Theoretically, both the compression and deduplication can trade the rich computing capacity for more available RAM space. This paper comprehensively evaluates the performance behaviour of memory compression and memory deduplication by using seven real memory traces. The experimental results give two implications: (1) Memory deduplication greatly outperforms memory block compression. (2) Fixed-size partition (FSP) achieves the best performance in contrast to Content-defined Chunking (CDC) and Sliding Block (SB). The optimal chunking size of FSP is equal to the size of a memory page. The analysis results in this paper should be able to provide useful insights for designing or implementing systems that require abundant memory resources to enhance the system performance.","PeriodicalId":213334,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Networking, Architecture and Storage","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132520042","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the existing researches merely use the methods of experimental measurement or rough estimation to investigate it. In order to accurately compute the delay and bandwidth on the nodes with network coding implemented, this paper proposes a novel method to quantify encoding delay and encoding bandwidth. Firstly, network coding is applied to design a new network. And then, the encoding procedure is systematically investigated on the source node, the intermediate node, and also the decoding procedure is systematically investigated at the destination node. And the method, which can be used to compute the node encoding delay and encoding bandwidth, is presented, Thus the method of computing total delay of network with network coding is derived. Finally, the experiments validate the correctness of this method.","PeriodicalId":213334,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Networking, Architecture and Storage","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132634493","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many mapping algorithms which aim at optimizing cost metrics(e.g. energy consumption) in the mapping procedure are proposed. Some of those algorithms consider satisfying performance metrics (e.g. latency) constraints. This paper analyses the mechanism leading to performance decreases and furthermore proposes a new approach SPC (satisfy processing capacity) to guarantee performance metrics for cost oriented application mapping algorithms. Using this approach in one of those algorithms, performance metrics constraints are well ensured and cost metrics are hardly affected. In fact, one random experiment shows that performance is enhanced at most 10% even if cost is reduced by 6%.","PeriodicalId":213334,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Networking, Architecture and Storage","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131306686","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present methods of execution migration for heterogeneous multi-core processor suffer in efficiency, cost, compatibility, or programmability. In this paper, we propose a HW/SW code sign migration method based on binary-instrumentation. Our method takes full advantage of the shared-ISA. It enhances the performance of heterogeneous chip multiprocessor with low HW/SW cost. And it's not required to modify source codes or compile system. The experiment results show that the efficiency of our method is 3.29 times of kernel simulation.","PeriodicalId":213334,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Networking, Architecture and Storage","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123924906","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After study the essential aspects of multi-channel video systems, including channel switching, peer churn, and channel popularity, we develop a new user behavior oriented and content oriented pre-buffer mechanism to improve the user experience in live streaming borrowing the idea of user behavior targeting. This new mechanism uses the user behavior records to make a prediction of user's viewing. It can get a pre-buffer succeed ratio about 40% on average, and make the channel switch delay much lower.","PeriodicalId":213334,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Networking, Architecture and Storage","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124653055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If the multicast sources and receivers are in different domains, these trees will produce a great number of multicast states in the backbone, resulting in poor scalability. Therefore, we propose a one Wide-Sense Circuit Tree per Traffic Class based inter-domain multicast (WSCT-TC), in which a Wide-Sense Circuit Tree (WSCT) is established for a class of multicast traffic. The WSCT is established in the backbone, along which multicast packets are forwarded by label switching. The spec of WSCT can be reconfigured according to the QoS (Quality of Service) requirement of multicast applications, to provide preferable QoS. Simulating experiment shows that WSCT-TC behaves better scalability.","PeriodicalId":213334,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Networking, Architecture and Storage","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122322666","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This has been achieved using direct communication, adaptive transmission power adaptation and intelligent scheduling. The key capabilities of PoRAP make it suitable for environmental and habitat monitoring systems. Several experiments were designed and implemented using TinyOS components located at base station and sources. A set of experimentation was set up to determine power adaptation, achieved reliability and energy conservation. From measuring the Received Signal Strength Indicator, the Packet Reception Rate was estimated. Timing relationships were established to predict delays and to determine the required slot size for a schedule based protocol. Statistical analysis of the derived measurements demonstrated significant communication ranges for both indoor and outdoor environments. Further, by adapting the power, the protocol was able to maintain network performance in an optimal region.","PeriodicalId":213334,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Networking, Architecture and Storage","volume":"119 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122038922","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the analysis on the basic and essential characters of botnet, this paper deals with the botnet in two aspects: formal definition and general framework, covering various types of botnets overall. Through the formal definition and the general framework, the essential components of the botnet (i.e. botmaster, Command and Control mechanism, and bots) are described in detail and the features of the vital Command and Control (C&C) mechanism are augmented. The formal definition for botnet, to the best of our knowledge, is first proposed and the general framework, analyzed in some case studies, is not only helpful to interpret the existing botnets in the real world, but also beneficial to the implement of the potential botnets in the future.","PeriodicalId":213334,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Networking, Architecture and Storage","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122188411","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The multi-objective problem is simplified by employing average valued inequality and positional constraints. The improved genetic algorithm with local heuristic method and elitism strategy is developed to solve the problem. The simulation results show that performance gains in all aspects can be achieved by the proposed model and algorithm compared to the existing algorithms.","PeriodicalId":213334,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Networking, Architecture and Storage","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129863023","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we analyze the relationship between users' clicking behaviors and the category of the news story to model user's interests by mining web log data of an adaptive news system. We train a Memory-based User Profile (MUP), which imitates human being's learning, remembering and forgetting mechanisms, to predict users' potential interests dynamically. We mainly focus on experimental analysis to refine the MUP scheme. Firstly, we materialize the meanings of all parameters of MUP by important factors (i.e., absorbing factor, forgetting factor, timescale and learning strength) in human being's learning and forgetting process. Secondly, we demonstrate how to determine the values of parameters for different users to reflect their distinct learning and forgetting abilities. Thirdly, we derive a threshold from MUP's recursion formula, which can be used to simply distinguish long-term and short-term interests. Our evaluations are carried out on IdoIcan's web log data, results show MUP can model user's profile effectively.","PeriodicalId":213334,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Networking, Architecture and Storage","volume":"226 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115986126","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
