Thus, the study aimed to carry out an economic-social analysis of family-based irrigated production systems, considering financing scenarios and associated with a level of social reproduction. Through structured questionnaires, a detailed survey of information was carried out on family-based irrigated production systems in monoculture and polyculture, representative of local conditions, allowing the analysis of the added value and the farmer's income for the conditions with and without financing in the Pronaf Mais Alimento line of credit. Family-based irrigated production systems in the semi-arid region are severely limited in terms of their economic and social sustainability in a scenario without the support of rural credit. The polyculture production system represents an economically efficient production alternative when associated with the financing scenario. The level of social reproduction for production systems with financing, with a view to economic sustainability, can be obtained with areas of cultivation that represent less than half of those in systems without financing. It is noteworthy that each production system has unique peculiarities, so this study cannot be generalized, but the calculation strategy can be applied and adapted to other properties and regions.","PeriodicalId":21558,"journal":{"name":"Revista Caatinga","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45525531","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Young plants of the diploid cultivar Ouro (AA), previously subjected to in vitro polyploidization with the antimitotic amiprofos-methyl - APM (0, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 60 µM L-1) and colchicine (2.5 mM L-1) were evaluated for survival, height, number of leaves, pseudostem diameter, leaf disc fresh mass, and stomatal density. Ploidy was determined by flow cytometry in a random sample of 200 plants to find the relationship between the genomic content and the analyzed variables. Spearman’s correlation analysis showed a strong correlation (0.84**) between leaf disc fresh mass and tetraploid plants, as well as an absence of significant correlation between stomatal density and ploidy levels. Thus, the pre-selection of plants was carried out using a reference value of leaf disc fresh mass and resulted in 688 plants pre-selected as putative tetraploids. Among them, 318 were confirmed as tetraploids, 291 as diploids, and 79 as mixoploids after flow cytometry analysis. The pre-selection efficiency was 46.2% of tetraploid plants from the total pre-selected. The results indicate that the use of leaf disc fresh mass is a simple, practical, and promising method to estimate ploidy when a high number of plants is obtained in in vitro banana polyploidization studies, reducing the total number of plants to have confirmed ploidy.","PeriodicalId":21558,"journal":{"name":"Revista Caatinga","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43497098","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, the geographic distribution of the electrical conductivity of water of underground dams was evaluated at the end of the dry season of 2018 and at the end of the rainy season of 2019. Maps were created in ArcGIS 10.4.1 software using the Inverse Distance Weighted interpolator. The results indicated high electrical conductivity variability in the evaluated underground dams. The highest values were obtained in the eastern portion of the Rio Grande do Norte state, except for two dams, located in the municipalities of Apodi and Severiano Melo. In most of the underground dams (64%), the water has an electrical conductivity with low soil salinization potential (EC < 0.7 dS m-1). It was observed that the salinity of the underground dams is influenced by several factors, such as climate, relief, land use and occupation due to rural agglomerations and animal husbandry in the dam hydrographic basin, and intensive nutritional management with fertilizers in the dam area.","PeriodicalId":21558,"journal":{"name":"Revista Caatinga","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48830191","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this work was to evaluated water quality in underground dams, for agricultural irrigation purposes, in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, at the end of the dry season in 2018 and at the end of the rainy season in 2019. The variables with the greatest impact on water quality were identified through multivariate analysis, using the software Statistica 7.0. The results showed that concentrations of variables correlated with salinity and ion toxicity in water of the dams decreased after the rainy season, whereas those correlated with clogging of localized irrigation systems increased. Salinity, sodicity, and/or toxicity in areas of underground dams were correlated with natural mineralization of geological components of soils; however, they also were affected by rainfall with marine hygroscopic nuclei, presence of rural clusters and corrals, and decomposition of organic matter in the damming area. The variables correlated with salinity presented higher effect on the hydrochemical variability of water within these dams in both sampling periods; electrical conductivity and chloride ions were the most significant variables.","PeriodicalId":21558,"journal":{"name":"Revista Caatinga","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43697734","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective was to select, through multivariate analysis, sustainable agroecosystems for yellow melon cultivated under irrigated conditions in the Brazilian semi-arid region. The long-term experiment is set up in Argissolo Vermelho- Amarelo (Ultisol) with six multifunctional agroecosystems, composed of the combination of three mixtures of cover crops (1 - 75% legumes + 25% grasses and oilseeds; 2 - 25% legumes + 75% grasses and oilseeds and 3 - spontaneous vegetation) and two types of soil management (no tillage-NT and tillage-T). The purpose was to evaluate the nutritional status of plants, soil fertility, nematode population in roots and soil, and the yield. Data were analyzed with multivariate techniques, allowing the grouping of the agroecosystems based on their similarities and complexity of functions. The incorporation of plant residues to the soil reduces nematode population, but their maintenance on the surface allows the improvement of fertility and yield, even under larger nematode populations. The agroecosystems that associate the nonincorporation of residues from cover crops with larger species diversity in composition constitute the most complex model, allowing different environmental functionalities. Thus, it is recommended not to incorporate the plant residues, planting the melon seedlings directly in the straw. However, considering that the results obtained with the non-incorporation of spontaneous vegetation were similar to those obtained with the incorporation of commercial cover crops, it is concluded that this practice is also viable and adapted to the semi-arid conditions.","PeriodicalId":21558,"journal":{"name":"Revista Caatinga","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45926523","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objectives of this study were to select superior common bean lines for several plant architecture and yield traits and identify the minimum number of experiments that provide