We developed a Home Automated Telemanagement (HAT) system for patients with congestive heart failure (CHF) to provide support in following individualized treatment plans as well as to monitor symptoms, weight changes, and quality of life, while educating the patient on their disease. The system is designed to be placed in the patient's home and to communicate all patient data to a central server implementing real-time clinical decision support. The system questions the patient daily on their condition, monitors their weight, and provides the patient with instant feedback on their condition in the form of a 3-zone CHF action plan. Their medication regimen and suggested actions are determined by their care management team and integrated into the system, keeping a personalized approach to disease management while taking advantage of the technology available. The system is designed to be as simple as possible, making it usable by patients with no prior computer experience. This telemanagement system has been successfully designed and implemented to optimize the care of patients with congestive heart failure.","PeriodicalId":213702,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conference on eHealth, Telemedicine, and Social Medicine","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115069921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The operational wellness model is needed to determine a common reference enabling the evaluation of the visualization system. Existing definitions of wellness and wellness evaluation models have limitations and cannot be realized in software. The proposed model comprises the operational definition of wellness and the operational wellness evaluation model. The results generated by the operational wellness model will be used in the wellness visualization system. The model presents numerous advantages: it is extensible, computable, and can be rendered by a computer program.","PeriodicalId":213702,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conference on eHealth, Telemedicine, and Social Medicine","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132979969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Medical and healthcare research has been striving to find relationships between core body temperature at female genitals and certain health conditions, such as ovulation period. This paper presents a solution for intra-body temperature monitoring based on a new intra-body sensor, communication and desktop application tool. This new biosensor provides data collection that may be used to study the relation between temperature variations and women health conditions, such as, ovulation period (for both natural contraception and in vitro fertilization purposes) among others. The motivation for this work focuses on the creation of this e-Health solution that will fill the gap we realize in medical technology. The proposal was tested and validated by a medical team and it was concluded that this new biosensor performs perfectly.","PeriodicalId":213702,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conference on eHealth, Telemedicine, and Social Medicine","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132494993","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We have investigated the usability of knowledge management technologies in automating the delivery of medical information in Ix. In our developed solution the content of personal health records as well as the medicinal information entities is organized according to a specific ontology. As a result patients do not need to navigate on the Web to find evidence-based medical information. Instead the medicinal information or its links are automatically delivered to patients’ personal health records. Which information is delivered depends on the content of the personal health records, and thus the delivery can be automatically targeted.","PeriodicalId":213702,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conference on eHealth, Telemedicine, and Social Medicine","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132145731","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we present an evaluation of the user experience of a familiar telecare product called a ‘personal trigger’ that provides a means of summoning assistance when help is needed. It is supplied as part of a community alarm service and should be worn at all times for continuous protection. Our evaluation is based on a survey distributed to over 1,300 clients in Moray, North East Scotland with a 60% response rate. The main findings are: clients view the service extremely positively, but almost two-thirds have never used their personal trigger to summon help and less than 8% wear it at all times; over two-thirds of clients wear their personal trigger most or all of the time, predominantly because it makes them feel safer; almost one-third of clients wear their personal trigger only some of the time to not at all, mostly because it is too sensitive or they forget to put it on. The appearance of the personal trigger was found to be less significant, despite the large majority of respondents being women. However, there is a need for better design to make it more comfortable and enjoyable to wear. Over the coming years, many older people will have higher expectations of public services. Designers can make things that are attractive and work well, and should be included in teams that develop telecare technology.","PeriodicalId":213702,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conference on eHealth, Telemedicine, and Social Medicine","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132698269","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We use cost benefit analysis to allocate activities onto a value network. Traditional approaches use cost benefit analysis to build the business case in a much later phase of development. In the paper the business model engineering approach used to conceptualize the deployment of this telerehabilitation service is described, analyzed and evaluated. We demonstrate that the business model engineering approach leads to critical deployment insights that would otherwise be unknown or learned at a much later phase of the development process.","PeriodicalId":213702,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conference on eHealth, Telemedicine, and Social Medicine","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115257883","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to reform the business logic of these organizations from the traditional healthcare services towards more eHealth in their services, an implementation strategy is needed to guide this reformation. A currently popular approach to guide these reformations and to come to an eventual implementation is by the use of business models. This paper describes what business models are and what their potential for designing and implementing eHealth applications can be. Also, three recent methods of business modeling that aimed to create sustainable eHealth applications will be described as an example, followed by some potential complications and their corresponding challenges that can appear when working on a business model for innovative eHealth applications.","PeriodicalId":213702,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conference on eHealth, Telemedicine, and Social Medicine","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130707926","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the proliferation of mobile technologies, mobile health (mHealth) will play a vital role in the rapidly growing electronic health (eHealth) area. The form of transparency between the healthcare domains and patients is a need to compensate the lack of medical resources (e.g. Consultants, Specialists), especially in developing countries. This paper investigates the applicability of available mobile infrastructure and technologies in the health sector and proposes an effective m-Health model to suit the Sri Lankan setting.","PeriodicalId":213702,"journal":{"name":"2010 Second International Conference on eHealth, Telemedicine, and Social Medicine","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127586515","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
