In this paper, by removing these optimistic assumptions, a novel two-path successive relaying scheme that benefits from relay selection and distributed space-time block coding (STBC), and transfers the data from the source to the destination via relays in a reliable fashion is proposed. The proposed scheme can achieve full diversity without the requirement of perfect decoding at relays since not only the destination but also the relays benefit from distributed STBC and relay selection. As the target STBC, coordinate interleaved orthogonal design (CIOD) for two transmit antennas is considered. The average symbol error probability of the proposed scheme is derived and its error performance is compared with reference systems.","PeriodicalId":210993,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 24th Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor, and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131936089","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The comparison is made on the basis of both overhead requirements and packet-error-rate (PER) performance. We also propose a hybrid feedback scheme that combines the explicit and implicit feedback methods thus benefiting from more frequent calibration without incurring extra overhead.","PeriodicalId":210993,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 24th Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor, and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114298210","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We analyze results from one of the densest central areas in our campaign from the perspective of spectrum measurements at a very exposed location at the roof of a high building. We present the main results of this measurement campaign in terms of spectrum utilization, powers received, and evolution of the activity among different days. The results presented in this paper here are very close to an upper bound of what one might expect to find in any given radio environment in terms of utilization and received power measurements. In addition to producing valuable measurement data on its own, special attention was given on acquiring comparable datasets with previous measurements campaigns we have conducted to allow direct comparisons with other European cities we have studied. In particular, we show a detailed comparison between the downtown London results against measurements carried out in other cities, quantifying the significantly higher levels of spectrum occupancy in London compared to other locations.","PeriodicalId":210993,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 24th Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor, and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"640 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114862209","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the network, there is a high density of self-backhauling relay nodes that simultaneously act as access points towards the users, in addition to few nodes with wired backhaul. The access is framed and synchronized along the multi-hop flow, and the nodes apply time division duplexing. Interference cancelation as well as power optimization is performed within the multihop route. Simulations are carried out in a local area network consisting of multiple multi-floor buildings. The propagation channel is modelled using static pathloss, log-normal distributed random variable, or static pathloss with Rayleigh fading. The simulation results indicate that full-duplex relaying improves the network performance over half-duplex relaying, if self-interference channel attenuation is kept over 80 dB. The means of achieving tolerable self-interference levels in full-duplexing relays via physical design of the relay, and analog and digital interference cancellation are discussed.","PeriodicalId":210993,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 24th Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor, and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124845304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It combines SM-STBC with beamforming under high spatial correlated channel, and has the advantages of the three techniques. The proposed scheme utilizes beamforming weights to build uncorrelated virtual channels based on uplink direction of arrival (DOA) estimation, and we calculate weights with the help of the water-filling power allocation. The Butler fixed beamforming network is deployed to receive parallel data streams due to its ability to form orthogonal beams. We also propose a matching algorithm linking each data stream to corresponding receive beam, and give the order of successive interference cancellation detection. So the system can transmit parallel data streams as well as providing beamforming and diversity gain. Simulation results show the proposed scheme has a better performance than the benchmark systems under the same spectrum efficiency, and it is suitable for the rich scattering environment.","PeriodicalId":210993,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 24th Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor, and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"257 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122135348","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In VANETs, due to the frequent topology changes, traditional ad hoc routing protocols incur a high overhead for the route maintenance. In this paper, we propose a new approach to route data messages in VANETs. The proposed protocol uses dynamically generated backbone vehicles to forward data messages. The protocol generates the backbone by using only hello messages. The protocol selects the backbone vehicles by considering vehicle movement dynamics and link quality between vehicles. As a result, the selected backbone vehicles generate a reliably connected network. By using packet forwarding with the backbone nodes, the proposed protocol can reduce the message overhead and MAC layer contention time at each node while maintaining a high packet delivery ratio. We show the effectiveness of the proposed protocol with both theoretical analysis and computer simulations.","PeriodicalId":210993,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 24th Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor, and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130128290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two methods for automatic OLPC optimization are proposed, motivated and compared against manual approach. It is found that the OLPC parameters at the pico-layer can be computed as a function of the OLPC parameters at the macro-layer, taking the load at the different cells into account. It is shown that using such a methods results in good overall system level performance. We contribute with in-depth analysis of dependencies between OLPC parameters, cells load, throughput performance and other metrics used to describe network operation on system level.","PeriodicalId":210993,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 24th Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor, and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124647764","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The relationship between the choice of base stations (when their ranking and selection is based on SINR) and inter-cell interference is examined. It is observed that lower SINR choices result in higher interference in the network and vice versa. Based on the observed relationship, the capability of the proposed scheme to mitigate inter-cell interference and achieve energy saving is evaluated with different SINR based choice restriction policies. The energy efficiency and quality of service (QoS) performance of the proposed scheme is compared with schemes without interference awareness features. The results show that the proposed scheme can achieve up to 65% energy savings at low offered traffic and can also provide significantly higher QoS over a wide range of traffic loads than the schemes without interference awareness.","PeriodicalId":210993,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 24th Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor, and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115961990","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In CS/CB, a user usually needs to feed back channel state information (CSI) to its serving cell as the first step. However, due to the lack of knowledge regarding neighboring coordinated cells, e.g., the precoding matrix, the reported CQI is not accurate and must be updated before it can be applied. In the proposed methods, we assume that for each data stream the user receiver is tuned to match each incoming source of interference from the coordinated cell, or the precoder of the coordinated cell matches the row space of the channel from the coordinated cell to the user as much as possible. Two lower-bounds of the real CQI in actual transmission are derived and adopted. Both theoretical analysis and simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed methods.","PeriodicalId":210993,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 24th Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor, and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124140790","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the challenging tasks in CR networks is to agree on a common control channel to advertise the free channel list (FCL) amongst the participating CR nodes for co-operative communication. In this paper, a CR MAC protocol for searching, scanning, and accessing the control channel is proposed. The protocol consists of two levels of selection: rapid channel accessing and reliable channel accessing. In rapid channel accessing, nodes quickly and efficiently converge to a newly found control channel. In reliable channel accessing, switching to the backup control channel is performed whenever there is a PU claim on licensed channel. Furthermore, our reliable channel accessing allows CR nodes to access more than one control channel simultaneously. We evaluate the performance of the proposed approach through simulation modelling. The results show that our protocol can achieve efficient channel access time and fairness.","PeriodicalId":210993,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 24th Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor, and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"142 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124356341","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