greater efficiency in simultaneous selection for agronomic traits. Twelve plant architecture and five yield traits of common bean lines were evaluated in four experiments. Analysis of variance and selection index (multiplicative) were carried out using data from individual experiments I (2016 rainy), II (2017 dry), III (2017 rainy), and IV (2018 dry-season crops), or data from two (I and II), three (I, II, and III), and four (I, II, III, and IV) experiments. Most agronomic traits showed a significant genotype × experiment interaction effect. The use of data from individual experiments resulted in variable heritability and genetic gain estimates and in the selection of different common bean genotypes for each growing environment. However, data from three or four experiments allowed 100% of coincidence in the selection of four superior common bean genotypes: LP 09-33, BRS Valente, Pérola, and Carioca. Data from at least three experiments should be used to select superior common bean lines for plant architecture and yield traits to increase the efficiency of simultaneous selection.","PeriodicalId":21558,"journal":{"name":"Revista Caatinga","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48043504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Faced with this problem, this study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of cover crops and biocontrol agents in the management of nematodes in soybean. For each nematode species under study (Meloidogyne incognita and Pratylenchus brachyurus), two experiments were carried out under greenhouse conditions in a completely randomized design arranged in a 6 × 2 factorial scheme with eight replications. Six cover crops (millet ADRG 9050, millet ADR 300, Urochloa ruziziensis, Crotalaria ochroleuca, C. spectabilis, and corn hybrid DKB 290) and two treatments (treated or not with Bacillus subtilis and B. methylotrophicus - 1×106 CFU per seed) were evaluated. The cover crops were sown in soil infested with nematodes and then soybeans were sown under the straw, and cultivated for 45 and 60 days, for M. incognita and P. brachyurus, respectively. Fresh root mass, total nematode population, and the number of nematodes per gram of root were evaluated. The association of microorganisms with C. spectabilis, U. ruziziensis, and millet ADR 300 conferred an additional effect in reducing the population of P. brachyurus. For M. incognita, the association was successful only for combining C. spectabilis with B. methylotrophicus. DKB 290 corn, when treated with B. methylotrophicus, had the nematode population per gram of soybean root reduced by 90% compared to plants that did not receive biological treatment.","PeriodicalId":21558,"journal":{"name":"Revista Caatinga","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44616090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work aims to demonstrate data mining methods for ranking sorghum seed lots during the seed processing through analysis of quality control data. Germination and cold tests were performed to verify the physiological quality of the lots. Seed samples from each lot were evaluated in two moments: post-cleaning and finished product (ready for marketing). The results after pre-processing totaled 188 rows of data with six attributes, encompassing 150 lots accepted for marketing, 6 rejected, and 32 intermediate lots. The classifiers used were J48, Random Forest, Classification Via Regression, Naive Bayes, Multilayer Perceptron, and IBk. The Resample filter was used for adjustment of the data. The k-fold technique was used for training, with ten folds. The metrics of Accuracy, Precision, Recall, F-measure, and ROC Area were used to verify the accuracy of the algorithms. The results obtained were used to determine the best machine-learning algorithm. IBk and J48 presented the highest accuracy of data; the IBk technique presented the best results. The Resample filter was essential for solving the data imbalance problem. Sorghum seed lots can be classified with great accuracy and precision through artificial intelligence and machine learning technique.","PeriodicalId":21558,"journal":{"name":"Revista Caatinga","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47054639","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective was to evaluate the effect of different levels of water salinity, associated with the use of sodium silicate on the production parameters and nutrient levels in the leaf and stem of mini watermelon in a protected environment. To conduct the experiment, a randomized block design was adopted, in a 6 x 2 factorial scheme, with 4 repetitions, with six levels of irrigation water salinity (1.05; 2.12; 3.26; 4.41; 5.91 and 7.32 dS m-1) and two types of Si application: without Si and in foliar solution. The following parameters were evaluated: plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, leaf and stem fresh and dry mass; biometric variables and total soluble solids content in the fruits; and nutrient contents in leaves and stem. The use of Si associated with fertigation with different salinity levels promoted a positive response for peel thickness, ºBrix, fresh and dry mass of leaves, and Si accumulation in leaves and stem. Salinity alone promoted an increase in pulp weight, ºBrix of the fruits and potassium content in the stem, besides increasing the manganese content and inhibiting the zinc content in the leaves. There was a significant interaction for the manganese content in the stem, with a positive response in the absence of foliar-applied Si and a negative response in the presence of foliar-applied Si under different levels of salinity.","PeriodicalId":21558,"journal":{"name":"Revista Caatinga","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47523255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The species Vellozia seubertiana stands out for its beautiful flowers and stems covered by leaf sheaths that ensure protection when in contact with fire. However, there is no information on its propagation, conservation, and physiology, which justifies this study. The objective of this work was to establish a micropropagation protocol for V. seubertiana. Seeds were disinfected and inoculated in Murashige and Skoog culture medium (MS) with half salt concentration (MS½) for in vitro establishment. Plantlets established in vitro were used to induce sprouting in MS½ supplemented with 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP; 0.00, 4.44, 8.88, and 17.76 µM) and 1-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA; 0.00 and 2.22 µM). The shoots obtained were inoculated in MS½ containing activated charcoal (0.0 and 1.0 g L−¹) and indole-3-butyric acid (IBA; 0.00 and 2.22 µM) for rooting. The rooted plantlets were acclimated under greenhouse conditions. A mean of 5.7 shoots were generated through organogenesis in medium containing 8.75 µM of BAP and 2.22 µM of NAA. The use of activated charcoal resulted in the highest means for aerial part and root lengths in the in vivo rooting phase. Acclimated plants reached 75% survival at 60 days after transplanting to ex vitro conditions. The results indicate that micropropagation is a promising technique for the production of V. seubertiana seedlings.","PeriodicalId":21558,"journal":{"name":"Revista Caatinga","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48267320","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
