It is adapted to a temperature range between 15 and 30°C. Outside this range, the effect of lower or higher temperatures reduces fruit set, while night temperatures of 5 to 7°C stop growth. Additionally, low temperatures hinder production, causing flowers to fall or increasing the fruit development cycle, up to 220 days. When estimating the cardinal temperatures of development, the minimum threshold temperature was 10.9°C, the optimum temperature was 17.3°C, and the maximum threshold temperature was 51.2°C. The guava tree adapts well to altitudes between 0 and 2,000 m a.s.l. in Colombia; however, there is a high genotype×environment interaction for production and quality characteristics in fruits with respect to the orchard elevation. Radiation >2,000 µmol photons m-2 s-1 decreased the fruit ascorbic acid content. An important ecophysiological factor in guava is water, and crops require between 1,000 to 2,000 mm year-1. It withstands waterlogging for several days, but excess precipitation and atmospheric humidity decrease fruit quality considerably. However, this tree is classified as moderately drought-tolerant to stress from water deficits, affecting flowering and fruit set. It is also moderately tolerant to salinity, depending on the variety, supporting electrical conductivities up to 1.5-1.8 dS m-1. Generally, guava can be cultivated in a wide range of tropical and subtropical areas, where it is preferred because of its high nutritional and medicinal contents and its aptitude for transport and handling.","PeriodicalId":21384,"journal":{"name":"Revista Colombiana de Ciencias Hortícolas","volume":"36 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74088622","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ripening stage affects fruit quality and post-harvest properties. Fruits with 65% yellow epidermis present chemical characteristics that meet industrial standards, facilitating harvest estimations and loss avoidance. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the post-harvest properties of passion fruit species (genotypes of the yellow passion fruit and sweet passion fruit, and yellow passion fruit cultivar FB 200) during ripening. The fruits were evaluated by the color of the epidermis and the chemical characteristics of the pulp (titratable acidity, vitamin C, carotenoids, soluble solids content, and ratio). This experiment was conducted with a completely randomized design and a split-plot arrangement, where the plots were the species and the subplots were the evaluation periods (50, 58, 66, 74 and 82 days after anthesis), with four replications and 10 fruits per plot. The yellow passion fruit genotype and cultivar, harvested at 82 days after anthesis, presented desirable characteristics for the juice industry and for fresh consumption. The sweet passion fruit had a higher soluble solids content and titratable acidity ratio because of its high content of soluble solids and low acidity, which translate to a better fruit flavor.","PeriodicalId":21384,"journal":{"name":"Revista Colombiana de Ciencias Hortícolas","volume":"70 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77397362","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The productive conditions of the Riego del Alto Chicamocha (Boyaca) district are a regional and national benchmark for this market. The objective of this research was to evaluate four irrigation regimes in terms of production and irrigation water efficiency in bulb onion crops. This trial was in the municipality of Nobsa, village of Dicho (Boyaca). A completely randomized design with four treatments was used: irrigation regime with 150% evapotranspiration (Evt); moisture-based irrigation regime, detected with soil moisture sensors; irrigation regime with 100% Evt; irrigation regime with 60% Evt, along with four repetitions. Starting three weeks after transplant and for 11 weeks (77 days), the polar diameter (cm), equatorial diameter (cm), root length (cm), leaf length (cm), SPAD units, stomatal conductance and irrigation water use efficiency were determined. The irrigation regime with 100% Evt had the best performance in terms of the polar and equatorial diameters and the root and leaf lengths, which were reflected in the fresh weight at harvest. The irrigation regime with soil moisture values obtained from remote sensors, with lower amounts of applied water, had better values for the transformation of water to fresh mass, with 13.64 kg mm-1.","PeriodicalId":21384,"journal":{"name":"Revista Colombiana de Ciencias Hortícolas","volume":"8 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90789844","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The design was completely randomized with a 2×3 factorial scheme using two commercial substrates (Carolina®, Bioplant®) and three organic sources (control, vermicompost enriched with yoorin thermophosphate and poultry manure) for seedling production. Adding poultry manure to commercial substrates negatively affects precocity and emergence. Carolina® is a suitable substrate for cape gooseberry seedling production without supplements using organic sources. Bioplant® behaves more like an emergence conditioner, requiring supplementation with organic sources (preferably vermicompost). Seedlings that are suitable for transplant can be obtained at 47 days after sowing.","PeriodicalId":21384,"journal":{"name":"Revista Colombiana de Ciencias Hortícolas","volume":"40 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89627208","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, recommendations and information are scarce for yacon cultivation, mainly regarding the possible interferences of planting method and depth in the crop development and production. Therefore, the objective was to study the influence of the planting methods and depths on yacon tuberous roots development and production in high altitude conditions. The experiment was a randomized complete block design, with four replications, in a subdivided plots scheme. The plots consisted of three planting methods (groove, pit and ridge) and subplots characterized by four planting depths (5, 10, 15, and 20 cm). Evaluations were carried out from the sprouting process of the rhizophores to the yield of tuberous roots. The planting methods in a pit and ridge had lower seedling mortality rates (27.5 and 