Three strategies to improve output power and power-added efficiency are described using examples, namely direct matching between PA and antenna, tuning of harmonic reflections in the antenna, and in-antenna power combining from multiple PAs. An outlook is given on the challenges to be faced in the application of these strategies in wide-scanning phased arrays.","PeriodicalId":215592,"journal":{"name":"2022 52nd European Microwave Conference (EuMC)","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128659529","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The power stage is based on RF power GaN-HEMT technology. Operated from 40 V and switching at 80 MHz, a maximum output power of 125W is demonstrated for 82% duty cycle. The maximum overall efficiency including the switch driver losses is in the range of 91 % to 86 % for switching frequencies between 50 MHz and 110 MHz. The reverse buck converter is evaluated in terms of switching behavior, output filter characteristics, output voltage and efficiency, always considering that it is loaded with varying impedances under envelope tracking operation.","PeriodicalId":215592,"journal":{"name":"2022 52nd European Microwave Conference (EuMC)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124560981","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The chemical composition of road salt causes pitting corrosion of steel used in road constructions, especially in the reinforced concrete of bridges. Due to increasing cracks in the concrete, chloride ions intrude deeper and deeper into the structure over a longer period of time and attack the steel structure. In the worst case, this can lead to structural breakdown. However, early detection of damage in reinforced concrete can prevent such failure. Therefore, this paper deals with the implementation of a passive Ultra-High Frequency Radio-Frequency Identification (UHF RFID) sensor platform as a preventive measure. The sensor data are collected and transmitted to a reader that processes the information about the chloride concentration. For the presented RFID sensor platform, a WISP based Tag was improved and supplemented by additional circuit components. Several modifications and an additional circuit with high input impedance allows the connection of electrochemical probes (sensor). An Impinj Speedway R420 (UHF RFID reader) is used to read the measurement data from the sensor platform which is integrated in the concrete over a distance of 15 cm.","PeriodicalId":215592,"journal":{"name":"2022 52nd European Microwave Conference (EuMC)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130302385","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It's realized by a shorted monopole with wide band in microwave (MW) frequency band and two standing wave antennas based on half-mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW) cavity in millimeter-wave (MMW) frequency band. The shorted monopole is implemented by double layer coplanar waveguide structure (DLCPW) so that cavity modes can be transmitted. There is a shorted via at the end of monopole in order to broaden working band. For sake of improving isolation between two bands, HMSIW cavity is integrated around the shorted via of monopole. Two MMW standing wave antennas are designed along the open side of HMSIW cavity, which have omnidirectional radiation pattern and compact size. Measured results showed that isolation between two feed-ports is more than 40 dB. The structure-shared antenna operates between frequency range of 2.04-4.12 GHz (67.53%) and 27.2-28.1 GHz, locating at sub-6GHz and MMW band, respectively.","PeriodicalId":215592,"journal":{"name":"2022 52nd European Microwave Conference (EuMC)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130514584","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Docon features 65 dB of conversion Gain compensated in temperature, a Noise Figure of 5.5 dB at ambient temperature, including the input isolator, and linear amplification of the useful multicarrier signal resulting in a total Third Order Intercept point (OTOI) of +30 dBm. The output spectrum is practically spurious-free in band, only showing the residual out-of-band LO signal at a level well below −40 dBm. Docons are key elements in satellite communications payloads, allowing the translation of uplink frequency to the downlink user frequency band. The rationale for exploiting the W - band is the larger and continuous bandwidth at disposal, roughly twice the one currently available in Q/V-band. Consequently, the number of user beams associated with a single gateway is almost doubled. Several custom MMICs have been developed for this project by using the space qualified PH10 GaAs process from UMS. To the best of the knowledge of the authors, this is the first Docon operating in W-band ever realised for space applications","PeriodicalId":215592,"journal":{"name":"2022 52nd European Microwave Conference (EuMC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130529703","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous realizations of TE- polarized Bessel beams at millimeter waves are based on leaky-wave resonant cavities fed with loop antennas. Unfortunately, these feeders also excite undesired, nonnegligible Transverse Magnetic (TM) field components, thus leading to a hybrid TE polarization, rather than a pure TE polarization. In this work, we propose a radial-slot array feeding technique as an effective solution to generate almost pure TE-polarized Bessel beams in leaky-wave resonant cavities. The design is based on an effective leaky-wave approach for the characterization of the launcher. The proposed TE feeding scheme is validated with full-wave results. The study of a complete wireless power transfer scenario shows that the proposed solution significantly improves the link budget compared to previous hybrid TE- and TM-polarization cases.","PeriodicalId":215592,"journal":{"name":"2022 52nd European Microwave Conference (EuMC)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123817722","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such influences may leave the optically visible parts of the objects intact, while invisible damages can develop invisible under the surface and endanger the structural integrity of irreplaceable works of art. One example are frescos and mural paintings, where the mortar-based preparation layers on walls are prone to developing cracks due to constant mechanical stress on the building's structure. Non-destructive testing (NDT) by terahertz measurements can help reveal such defects and yield valuable information of the layer structure of the paintings to support the work of art historians in restoration and conservation. In this contribution, we present structural investigations, which we performed on Leonardo da Vinci's famous mural painting “The Last Supper” using terahertz FMCW and TDS measurements techniques.","PeriodicalId":215592,"journal":{"name":"2022 52nd European Microwave Conference (EuMC)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123639950","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
