First, he comments as a concerned husband and father and then also as a physician. They share their exhaustion and frustration at being unable to find a solution for their wife’s intractable migraine pain. The author shares the despair they live as their wife is perceived as a drug seeker whose pain is in her mind because the experts have failed to pinpoint a tangible cause. The author invites you to join this family on their quest for relief and urge you to remember that for all of us faced with conditions medicine can’t fix the landmarks are painstakingly similar. They urge us to look and help without judging. In this article, in response to a published doctor-as-patient narrative, the author enquires into the possible reason for such empathy-in-hindsight. The objectified and structured medical education system which puts little emphasis on soft skills, a rapidly evolving technological-diagnostic revolution that is distancing the patient from the doctor and lacunae in development of communication skills in doctors come up as probable reasons for this. Ovarian malignancy in this age group is also infrequent and if occurs, is usually of germ cell type. If a patient presents with both lung and ovarian mass, the initial impression is the metastasis from one organ to the other. Chest X-ray, ultrasonogram, whole abdomen, CT scan of thorax and abdomen, bronchoscopic biopsy of lung mass and excision biopsy of ovarian mass are all needed to accurately diagnose condition. Therapy is also challenging for such patients. After accurate diagnosis for both the organs, surgery, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy should be considered after individualization of the case. Squamous cell carcinoma lung in advanced stage associated with early stage ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma has not been described in literature. Even rarer is the gravid uterus getting incarcerated in the hernia sac. The authors present an interesting obstetric challenge wherein a 30 year old pregnant lady reported to their antenatal clinic with an unusual bulge in the lower abdomen at the 7th month of pregnancy. This was found to be an incarcerated gravid uterus. It was further complicated by the presence of a trophic ulcer on the skin overlying the uterus. Very few such cases have been reported in literature and each one is a study in itself. The authors would like to share their experience in successfully managing the condition with the assistance of information from the internet and colleagues from across the globe. Use of learning objectives (LOs) in alignment with assessment ensures competency in the must know areas. In this paper the authors discuss the use of LOs in the enhancement of teaching-learning process. It is organized into seven sections that deal with the advantages, potential disadvantages, and strategies to overcome the problems with LOs as a tool. In particular, the philosophical and technical objections to the use of LOs are dealt with in detail by appropriate examples. They discuss the link between LOs and Bloom’s taxonomy of learning, Miller’s pyramid, and the need to make LOs developmental and congruent with assessment. The methodology for determining appropriate LOs is discussed in detail. Lastly the ABCD, Mager’s and Kern’s methods of writing objectives and limitations of each are discussed. Reducing the burden and impact of diabetes mellitus in India is a major priority among the healthcare system. Diabetes educators, through DPP models, have shown to reduce the risk of developing diabetes among pre-diabetics through lifestyle changes. Among diabetics, DSME is seen as an essential intervention and as a cornerstone of diabetes care. The students are divided into small groups and case scenarios, role-plays, paintings, and activities are used to explore MH. The module for the fourth batch of students was conducted from December 2011 to March 2012. In this article the authors provide a brief overview of the MH module, Sparshanam and the learning objectives of different sessions. They provide transcripts of some of the role plays done during the module.
