A split plot design with four replicates was used in each experiment. Each experiment included 12 treatments, which were a combination of the three irrigation treatments and the four tested flax varieties. The main plots were assigned to the three irrigation treatments. The subplots were devoted to the four tested flax varieties. All the experimental plots received sowing irrigation similarly on the next day of sowing and 1, 2, or 3 irrigations were subsequently added to the plots during the growing seasons. The most important results as the average of the two growing seasons could be summarized as follows: Significant increases in all straw and seed yield characters were achieved with the third irrigation treatment (sowing irrigation added with three irrigations) followed by the second irrigation treatment (sowing irrigation added with two irrigations), without significant difference between them in most characters. However, the first irrigation treatment (sowing irrigation added with one irrigation) recorded the lowest values for all characters, under study. Significant varietal differences were observed for all studied characters. Giza 12 variety exceeded significantly all other three tested flax varieties in all straw characters. However, Sakha 6 variety followed by Giza 11 variety surpassed significantly the two other flax varieties i.e., Giza 12 and Iriana in all seed characters. Moreover, the Iriana variety recorded the highest values of fiber yield and quality, without significant differences between the Iriana variety and the Giza 12 variety in the most studied characters. A significant interaction effect was observed between the three studied irrigation treatments and the four tested flax varieties on straw characters i.e., total plant height, main stem diameter, straw yield fed -1 , fiber yield fed -1 , total fiber %, and fiber fineness. The highest values of total plant height, main stem diameter, straw yield fed -1 , fiber yield fed -1 , and total fiber % were obtained from the Giza 12 variety when irrigated with three irrigations adding with sowing irrigation. However, the finest fibers were recorded for the Iriana variety when irrigated by applying three irrigations adding with sowing irrigation. Also, a significant interaction effect was detected for seed characters i.e., number of capsules plant -1 , seed yield plant -1 , seed yield fed -1 , and oil yield fed -1 , whereas the highest values","PeriodicalId":215483,"journal":{"name":"Menoufia Journal of Plant Production","volume":"215 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139203672","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This investigation carried out during 2019 and 2020 summer seasons at North Delta, Biyala district as a poor fertile soil located at Kafr El-Sheikh, Egypt. This investigation aims to evaluate the efficacy of foliar application of silica forms [Traditional-Si (T-Si) and Nano Si (N-Si)] with various concentrations (control, 250, 500 and 750 ppm/liter) combined with or without potassium humate (K-H) as single concentration 14 cm 3 /liter through (tillering, panicle formation and heading stages) on growth, yield and grain quality of Giza 178 rice cultivar. A split-plot design based on randomized complete block for treatment arrangement with three replicates was used. Two Si forms were designated in main plots, while the concentrations along with or without potassium humate were arranged in sub plots. Data obtained revealed that foliar application of nano silica (N-Si) showed a remarkable superiority with regard to all growth, yield and grain quality parameters in both seasons of study. When the foliar application of Si concentrations increased up to 750 ppm/L cause significant increases in the growth, yield and its components as well as grain quality. Concerning interaction effect, foliar application of Nano Si with potassium humate (K-H) surpassed the remaining treatments and recorded the peak values of growth and other yield and grain quality parameters. Coefficient of determination (R 2 ) also illustrated that, there were obvious relationship between foliar application of silicon forms and number of panicles/m 2 (0.6431and 0.7432), panicle length (0.7556 and 0.7921), panicle weight (0.7416 and 0.6941), number of filled grains/panicle (0.7667 and 0.8586) as well as grain yield (0.8485 and 0.8793) for both traditional and nano silica foliar concentrations. In the same trend, coefficient of determination recorded a positive relationship between all silica forms and their concentrations in terms of elongation % (0.5085 and 0.5603) and vice versa was recorded in case of amylose content (0.1788 and 0.1167) for both foliar application of traditional and nano silica, respectively. Whilst, a significant sturdy positive correlation between grain yield with each of number of panicles/m 2 (r = 0.912), panicle length (r = 0.913) and panicle weight (r = 0.857). From the obvious results it could be conclude that foliar application of Si forms with 750/L ppm along with potassium humate with 14 cm 3 /L through the vital (tillering, panicle formation and heading stages) could be the suit avenue to achieve high grain yield and pertinent quality of Giza 178 rice cultivar under poor soil fertile condition in North Delta, Egypt.","PeriodicalId":215483,"journal":{"name":"Menoufia Journal of Plant Production","volume":"200 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132837763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main objectives of this study were: (i) to trace the physiological development of maize hybrids with reference to growth parameters, and (ii) to assess yield, quality and responses of silage maize genotypes to plant densities. Eight corn hybrids were used in this study, seven were single cross hybrids three of them were white-grain: SC10, SC128, SC131 and four yellow-grain SC166, SC167, SC168, SC176 and one white-grain three-way cross namely TWC321. Hybrids were developed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Maize Research Program, and Agriculture Research Center, Egypt. The fieldwork included two plant densities 20,000 and 35,000 plants faddan -1 i.e .; 47,619 and 83,333 plant hectare -1 , traits were measured at three development stages i.e. (35, 70 and 105 days after emergence). Spilt -plot design in a randomized complete block design, with three replications was employed. Sub-plot was 18 m 2 of six ridges each of 0.75 m width and four-meter long. Corn hybrids were distributed in the main–plots, whereas, the sub-plots contained the two plant densities. The results indicated that, as plant density increased from 47,619 to 83.333 plant hectare -1 , stalk diameter decreased from 24.53 to 20.91 mm, upper leaf chlorophyll content decreased from 46.45 to 42.01 SPAD, lower leaf chlorophyll content decreased from 36.74 to 31.31 SPAD, the no. of ears per plant decreased from 1.38 to 1.10 and plant dry weight decreased from 293 to 195 g plant -1 , respectively. Plant densities significantly gave similar plant dry weight after 35 days from emergence, while, low plant density (47.619 plant ha -1 ) gave the heaviest plant dry weight after 70 and 105 DAE (279 and 584 g plant -1 , respectively).The results indicated that relative growth rate of maize hybrids during the first developmental stage (35-70 DAE) was significantly superior to measured figures in the late season stage (70-105 DAE). Also, hybrids with significantly higher RGR during the early season’s stage were SC10, SC128, SC131 SC168 and SC176. While SC167 and TWC321 significantly exhibited lower values. By the late season stage (70-105 DAE) all hybrids had similar values of RGR. Effect of plant density on total dry forage yield over maize-hybrids and developmental stage, the highest significant total dry forage yield was recorded at a plant density of 83.333 plant hectare -1 (15.70 t. ha -1 ), while, the plant density of 47,619 plant hectare -1 significantly recorded lower value (13.92 t. ha -1 ). Maize hybrids were significantly divided into two groups regarding protein yield. A superior group with values 2.19, 1.96, 1.96, 1.61 and 1.84 t. ha -1 for SC10, SC131, SC168, SC128 and SC176. The second lower group included SC167, TWC321 and SC166 with values of (1.59, 1.45 and 1.20 t. ha -1 respectively).","PeriodicalId":215483,"journal":{"name":"Menoufia Journal of Plant Production","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130313650","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
