Over the years, these schemes have become less robust as they can be guessed, cracked, stolen or shared. Biometric-based authentication methods have positioned themselves as better options as they do not suffer from the same limitations as conventional methods. The reason being that biometrics exploit the uniqueness of a subject with regards to what they are or how they behave. In this paper, we investigate the use of a behavioural biometric, Keystroke Dynamics (KSD) as a means of identity verification for online persons. We present the proof-of-concept of a novel keystroke dynamics authentication method that is based on text retrieval concepts and methods. We test our algorithm on a classification task and achieve promising results. Furthermore, we show experimentally that a person's typing behaviour is susceptible to the environment in which they are typing.","PeriodicalId":215514,"journal":{"name":"2020 International SAUPEC/RobMech/PRASA Conference","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129829592","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Probability analysis requires probabilistic models of a wide range of loads and generation profiles. Eskom has a large data base of measurements at customers on medium voltage feeders. Some of the data have been extracted and used in this pilot project to cluster load profiles. It is possible to identify representative customer groups and representative days. The models are suitable for network performance and tariffs analysis.","PeriodicalId":215514,"journal":{"name":"2020 International SAUPEC/RobMech/PRASA Conference","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114308443","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The lack of dc power quality (PQ) standards can be addressed by, amongst others, evaluating the impact of PQ deviations on consumer end equipment. A voltage disturbance emulation test source (VDETS) was designed that can be used to test the operation of dc equipment when subjected to different power quality disturbances. This paper provides a discussion on the design of the VDETS and the methods of emulating dc voltage dips (sags), voltage swells, ripple voltage, undervoltage, overvoltage and voltage interruptions. Basic testing of the VDETS is reported by means of voltage dip testing on two different dc light sources.","PeriodicalId":215514,"journal":{"name":"2020 International SAUPEC/RobMech/PRASA Conference","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114581520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The WTPCs' models can be used by utility system operators and independent power producers (IPPs) for wind energy monitoring, assessment, planning, and forecast. As a result of considerable growth in the wind energy industry, wind turbines are installed in different geographical locations and climatic conditions such as on-shore, o □ -shore and complex terrains. This leads to a significant deviation of WTPCs from the manufacturer models, which are obtained based on an ideal situation. Therefore, accurate modeling of WTPCs can play a crucial role in improving the performance of wind energy-based systems. This study presents a detailed analysis for modeling of WTPCs based on four Enercon wind turbines; E-53 (800 kW), E-70 (2300 kW), E-82-E3 (3000 kW) and E-126 (7500 kW). Firstly, the proposed method of the study, which is based on the sum of the sine functions, is compared to a number of previously developed mathematical models by means of the goodness of fit analysis. In the second step, the accuracy of the proposed models has been enhanced by the utilization of an improved version of particle swarm optimization (IPSO) through the optimization of the model's coefficients. To verify the practicality of IPSO adaptation by the proposed models, the obtained results of the second step have been compared with several optimization methods.","PeriodicalId":215514,"journal":{"name":"2020 International SAUPEC/RobMech/PRASA Conference","volume":"16 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134004503","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A simple analytic calculation method is introduced whereby the harmonic generator line currents can be calculated. This method is used to identify the necessary per unit line reactance values to ensure a low harmonic current content. It is found that 0.8 per unit reactance reduces the 5th harmonic line current to 5 % of the fundamental. It is further found that multiphase generator systems show no advantage in this regard.","PeriodicalId":215514,"journal":{"name":"2020 International SAUPEC/RobMech/PRASA Conference","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116659318","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To explore this topic, five shopping mall profiles were analyzed, with and without a photovoltaic array. The critical load profile day was used as a focus point for analysis. An interactive visualization tool was developed to assist the user in identifying the critical load profile in every month. These load profile shapes were then analyzed in an attempt to link their shape attributes to financial metrics obtained from HOMER Grid simulation software. The critical load profiles were successfully categorized into different shape categories with every shape linking to a better or worse return in relation to another.","PeriodicalId":215514,"journal":{"name":"2020 International SAUPEC/RobMech/PRASA Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125837974","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The supply voltage frequency range was varied from 0 – 260 Hz. The aim was to observe and analyse the effects that the supply voltage frequency has on PD characteristics such as PD inception and PD magnitude. A high frequency current transformer (HFCT) was implemented as a non-conventional measurement method in accordance with the IEC Standard 62478. The results showed that with an increase in frequency, the voltage inception of PD decreased. On the other hand, the magnitude of PD increased as the frequency increased. These trends are interpreted in terms of effective discharge time and residual space charge.","PeriodicalId":215514,"journal":{"name":"2020 International SAUPEC/RobMech/PRASA Conference","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123673872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The capacitance equivalent model is implemented in MATLAB® Simulink® to achieve the results. Frequency dependent mechanisms responsible for this influence are the statistical time lag, surface and bulk conductivity, and surface charge decay and electron de-trapping. Only the first two of these mechanisms are implemented in the model to get their effect on partial discharge inception voltage (PDIV) as well as the phase-resolved partial discharge patterns. PDIV and PD magnitude increase as the supply voltage frequency is increased. Pulse repetition rate (PRR) has two trends whereby for frequencies between very low frequency to 50 Hz it increases whereas for frequencies above 50 Hz it decreases. More analysis is required to understand why these two trends behave the way they do. Modeling of the surface charge decay and electron de-trapping factor, and experimental results is recommended to validate and give more confidence and reliability to the simulation results.","PeriodicalId":215514,"journal":{"name":"2020 International SAUPEC/RobMech/PRASA Conference","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127897745","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
