turbine is designed and further analyzed in ANSYS - Fluent, computationally for the power output. When number of high rises is escalating and awareness about rainwater harvesting and renewable sources of energy is indispensable, this source of energy will turn out to be viable option.","PeriodicalId":215798,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Energy Efficient Technologies for Sustainability (ICEETS)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114972494","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The specific cost (Csc) of the chimney defined by Pretorius and Kroger is considered to estimate the approximate cost of SCPP using the cost model of Pretorius and Kroger. It is assumed that the average chimney thickness increment is 1 mm for every one meter height of the chimney. Using volume of material used for chimney and specific chimney cost capital cost of chimney is calculated. The collector cost was expressed in terms of specific chimney cost, height of the chimney, inlet height of the collector and the diameter of the collector. Energy conversion machinery cost is taken as a 10% of the sum of collector and chimney cost. For different plant capacities ranging from 5 MW to 200 MW, capital cost varies from Rs. 75.51 Cr to Rs. 1848.43 Cr and LEC is estimated as Rs. 4.22/kWh to Rs. 2.58/kWh under Indian conditions.","PeriodicalId":215798,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Energy Efficient Technologies for Sustainability (ICEETS)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123144473","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are many Groundnut oil producing industries in these states. Disposal of these biomass residues is a problem, since it is difficult to burn groundnut shell waste at atmospheric condition. This situation makes people to focus on sustainable energy resources for waste disposal. One of the technique is Gasification, which is a thermo-chemical conversion process that enables conversion of groundnut shell into producer gas which can be used for power generation. As a raw material, groundnut shells have attractive potential for large scale industries and community level enterprises for power generation. With the above Groundnut production, the production potential per ton of waste is calculated to be 4905 kWh/ton and Energy from waste is calculated to be 2013 MW. Optimization has been made to enhance specific calorific value of producer gas in the downdraft gasifier.","PeriodicalId":215798,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Energy Efficient Technologies for Sustainability (ICEETS)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116923130","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Polymer Electrode Membrane (PEM) fuel cells has been widely recognized as the most promising technique for future generating devices in the automotive, distributed power generation and portable electronic applications. In recent years, research and development in fuel cells are accelerated but present cost of fuel cells is still too high for them to become feasible commercial products. The performance of PEM fuel cells is known to be influenced by many parameters, such as operating temperature, pressure and humidification of the gas streams. In order to improve fuel cell performances, it is essential to understand these parametric effects on fuel cell operation. For improved integration and power sharing, a knowledge based algorithm using the concept of smart parks is introduced in this paper. Smart parks are electric vehicle charging centers which have a great potential to support the grid. Smart parks uses modified Icosφ control algorithm and by proper control of this algorithm, microgrids can provide active power support, reactive power compensation and harmonic elimination. Fuzzy logic controller is used for controlling the operation of microgrids depending upon certain factors like SOC level, source current and tariff. The simulation of tariff based fuzzy logic controller is performed in MATLAB/Simulink and it shows that it can provide improved integration of microgrids with less power quality issues.","PeriodicalId":215798,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Energy Efficient Technologies for Sustainability (ICEETS)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117038585","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Job Shop Scheduling Problem (JSSP) has emerged as one of the most appealing scheduling models now in vogue which is concerned with the toughest combinatorial optimization issues. The job shop scheduling menace can be successfully tackled by means of a narrative technique, whereby overlapping in functions and client requirement may be compensated with the manifold requirement for each and every job, where demand invariably exerts an incredible thrust on the volume of each and every completed task demanded by the client. The proposed methodology hybridization of the Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) optimization techniques minimizes the makespan time of the shops. Here twenty different types of bench mark problems are considered for the JSSP process. In the ABC technique the scout bee operation based on the PSO technique updates the process velocity and position of particles. The optimal solutions are obtained in the HPA compared to the ABC and PSO. From the results the optimal makespan time fitness function accuracy of the proposed method is 94.23% compared to other optimization processes.","PeriodicalId":215798,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Energy Efficient Technologies for Sustainability (ICEETS)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129252569","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