20.2% lowers than grooves) and higher yields of tuberous roots (31.2 and 21.4% higher than grooves). The planting depths of 5 and 10 cm of the rhizophores were shown to be the most suitable for yacon cultivation for the three planting methods.","PeriodicalId":21384,"journal":{"name":"Revista Colombiana de Ciencias Hortícolas","volume":"17 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89499886","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To contribute to the management of these diseases in the department of Cundinamarca, soils and foliar tissues were analyzed, as well as the symptoms of the diseases in 149 farms of producers in the municipalities of Chaguani, La Palma, La Vega, and Viota (Cundinamarca). A descriptive analysis of the chemical properties of soils and foliar concentration of nutrients was carried out; the Student-Welch t-test was applied (P<0.05); the distribution patterns of the diseases were represented cartographically. According to the results obtained, the sampled soils are not saline, they have extreme to strong acidity, low effective cation exchange capacity and low fertility; meanwhile plants show a deficit of elements such as nitrogen, phosphorus, sulfur, copper, zinc, and boron. Considering the total number of farms evaluated, the incidence of bacteriosis and moko disease was reported in 63 and 14% at the departmental level, respectively. A higher concentration of sulfur and zinc was observed in farm soils free of both diseases. Finally, plants reported as free of bacteriosis showed a higher concentration of potassium and lower concentrations of calcium and manganese; while plants reported as free of moko disease showed higher concentrations of nitrogen, sodium, and copper, and a lower concentration of calcium. The results obtained contribute to the planning of large-scale management strategies, in order to reduce the risk of dissemination of diseases of economic importance for plantain crop.","PeriodicalId":21384,"journal":{"name":"Revista Colombiana de Ciencias Hortícolas","volume":"47 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90362662","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

El procedimiento óptimo restringido de máxima verosimilitud/mejor predictor imparcial lineal (REML / BLUP) permite la estimación simultánea de parámetros genéticos y la predicción de valores genotípicos. Los predictores BLUP se presentan como una alternativa al estrechamiento de los valores sesgados. Se basa en las variaciones por genotipo para determinar su valor de respuesta como complemento al índice de selección (SI). El índice de selección (IS) ESIM (Eigenvalue Selection Index) permite seleccionar genotipos basados en dos o más variables o caracteres de selección siempre y cuando la matriz económica posea los valores adecuados para resaltar la variable respuesta deseada. Se evaluaron tres etapas de selección en un programa avanzado de mejoramiento de papa diploide, se obtuvieron los valores BLUP para las variables rendimiento y gravedad específica (GE), y a partir de ellos los parámetros genéticos y el IS. La ganancia genética para rendimiento correspondió a 1.228 kg/planta con una heredabilidad (H2)=0,82, mientras que la GA para GE fue 0,02 con una H2 = 0,935. El IS a partir de los valores BLUP seleccionó en las etapas finales tres nuevos cultivares (Criolla Dorada, Criolla Ocarina y Criolla Sua Pa) que fueron registradas ante el Instituto Colombiano Agropecuario (ICA). Aunque BLUE y BLUP están altamente correlacionadas, el análisis BLUP/ESIM da ventaja al predictor pues reduce las respuestas con efecto ambiental, seleccionando eficientemente genotipos con alto potencial varietal.","PeriodicalId":21384,"journal":{"name":"Revista Colombiana de Ciencias Hortícolas","volume":"17 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76832001","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this research was to develop an efficient method for vegetative propagation of P. latifolia by using cuttings as an aid to the selection and multiplication of interesting genotypes. In the first experiment, the cuttings were collected in vegetative and reproductive stages and treated with six plant growth regulators and distilled water. In the second experiment, the treatments consisted of cuttings from the apical, median, and basal branch segments. The treatment with the immersion of cuttings in 4,000 mg L-1 of IBA provided greater number and length of the roots, while high dilution of Calcarea phosphorica at 20CH produced longer branches. The cuttings of the middle and basal part of the branch were found to be more viable. It was achieved 79.17% of cuttings rooting using Calcarea phosphorica 20CH. The organoleptic and nutritional quality of fruits are due to maturity stage. Therefore, determining the period in which the fruits reach the physiological maturity is important, since it aids the planning of the harvest and the quality control of fruits. In this sense, the aim of this review is establish the ideal period for harvesting their fruits of pitaya (Hylocereus undatus), by determining of the physiological maturity point. For this species, the number of days from anthesis to the full development of the fruit has shown to be the most reliable variable to determine the moment of harvest. From this designation, it is possible to indicate the stage (physiological maturity) in which the fruits present characteristics favorable to the species, for example, color, soluble solids content, ratio, and others. It is known that the place of production and the edaphoclimatic conditions are able to interfere and cause variation in the period in which the fruits reach the physiological maturity. Some studies in Mexico confirmed that the physiological maturation of pitaya fruits occurred between 25 and 31 days after anthesis (DAA). Other researches, including in Brazil, confirmed that this point occurred from 28 to 32 DAA. Thus, from the scientific studies carried out and published in the literature, to avoid losing their commercial value of fruits, it is recommended to harvest this fruits of pitaya between 25 and 32 DAA.","PeriodicalId":21384,"journal":{"name":"Revista Colombiana de Ciencias Hortícolas","volume":"55 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84977935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
