MmWave massive MIMO will differ from the conventional massive MIMO, due to the differences in propagation and hardware constraints. This paper proposes a stochastic geometry framework for evaluating the performance in large-scale mmWave massive MIMO networks. Based on the system model, analytical expressions are provided for the asymptotic signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) distributions in both uplink and downlink, when the number of base station antennas goes to infinity. Numerical results indicate a fast convergence in the SINR distribution to its asymptotic equivalence in dense mmWave networks. A comparison with conventional massive MIMO shows that mmWave massive MIMO achieves a higher cell throughput with sufficiently dense deployments.","PeriodicalId":211324,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 16th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121585912","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The CAP can either process the received tasks from the mobile user or offload them to the cloud, providing additional computation capability over traditional mobile cloud computing systems. We aim to optimize the offloading decision of the user to minimize the overall cost of energy, computation, and delay. It is shown that the problem can be formulated as a non-convex quadratically constrained quadratic program, which is NP-hard in general. We propose an efficient offloading decision algorithm by semidefinite relaxation and a novel randomization mapping method. Our simulation results show that the proposed algorithm gives nearly optimal performance with only a small number of randomization iterations, and adding CAPs to the traditional dichotomy of mobile devices and remote cloud servers can drastically improve mobile cloud computing performance.","PeriodicalId":211324,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 16th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"266 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115206847","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The solution is constructed using multi-coding such that the transmitter interlaces space-time encoded blocks of different codewords belonging to potentially variable-rate codebooks in each coherence interval. The receiver demultiplexes the interlaced codewords to perform sequential decoding along with a progressive refinement of the channel estimation using virtual pilot expansion such that the correctly decoded packets are used as pilots for channel estimation for next packets. We develop achievable rate results for Alamouti code over block fading channels and verify that the theoretical gain is attainable using a rate-matched LTE Turbo code.","PeriodicalId":211324,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 16th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128957058","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The problem consists of finding the minimum rate (or load) to deliver all users' requested messages from the sources and/or caches in the network. In particular, the capacity of two network models, shared link caching networks and device-to-device caching networks, is relatively well understood. To advance the understanding of the capacity of more general caching networks, in this paper, we study a class of networks of increasing practical interest, namely, the combination caching networks. These networks are formed by a single source connected to n = (rk) user nodes through a layer of k relay nodes, such that each user node is connected to a unique subset of r relay nodes, and caching takes place at the user nodes only. In this setting, particularly useful to model heterogeneous wireless and wireline networks, we show that, in most parameter regimes, by using a concatenated coded multicasting - combination network coding (CM-CNC) scheme, the achievable maximum link load is inversely proportional to the per-user storage capacity M and to the degree of each user r. In addition, we provide an information theoretic converse and show that the gap between achievability and converse bounds is within a logarithmic factor of the system parameters in most regimes of practical interest.","PeriodicalId":211324,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 16th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124610220","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose an analytical framework to derive the delay performance of HCN in terms of local delay, by modeling the locations of base stations (BSs) in HCN as superimposed of independent Poisson point processes. In the analysis, the BS activity and temporal correlation of transmissions are taken into consideration, both of which have significant effect on network performance. The effect of mobility, BS density, and association bias factor is investigated through numerical results, which shows that network performance derived ignoring the temporal correlation of transmissions is optimistic.","PeriodicalId":211324,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 16th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125998553","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sufficient condition for lossless communication with arbitrary code rate is obtained by assuming separate source and channel coding, which indicates the two rate regions specified by the Slepian-Wolf theorem and the MAC capacity region intersect. An upper bound of the outage probability is derived based on the sufficient condition. Asymptotic property shows the second order diversity gain can be achieved only when the tow sources are fully correlated. Numerical results demonstrate the accuracy of the derived upper bound. The ε-outage achievable rate, which is the largest rate of transmission such that the outage probability is smaller than a predefined ε value, is also analyzed. It is found the ε-outage achievable rate becomes lager with higher transmit power and/or stronger source correlation.","PeriodicalId":211324,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 16th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128042511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The mapping of channel state information to modulation and coding schemes is complemented by a margin which is obtained as the result of a stochastic gradient descent scheme which uses the decoding history reported by the receiver. While full-duplex techniques are gaining interest in terrestrial communications, thanks to the trend of short-distance and low-power transmissions, their application to satellite communications has drawn little attention. Motivated by this, the paper explores the use of the full-duplex relaying operation on-board the satellite in a DVB-S2 compliant network. Self-interference, whose management is the key component of a full-duplex communication, is the focus of study in this paper. Modelling the effects of self-interference and power amplifier nonlinearities on the quality of the received signal in undertaken. Subsequently, closed-form expressions for the various interference components are derived. The numerical evaluations of derived expressions rely on realistic link budgets and indicate substantial gains in spectral efficiency when self-interference can be well calibrated and measured. This confirms that the satellite full-duplex communications could be a promising solution for the efficient use of satellite spectrum, at least from a technical point of view.","PeriodicalId":211324,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 16th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123643511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The correlation of the load profile with a user's private activities leaves open the possibility of inference attacks. Using a rechargeable battery, the user can partially obscure its load profile and provide some protection to the private information using various strategies for charging and discharging the battery (battery management policies). Using mutual information as the privacy metric, we study optimal battery management policies for discrete alphabets. We show that the problem can be formulated as a Markov Decision Process, identify the associated state and action space, and using this framework characterize the optimal policy for the binary alphabet case.","PeriodicalId":211324,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 16th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128763353","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We consider a WANET which uses constant power for all transmissions and adapts the pure ALOHA as the channel access protocol. The locations of nodes are modeled by a homogeneous space time Poisson point process with Rayleigh fading. The paper quantifies the rate density and the dynamic variations of packet transmission time by deriving an upper bound on the CCDF of the packet transmission time. The rate density of rateless codes is compared to two benchmarks, the ergodic rate density (ERD) and the rate density of fixed rate codes. The considered rateless coding scheme is attractive, as it does not require time diversity, and each packet is transmitted within a single coherence time. Yet the derived bound shows that the rate density of rateless codes can be quite close to the ergodic rate density. Thus, the presented network has near ERD performance while maintaining shorter delays. We also demonstrate that rateless codes achieve a higher rate density than fixed rate codes.","PeriodicalId":211324,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 16th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121988599","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
