Therefore, it is essential to have effective protection and diagnosis techniques for these machines. Ground faults are the most common issue in rotor windings and several damages can be originated if a second fault occurs, consequently, the detection of the first one is crucial. After detecting the existence of a ground fault, knowing about its location would be helpful to reduce the time needed to repair the machine. This paper presents a new ground fault location method in field windings of synchronous machines based on the use of Frequency Response Analysis (FRA). The method provides an estimation, not only of the location of the faulty turn but also of the fault resistance. The method is based on the utilization of the resonance frequency as a distinctive parameter. This technique has been developed and successfully corroborated carrying out numerous experimental tests in a pole of a large hydro synchronous generator.","PeriodicalId":215332,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering and 2020 IEEE Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Europe (EEEIC / I&CPS Europe)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125559039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The potential of PtG applications from curtailed electricity from wind and solar photovoltaic plants in the Spanish electricity sector is studied. The curtailed electricity data is obtained by the elaboration of the P48 dispatch program correction published by the Spanish TSO. Subsequently, electrolysis (alkaline and PEM), fuel-cell (alkaline, PEM and r-SOC) and methanation (catalytic Sabatier reactor) systems are sized in a cascading approach and the levelised costs of the final products (H2, electricity and CH4) are evaluated via a Techno-Economic Analysis. Also, an optimization of the Levelised Cost Of Hydrogen (LCOH) in function of the electrolyser capacity (kW) has been performed through a dynamic simulation in TRNSYS. Techno-Economic results show that hydrogen production (ALK or PEM) from wind curtailment is already competitive today (3.57-5.52 €/kgH2), together with its re-electrification (ALK or r-SOC) for self-consumption (around 0.2 €kWhe). Other PtG pathways from wind curtailment such as re-electrification (ALK or r-SOC 0.22-0.25 €kWhe) in the ancillary market and CNG from ALK (192.14 €/MWhSNG,HHV) are not far from competitiveness respect to their reference market price (0.15 €kWhe and 172.41 €/MWhSNG,HHVrespectively). Levelised costs of other wind coupled pathways (PEM fuel cell, CNG from PEM and CH4 injection) and all PV coupled configurations still need substantial support. Dynamic simulations show that under variable operating conditions the LCOH increases by 60-80% but the optimal electrolyser size is reduced by 20-30%.","PeriodicalId":215332,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering and 2020 IEEE Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Europe (EEEIC / I&CPS Europe)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126833755","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order for energy service companies and utilities to achieve universal energy access by 2030, innovation in the microgrid sphere needs to span across three levels: technological innovation, business model innovation and lastly, systemic innovation. To make strides across all three levels, academic studies on microgrids need to align with field-proven programs. A vast majority of the energy access programs currently underway are in developing countries with limited access to the latest information and state-of-the-art technology. This paper serves as a link between scientific advancements and field-proven best-practices for designing microgrids in rural communities. The paper highlights four critical aspects of microgrid design: 1) the challenges faced by rural communities and energy service companies, 2) microgrid subsystems and their associated technical developments, 3) system sizing and demand forecasting, and 4) practitioner-focused recommendations and best-practices. The study concludes with a general way forward for rural microgrid design and development.","PeriodicalId":215332,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering and 2020 IEEE Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Europe (EEEIC / I&CPS Europe)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114956745","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each experiment was conducted under daylit conditions and consisted of two trials (with and without shading device) which were carried out in one experimental session. Twenty university students were recruited as participants to perform cognitive test as well as to administer subjective evaluations in a mock-up VDT station. Luminance ratios were grouped based on the ratios between bright light and direct surroundings. Results showed that the students gave faster responses for finding the correct target when the luminance distribution was not uniform whereas the number of correct answers given was higher when the luminance distribution was uniform. Subjective sensation of visual discomfort and lighting appraisal were in the same trend, indicating uniform luminance distribution was more appreciated by the participants. Based on these findings, the study provides additional insights in the effect of luminance patterns on individuals' performance, health and wellbeing in educational buildings.","PeriodicalId":215332,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering and 2020 IEEE Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Europe (EEEIC / I&CPS Europe)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115221452","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was layered on a 100% polyester support with a thickness of 1.5 mm and achieves a good adaptation and high gain. The simple and flexible patch antenna has been designed to operate at two frequencies bands: the first one operating at 3.15 GHz in S-band and the second operating at 3.5 GHz for WiMAX wireless communication systems. We have evaluated and tested its performances, including the reflection coefficient, the gain, the radiation pattern and the surface current distribution, with gain values of 5.76 dB and 1.66 dB respectively. This article demonstrates the applicability of the material proposed for the design of flexible antennas integrated into OLED light sources while maintaining gain performance comparable to conventional planar antennas.","PeriodicalId":215332,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering and 2020 IEEE Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Europe (EEEIC / I&CPS Europe)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116384606","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The modular multilevel inverter is designed to limit the earth fault current following a preset current reference. The topology, structure, and functionality of the modular multilevel inverter are introduced. The inverter is designed to be sourced by charging capacitors from the grid itself. The modular multilevel inverter acts as an adjustable impedance to decrease the earth fault current passing in the grid down to safe levels. The control system of the inverter is designed to achieve the desired impedance needed to reduce the earth fault current to predetermined values, which do not cause any damage to the grid or its protection components, but sufficient to activate the protection system. Besides, the modular multilevel inverter does not need very high voltage rating devices, as the maximum voltage rating of each switch does not exceed 650 V. Such a modular multilevel inverter has a low Total Harmonic Distortion in the grid's voltages, even with low values of the passive components of the coupling filter. Moreover, with the proposed system, the grid can continue supplying the load with the needed power even during the ground fault. Simulations are carried out using MatLab/Simulink platform and various results demonstrate the ability of the proposed system in controlling the ground fault current.","PeriodicalId":215332,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering and 2020 IEEE Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Europe (EEEIC / I&CPS Europe)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122165028","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the study is to investigate on some differences that could arise between the two environments and to explore when such differences could become meaningful, in particular for the analysis of microgrids. The system under study is a medium voltage microgrid coupled to an external network and containing stationary and rotating loads and a battery energy storage system. The considered case studies are: i) a step load change in order to compare the responses in both grid-following and grid-forming control modes for the battery energy storage system; ii) voltage and frequency step changes to compare two types of loads, namely exponential load and induction motor and iii) the islanding transition of the microgrid.","PeriodicalId":215332,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering and 2020 IEEE Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Europe (EEEIC / I&CPS Europe)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128714358","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the usage of petroleum-based mineral oil derived from the nonrenewable energy source has affected the environment for its non-biodegradability property. As a result, researchers focused their interest on biodegradable and renewable alternatives. Due to several advantages, vegetable oil has been considered as a substitute. Coconut oil, Palm fatty acid ester, and sunflower oil, etc. are considered as an alternative to replace mineral oil as transformer insulating liquid. In this paper, different measurable properties of transformer oil and the prospect of natural as well as synthetic ester oil as an alternative of mineral transformer oil have been discussed.","PeriodicalId":215332,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering and 2020 IEEE Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Europe (EEEIC / I&CPS Europe)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129251097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Different non-destructive methods are studied to authenticate documents, to analyse inks and to establish their identity. In this paper, we propose to combine different methods to characterization various ink properties: Fourier Transform InfraRed and Raman spectroscopy for chemical composition, with Atomic Force Microscopy and numerical microscopy for surface morphology.
